  1. I hope the bold yellow stripe on the training balls does the trick in 2021!
  2. Ahh! A fire sale then?
  3. My problem is that I still remember the player numbers from the 1950s and 1960s like they were still playing, but I struggle with the current team. I mentioned this to Mrs Deeoldfart one day last season, and she comforted me by saying "that's quite understandable dear, the game is so much faster these days".
  4. I'll never forget Broady; I'll never forget his memorial game. I doubt that there was a dry Melbourne eye during the opening ceremony at the packed MCG. Melbourne could never have been beaten that night. Broady's spirit was always with us; I'll never forget the great work that our Club / players did to rebuild a school in the Phi Phi Islands in Broady's memory.
  5. ....... and a huge thank you to Andy, the Mods and everyone else involved in providing us Demon 'tragics' with far and away the best fan site in the AFL. You deserve a premiership for your efforts.
  6. Looks like a great 'package'. Watching him develop in Melbourne colors will be a treat.
  7. I agree D3, and we now have both fitness and development gurus to bring them along.
  8. I agree o_d , but I feel certain that Goodwin would have received that message loud and clear from within the four walls of the MFC. If not, the review did not go far enough!
  9. Robbie was simply the best and fairest of his era. No Charlie makes a mockery of the system.
  10. I love it. This kid could be a 'game changer', and we already have a couple of those!
  11. Salo had a good, consistent year. He is good one-on-one, reads the play well, and has elite disposal, but I keep waiting for him to take his game to the next level. I reckon he has it in him, but I'm just not sure it will happen. Seventh in the 'Bluey' was about right imo. 7/10 from me.
  12. I love the part of this interview with Adem where he talks about the need for 'cohesion' in our midfield group: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/836826/ep5-the-off-season-adem-yze?videoId=836826&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1605673170001
  13. Now that news turned a crap day into something much better for me! LJ will make huge strides in the next couple of years. Why would he commit to a long term deal now? Much better to defer for a couple of years when his real worth will be known, and he will get paid accordingly.
  14. Every punter has their share of 'busts'. We took a punt on a long-shot and it failed to deliver. Well done Dees for giving Harley another shot in a field where he had previously excelled! It might have been a 'masterstroke' for all parties. Tough times ahead for Harley and his family, I'd imagine. Hope he manages to fight off his inner 'demons'.
  15. Overcame horrible adversity and a significant form slump in 2019, to finish top 10 in the Bluey. An outstanding effort in the circumstances. Well done Hibbo!
  16. I guess I'm ambivalent about Toby. I've seen the odd encouraging glimpse, but not enough to convince me that he has the 'wares' to make it. Like others, I find it mystifying that we didn't see more of him during the season. Hopefully he put the time to good use, and he 'blitzes' pre season 2021.
  17. I only ever knew BB, the very good footballer. After watching that vid, I now have a tiny insight into BB the person. What a well grounded young man he seems to be! He will influence our culture in a good way, I reckon.
  18. Given the risk of permanent brain damage, I very much doubt that Kade will play again. In the context of what appear to be ongoing health problems, and reduced list sizes in 2021, I hope that he will step away from the game, with an amicable settlement between his management and the MFC, in relation to the final year of his contract. A sad end to a promising career, but I trust and expect that the MFC, GCS and the AFLPA will look after his future welfare. ps. probably just me being over-sensitive, but I detest the belittling term 'steak knives' in relation to our players, especially in these circumstances.
  19. No doubt the pool of talent has been spread more thinly with the emergence of GCS and GWS in the last decade.
  20. Gee, not much love or sympathy for Collingwood being shown around here! Shameful!
  21. It's hard for a Dees fan, not to love Mahoney's work at this tome of year! We now have the center-pieces around which we can build a decent forward line.
  22. Pick Swap: Dees offload future picks to get more 2020 capital TRADE November 10, 2020 Melbourne receives a second-round pick (currently No.33) and a third-round pick (currently No.50)FROM: ADELAIDE CROWS Adelaide receives a future second-round selection and a future fourth-round selectionFROM: MELBOURNE
  23. "MELBOURNE is set to execute a pick swap with Adelaide which could help unlock a deal to land North Melbourne's Ben Brown. AFL.com.au understands the Crows will send a second-round pick (currently No.33) and a third-round pick (currently No.50) to the Demons in exchange for their future second-round and future fourth-round selections."
  24. I reckon Jay has some solid AFL attributes, but I'm not convinced that he's a natural defender. I think we hoped that he'd be our next Nev Jetta, but that's not his caper. I think he should spend the upcoming pre-season with the forwards group. If he's going to make it as a regular, I reckon that's where it will be. (5/10 for 2020)
  25. Like his brother, he didn't quite have what it takes at the top level. He had hit his peak, and was always going to be no more than an occasional a 'stop-gap' in our best 22.. Simply put, one of those 'depth' players who we had to delist if we aspire to bigger things. Thanks for your service Josh ..... the AFL is a tough business.
