That does not tell me what parts of my post you disagree with!

I'd like to see an end to excuses. 3 years of Roos. Halfway through Goodwin's second year. How long does it take to teach players to play hard nosed accountable footy. Like not wandering off in direction of a contest when you're tracking an opponent running into their forwardline. Like not realising that if you over commit to the contest you'll leave opponents in space free to receive from the contest and dispose of the ball under no pressure and when you try to release to a team mate he'll be about a metre way under the same pressure as you are. Like applying manic pressure like the trendsetting Tiges who won one of those Premiership things. How long do we have to wait?

Yeats, Grinter, Green, Yze, Bruce, and others et al

I believe Rod Grinter holds the prestigious position of Director Of Football at CBC Toorak. I am one for the best candidate not the best ex Dees candidate. -
What value is Lewis adding on field? He had a Saint hemmed in on the Members wing boundary line who must've pulled a Houdini move cause next minute Lewis had not moved and the Saint was running along the wing towards their forward 50. Every opponent knows Lewis can't catch them to tackle. That they can run away from him. That he won't run and carry because he knows he'll be run down. That he is a transplanted(pun intended) inside mid who is not great at spoiling. In short forwards across the league are hoping that he'll be their matchup. There is no onfield role for Jordan Lewis at AFL level in 2018. He's a 4 time premiership player who has played on a season too long and is now capable of not much more than guarding space.

Is Jeffy Garlett just trade bait now?

A forward line without a speedy crumber who can snag a goal and apply manic pressure ain't going to get it done, is not getting it done. -
Former firefighter Kane Cornes raised our kicking as an issue. Admittedly some of the examples he raised were for mine were about decision making. Ie Oliver, Jones, Brayshaw kicking long inside 50 straight to opponents. Cornes also identified Jack Watts as our best kick of last 10 years. Don't think he has seen Fritsch play!

Lyon used game footage to show the blinding obvious. We commit too many players to the contest leaving their opponents in acres of space waiting to receive the ball and we have no one in space to handball to. Our midfielders are simply not accountable to their opponents. Jones, Brayshaw, Oliver etc. And we're slow on the outside. Brayshaw as one example tracked an opponent through centre square but lost concentration, wandered towards contest on flank, letting the opponent run unchecked into their forward 50. Opponent got the ball in space 20 metres out. Jordan 'Major Tom' Lewis's renowned footy smarts don't extend to picking up a free opponent waltzing into out defensive 50 when he is the spare in defence. He is elite at guarding space I will admit. Goodwin needs to lay down the law. If you keep going to the contest when its not your role you play for Casey. If you don't apply manic pressure to opponents you play for Casey. If you're a one paced inside mid not part of centre square rotations you're not a winger so you play for Casey.

Who knew you cant play slow inside mids on the wing and off half back! I predict Goody will not see the need for outside run and carry but will instead bring in more slow inside mids!
-
Outs: Jordan Lewis, Dom Tyson, Hannan/Neal-Bullen, Petty Ins: Oskar Baker, Charles Spargo, Jeff Garlett, Keilty/Frost In 2018 you cannot play Jordan Lewis off half back or Dom Tyson on the wing. We need running players who can run and carry the ball in those positions. Lewis is too slow to play as a defender and Tyson is too slow to play on the wing. We are getting killed in the spread and this lack of speed is a factor. Lewis may still have his footy smarts but his legs just cant get him where he needs to be. He can't make it to the contest in time to win the ball, tackle or spoil and he does nor provide any rebound run n carry off half back. If Tyson is in the 22 then he is in the centre square. If he is not in the centre square then he is playing for Casey. Tough game for Petty to debut given speed which Saints were able to move ball through midfield. We are crying out for a crumbing forward who can out defensive pressure on. Hannan and Neal-Bullen have been ineffectual against better teams.

Which is a significant point of difference. We're stacked with one paced inside mids but we lack speed and outside run. Baker plays like a classic wingman. Must be a chance to come in next week though Goody may find another inside mid to promote!

Is Jeffy Garlett just trade bait now?

Did work more up the ground than I remember him doing at AFL level. Must be a chance to come in. Would improve our forward line pressure which is generally lacking. -

Might have been handy lurking in the 50 against Port. -
Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
demoniac replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't deny that Lewis has footy smarts but in 2018 AFL footy demands a minimum level of athleticism. Lewis does not reach that level. I can't see him matching up with either Butler or Caddy. Butler in particular would be way to nimble for Lewis. If he played on Caddy he'd have to be an accountable man on man defender rather than an inside mid transplanted to quarterback of the half back in twilight of career. -
Good luck Trenners!

The following challenge remains open! "The Tigers will name their team tonight. Try and find a Tigers forward Jordan Lewis can keep up with." -

The Tigers will name their team tonight. Try and find a Tigers forward Jordan Lewis can keep up with. He is a 4 time premiership player and a great of the Hawthorn Football Club but Lewis is too slow to play at AFL level in 2018. One of the footy shows showed footage of Lewis getting caught out as our deepest defender and having no chance of keeping pace with his opponent charging into their forward 50 as Port rebounded. His footy smarts are now best used as a development coach. Old Father Time catches up with all players. I can understand why he wants to keep playing, lets not forget that he rejected a 2 yr deal to move and we caved and added a year. I don't blame him for that but my expectation of Simon Goodwin is that he will pick the best 22 each week irrespective of reputation. If he keeps picking Lewis then he is not doing that. -
He got caught with the ball with his first possession which is a major weakness in his game. More generally if Tyson comes in it can only be for another one paced mid. The team as its been selected just does not match up to other top 8 teams in terms of run and carry.

Lewis has reached the stage where the best use of his footy IQ is off field. In every game he'll have to try and beat an opponent to the ball. How many Top 8 teams have forwards he can beat to the ball? -

And yes Lewis is cooked. If he does not want to retire immediately then he can mentor kids at Casey till end of this season, or end of season 2019 if he want s to play on. Treacle slow, goes to ground and kicking is unreliable. Top 8 teams just don't seem to play treacle slow half forwards in 2018 for some reason so he just will never have a match up. -

Weid is much more effective than Hogan close to goal. Jumps better when flat footed and actually puts 2 arms up in the air towards the ball. Also a more effective Gawn reliever than Harmes, Pederson, Smith. Weid at full forward and Hogan to roaming always on the move Centre Half Forward role. -
Petty can read the play and take an intercept mark. Frost just too prone too brain fades when he gets the ball. Would make a great rugby union forward. If the choice is between Vince and Lewis then Lewis is dropped. Treacle slow, goes to ground and his kicking has deteriorated. There just aint any forwards slow enough for Lewis to play on.

Outs: Lewis, Tyson, Neal-Bullen, Smith, Petracca Ins: Petty, Baker/Stretch, Spargo, Weidemann, Garlett We're carrying too many one paced inside mids so out go Lewis, Tyson and Neal-Bullen. Petty comes into play Lever role and provide support to O Mac. Baker/Stretch and Spargo come in to provide some much needed run. Petracca is out of form and has lost confidence in his kicking. Garlett gets his chance to use his pace both ways and kick goals. We're also going to focus on having players off the contest to be target for a handball out of a contest. This replaces our current tactic of having all our players gathered at the contest and releasing to each other but not releasing the pressure. And in a tactical innovation if the opposition are flooding out forward 50 we're actually going to try and draw them out by switching the ball rather than just repeatedly banging it long to the flood. Finally we thank Jordan Lewis for his service to the Melbourne Football Club, and recognise his outstanding career at Hawthorn. The club has advised Jordan that he will not be considered for senior selection going forward. We look forward to Jordan mentoring our developing players at Casey through to expiration of his contract at end of 2019 season.

Jesse Hogan is simply not competitive in the air when the ball comes in high and he is flat footed. At his best when on the move which makes in a Centre Half Forward for mine. Weidemann in for Pederson to play Full Forward and give Gawny a rest. Hogan to Centre Half Forward . Tommy Mac roaming the forward half.

How would you rate his defensive pressure and his rebound? Both fundamental for a medium defender in 2018.
