  1. Welcome back Redleg. Judging by your avatar, you've timed your return to perfection . I think the countdown gig is yours if you want it but don't forget, we've only got pick 12 this year, not 1 and 2!
  2. Oh dear. I'm afraid CJ just shot himself in the foot. With that attitude I think even Vossy would say "pass".
  3. Imagine that - a fixture in Melbourne! Much better than the usual programme we get from the AFL.
  4. The funny thing is that while Johnson's physique is pretty unforgettable, the thing I remember most about him was that his eyes looked yellow. I don't know if that was the vision being beamed from Seoul, his normal eye colour or symptomatic of substance abuse but he was one scary looking dude (and a complete idiot as well).
  5. That's a tough one but a year earlier I reckon it would have been worth a crack at getting a declaration from the Supreme Court ruling the 15 metre penalty imposed against Jimmy by umpire Howlett invalid on the very valid legal ground that the decision sucked.
  6. That's an interesting point about his debut in a NAB Cup game being his best game to date. What was it that he had that day that he hasn't been able to reproduce? Confidence?
  7. Well put. Danny Hughes has done just about everything he possibly could to make it in the AFL but a succession of injuries cruelled his chances. I think he also had some limitations with his athleticism but managed to cover them with his strong marking and good awareness. In another era he might have made it but I think time has now probably run out for Danny.
  8. My only memory of the pre game from the 1988 grand final (in fact my only memory of that day) was watching the final of the mens 100m from the Seoul Olympic Games on the big screen at the G. To see Canada's Ben Johnson absolutely blow everybody's hero Carl Lewis off the track in what was for a very short period of time, a world record, was mind boggling. The game that followed was very forgettable and then came the Ben Johnson drugs furore with Lewis getting the gold medal and his world record back. It turned out to be a very bad week for sport.
  9. Shanghai surprise as Liam seals deal
  10. Surprised David Hale's not on the list as well
  11. I think that because lists were bigger in the old days and there were less restraints on players moving on and off lists, clubs were more likely to move players on who weren't performing. There used to be a flurry of activity every year before 30 June when clearances closed and players came on and off lists and were cleared at that time. I also remember the days when a kid would come off the street and get a practice match in an earlier game and if he was good enough, could get on the list and sometimes get a game on very few showings. They were the good old days!
  12. Boycotts are rarely effective and often hurt the people they were intended to help in the first place. This is a prime example.
  13. Oh well, I suppose we'll have to be content with memories like this one:
  14. Shanghai Dee: FINAL M 12 12 84 B 11 13 79. Goals Liam a lot. Too excited to count. On ground with team. Demon heaven. Best LJ Sylvia Dunn. In the excitement forgot. Last kick of the game after a great pack mark. Too much.
  15. From Wise Dees stormed home with wind and won by 5 points. Jurrah 5 goals, Sylvia dominant. Will post more later.
  16. Never in doubt. Thanks to Shanghai Dee and Wise. And here we have the first exclusive picture of the game thanks to Shanghai TV, the leading edge in big screen technology:-
  17. Shanghai Dee: Chasing tail. Typical lifeless look. Trying hard but no system evident. Just individual efforts. No prominent players. No flash chunk rick and no ball carriers. Too many skill errors and slow reactions. Into last and Jake kicks running goal and lj set up magic goal. Two down.
  18. Indeed it is 3/4 time as Shanghai Dee reports. We've been playing catch up football without ever actually catching up.
  19. Shanghai Dee reports: It's half time and Brisbane holds on to a slender lead. M 4 7 31 B 5 8 38. Goals Jurrah Jamar 2. Better more open con purpose. Still conceding too many easy goals through turnovers. Chinese little league on now. Have to go scout the talent. Sh dee.
  20. Wise reports a free to Jamar for in the back. He hands off to Morton who goals to narrow the Lions' lead to just 6 points. He's heading back to the studio and it's half time! Brisbane 5.8.38 Melbourne 4.7.31
  21. Aussie starring in the midfield? Russian goals? Wise reports that Sylvia's playing well. Question marks above because most players on both teams look like Humphrey B. Bear!
  22. Early in second and we trail by 7 points after Jurrah's goal.
  23. Seems we're already a couple of players short. Daniel Rich goals for Brisbane, then another and they lead at quarter time - 3.5.23 to 1.4.10. According to Shanghai Dee it's very hazy out there!
  24. Has Shanghai just been hit by a typhoon or is that the normal standard of their transmission?
  25. They obviously haven't been told Tom Scully's gone home because his just came on the screen as the HFF.
