Marc Anthony's out of the question though which is sad because, in his time, he was a pretty tough dude.

SUMMER TIME AND THE DRAFTING'S EASY - PARTS 1, 2, 3 & 4
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I received an email form Stevo who wanted me to stress that he doesn't think Melbourne will select Jack Darling so I have added a sentence to convey that feeling. Pity really because he could have been a big hit with the MFC lady supporters on what I’ve heard. However, Jack fans should not despair. Stevo supplied me with the following list of names who might be available for those who appreciate that excellent name:- Jack Frost, Jack Gray, Jack Hutchins, Jack Mahony, Jack Redpath and Jack Stephens, a few Jacksons and for those interested in recycling you can have former Croweater Jarhan Jacky -
A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS - CHAPTER SEVEN
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well it was inevitable after that training accident with Brent Guerra just before the final round of the 2011 season. Strange thing was that it was exactly the same shoulder that ... ah, no. You'll find out about that one soon enough. -
Neither James McDonald nor Cameron Bruce played in the 2000 grand final anyway. Junior was recovering from a knee reconstruction and Cam was injured the week before and wasn't available to play.
-
Now that Cam Bruce's image has gone missing from the banner altogether, is it possible to move Aaron Davey closer to the rest of the players? The gap in the banner makes it look like Joffa Corfe's mouth!
-
Probably, and that's why I used the word "small". It could come into play with one of the latter picks or rookie selections when needs might come under consideration.
-
He's a professional footballer with a limited life span in the game. He did the right thing by himself and his family and nobody could ever begrudge him for that. From Melbourne's point of view, it has its policies in place and it stuck to its principles. Nothing wrong with that either. This was a case of an immovable object meeting an Irresistable force and it was in the best interests of both in those circumstances that they part ways. Win for both. End of story.
-
The departure of Cameron Bruce opens up a place on our lists which can be taken by a rookie. Because we will now have only one veteran on the primary list, the rules enable us to promote one rookie straight into the senior team without waiting for a LTI to happen. This will enable the club to sharpen its focus on rookie selections knowing that if it makes the right choice (and you can take mature age rookies these days) the player in question could go straight into the team from day one. Here's hoping that there's another Michael Barlow waiting in the wings.
-
This is certainly one of the issues that will continue to dominate Melbourne's draft talk for the next eleven days and beyond. It's touched on in my article on the draft Summertime and the Drafting's Easy and Cameron Bruce's defection will no doubt have some small impact on the debate as well.

A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS - CHAPTER SEVEN
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have to confess that I remember very little about him. After all, it happened so long ago . The one thing I do recall is that everyone in the stand was so polite, unlike the ruffians in the general admissions area who were mainly toothless Collingwood supporters with moustaches - and that was the women. It's good to see that modern day dentistry has brought so many advances to the world. By way of comparison, the Collingwood supporters at the 2014 grand final looked almost normal. And you won't believe this but Cameron Bruce, at his third AFL club, played in that game! -
You're welcome to have a crack but as the MFC said to Cameron Bruce, we can't give any assurances or positivity that it will definitely be accepted. Same applies with anyone else who wants to redesign the banner.
-
According to a report in the Sunday Sun, Bruce wanted "assurances and positivity" about his place in the side. Presumably, he didn't get them, so he's going elsewhere. Giving assurances of the type that he sought would have been stupidity on the part of the club. What he got was honesty and, in adopting that approach, there was an element of ruthlessness shown. I don't think any supporter or player would want it any other way.
-
I have to preface what I'm about to say with the comment that Cameron Bruce has acted quite within his rights to look after his interests in the twilight of his career. If he felt his opportunities or the commercial deal offered elsewhere were better then I can't argue with that at all. I also believe that on 2010 form, he would still have been an on field asset next year but don't believe it would have been appropriate to guarantee him a place in the team in 2011 or beyond. In the circumstances therefore, it was best that player and club both part ways and move on. On the question of leadership, I can't say that his departure from the scene is bad for the club. I think a young club needs to have strong, confident and decisive leadership - someone with a no nonsense tough approach. That's not how Cam Bruce came across to me. It just wasn't his nature and that's reflected in some measure in the reasons he gave for his departure. The good thing is that we have a number of young players who need to step into the breach and I'm confident we have the calibre of player at the club capable of doing so. Bruce's departure will only help bring this about sooner rather than later.

I have to admit in the first place I have only seen Luke Mitchell play on three occasions but FWIW, he has really been growing on me. Two of those games were for Calder Cannons in winning grand final teams and he excelled as a strong key forward kicking goals both times. What resonated with me about him were the words attributed to Micky Malhouse about how he was convinced about drafting the likes of Pendelbury, Thomas and Sidebottom. All three of them excelled in grand finals at TAC Cup Under 18 level and all three were valuable members of his premiership team this year. Malthouse maintains that the ability to perform at your top in a crunch game like a grand final is a good recommendation for a young player aspiring to be a consistently good player at the top level. Most Phantom Drafts don't have Mitchell going as early as 12 and I certainly haven't seen that much of the players but if we're really aiming for a KPF who plays the tall forward role differently to Watts and Jurrah, he could be our man.

2010 Player Review - # 10 Cale Morton
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cale Morton's Twitter today: Massive day today.. Weighed in at 90kg that's up 9kg from last season! -
Hi GHDB. You should know if you're his brother but I do vaguely recall someone with the surname playing for the club at around about that time. Could it have been Garth Honey? I'm sure Supermercado will soon find out.
-
I've been reading this thread and wondering whether people want us to draft Callum Sinclair or the person with the skills and talents attributed to him by posters on the Internet. I'm not sure if the two intersect perfectly. I saw him when Casey played Port Melbourne at Casey Fields during the season and didn't see enough in him to suggest he would become a regular KPP at the highest level or to warrant selection in the second round of the draft. It will be interesting to see how the respective club's recruiting people view him.
-
And long may he do so! I think the club should get the 7/11 company to sponsor the back of its jumpers this year because both the numbers "7" and "11" are now available for new recipients. They could have a big in store competition to determine who gets which jumper. Both have been worn by club Brownlow Medallists as has "30" which might also become available if we don't pick up Tom McNamara in the rookie draft.

Irish Eyes already smiling ...on MFC
Whispering_Jack replied to TonyMelb's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nothing is meaningless when national pride and Mick Malthouse's ego are at stake! -
Which raises the question why the AFL doesn't release the full results of its draft combine? They usually only release the top 10 results in each category and leave the rest to guesswork or inside information. They might not wish to divulge some of the poorer results from testing but why not the information about players' heights and weights?
-
Poor old Richard. Surely, he must have been related to Dick Wardill, the captain of Melbourne's very first VFL premiership team of 1900 who I met a long time ago in the events I describe here. In the event that I come across him again, I'll try to ascertain the connection
-
There's a few that I know in here and one of them has an interesting story. Brendan Rice was at the club in the early 1960's but had injury problems (knee) and never played in the seniors. He's overseas at the moment but on his return I'll get his full story - and it is interesting.

Supermercado, the creator of DemonWiki is looking for information about players were either listed by, signed to or made appearances with the Melbourne Football Club in an intra-club, practice, Under 19 or reserve game but did not appear in a senior VFL match from 1897 onwards. To help out, I'm creating three separate threads for Demonlanders to post any information they might have about the players on each list. This one's for players from Melbourne AFL:1990- present day Lee Anderson Cameron Aubrey Ryan Ayres Ivan Bartul Nathan Bassett Kane Batzloff Matthew Bell Adam Benjamin Micah Berry Mark Berts Matthew Blake Matt Bonadio Mark Bouw Daniel Breese Dean Brown Andrew Browne Niall Buckley Paul Butterworth Joel Campbell Jamie Cann Leigh Capsalis Damien Carroll John Carroll Dale Carson Daniel Clarke Bruce Cohen Travis Coote Paul Corrigan Michael Coutts Mitchell Craig Kevin Devine Benjamin Doherty Paul Dooley Mark Ducker Jason Dullard Andrew Eslick Brett Evans Bill Fafatoulis Anthony Ferraro Adam Fisher Paul Foot Eachan Fraser Glenn Freeborn Ricky Frost Clayton Gardiner Ashley Gehling Andre Gianfagna Nick Gill Heath Goodale Brian Goldberg Phillip Goldberg Keith Goonewardene George Gorozidis Anthony Graham Leigh Gray Tom Grehan Jordan Grigg Brad Hall Ricky Hartman Jason Harwood Tom Hayden Rhys Healey Michael Hobbes Glen Hoffman Paul Hogarth Darren Jarman Brett Jeffrey Stuart Johnstone Adam Jones Ben Judd Haydon Kilmartin Matthew Kluzek Anthony Lance Robert Lemon Thomas Marshall Mathew Mackay Mark Mackenzie Robert Makinson Danny McCarthy Tim McNeil Gary Merritt Travis Millar Luke Molan Tim Moreland Nik Morey David Morrison Glenn Muehllechner Damon Munt Stuart Nagle Shane Neaves Scott Nelson Heath Neville Paul Newman Christian O'Brien Shannon O'Brien Michael O'Neill Duncan O'Toole Robert Panozza Nick Perry Mark Peterson Damien Peverill Brad Pinches Ezra Poyas Michael Prentice Cameron Ramsay Ashley Reade Warren Reuhland Paul Ridley David Robbins Aaron Rogers Paul Rouvray John Ruecroft Claude Sampieri Nick Sebo Matthew Sexton Troy Shannon Tom Shelton Terry Siderellis Brad Smith Stephen Smith Jamie Solyom Luke Speers Anthony Stocker Guyan Stroud David Taylor Luke Taylor Scott Teal Simon Theodore Anthony Tohill Paul Van Der Meer Brendan Van Schaik Craig Walker Nicholas Walsh Nick White Glenn Wilkins Brent Williams Adam Williamson Scott Williamson Mark Winterton Robert Woodland Damien Yze Trent Zomer Brett Zorzi Active Players Sam Blease Jack Fitzpatrick Max Gawn Luke Tapscott
