Have they focussed on skills rather than "inside, competitive beasts" of late and is the the future for us?

Was going to be my question as well. Jason how is it determined who is on the list, is it a combo of recruitment staff and coaches ie these are the best players in the draft. Coaches then say these are the attributes we want in our team or are missing so who fits that criteria? And who wins ie Jackson last year wasn’t a need as such but is talent overrides the coaches objections?

I was listening to a bloke speaking the other day and he said he consumes all of his novels via audio books as he has some learning difficulties and while he can read just fine and is a very smart unit, words on a page can be difficult for him and it takes him two to three times as long to read a book compared to being able to hear it. Opened my eyes a bit.

How much input do you have outside of Demonland, it looks like a fertile ground for people who know all of the best draftees and a massive $$$ saver after covid.

I was listening to a podcast on a different sport, just happened to be about drafting and holds true for all sports. ”So what is the science or art about trading up or down for a player you want?” ”Its a little bit of art and a lot of knowledge, I know 95% of the recruiting staff from every other team, if I have a player I like I’ll go to a number of games to watch him (sometimes 20+ games) and also to watch who else is watching him. I’ll see xx club or xx clubs in attendance. We’ll also the ask him who has shown the most interest.. then with that info we get a bead on which clubs are keen. We then look at the draft order and his potential drafting position and make a call from there. If we believe we can stay put, move up or move down. One thing we can’t control is any info that comes from his network (agent or family).”

Yea the hundreds of hours they are paid to work on this and they may have lost the paper with Cook and Caroll written on it on the way to the draft.

Only over the last 4/5 years, I remember him saying at a partner presentation his calls wouldn’t be answered by player agents for a number of years before we drafting ok. I remember the David Rodan and Cam Pedersen years.

Thank you Josh Mahoney! Thank you for your service to the might Melbourne Football Club. You’ve served us for a long time and really progressed your career in that time, especially considering the basket case we were during a lot of that time. Time will tell if you helped lay the ground work and build the walls to the premiership house but I think you’ve done a good job and respect the time you’ve put in to help make us great again. ps I hope you’re bloody terrible at ESS and they struggle for years to come, all the best.
