Draftees from outside the AFL system
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don’t think either club can complain about the outcome. Based on lady year’s draft, they are getting access to players who would be available in the 20s or 30s. If they select or trade those picks well, it should be adequate in terms of assistance. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Whispering_Jack replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
We were very fortunate that Max was fit to play in every game this year because we had no back up rucks of quality to replace him had it proved necessary. One could have mounted a case for the use of undersized back ups but I don’t think that would necessarily work at the pointy end of the season in a big game. With Preuss as back up to Max and Austin Bradtke as the understudy, our ruck stocks are looking a lot better going forward into 2019. -
This is a rumour file - you have to make it up.

Like most, I would prefer that he stays but if we can’t convince him to do so, then his value should be assessed at least at the equivalent of the two first round picks it cost us to get Jake Lever. Terry Wallace has placed Chad Wingard at that level and Hogan is IMO worth more than that. We are facing an interesting month or so ahead.

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes - they actually favoured Casey in the second half by 17 to 12 but the Hawks still finished well in front on the day. Still, while the umpiring affected Casey’s lead at half time, it was by no means the main or only reason for the defeat. KC’s report later today will cover the player stats. -
Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final

And just to rub salt into the wounds, North Adelaide (the 19 players on the ground team) best the SANFL Redlegs Norwood in their Grand Final today. -
Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
The umpiring against Casey has been ordinary in every game I’ve seen them play this year but you have to live with it unfortunately. There’s nobody to complain about it to at this stage. Another interesting stat is the tackles. Casey have had 39 which is more than what Melbourne got all game in Perth. -

A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS - CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Special Features
Red Rubber Ball was written by Simon & Woodley. It’s performed here by The Seekers - it was also a hit for a mid-1960s American group The Cyrkle. -
Terry Wallace has revealed his top 10 players outside the AFL system who clubs should consider recruiting in this year’s draft. I think he erred in omitting Sam Collins of Werribee who I would rank ahead of anyone on this list. Plough’s top 10 potential draftees outside the AFL system Plough’s top 10 state level players (not in any order): Mitch Grigg (Norwood/SANFL) Shane McAdam (Sturt/SANFL) Josh Clayton (Southport/NEAFL) Michael Gibbons (Williamstown/VFL) Ryan Gilmore (Townsville/Gold Coast Academy) Josh Corbett (Werribee/VFL) Sam Sturt (Peninsula Grammar/Victoria) Jye Bolton (Claremont/WAFL) Jordan Morrissey (County Carlow/Ireland) Will Hayes (Footscary/VFL) ... and there are a couple of handy players at Casey who he has overlooked.

Too good a player to ignore if available unless his price tag is ridiculous.

I would be very surprised if Collingwood were to win against Richmond on their showing against GWS. The intensity of their game last week was a few notches below that of the night before and they will need to lift to match it with Richmond.

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - VFL Grand Final
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dare I say it but no Mitch King either. Feel sorry for the kid but he hasn’t kicked on since his injuries and footy’s a tough industry. Still, as a young ruckman, he will still have opportunities in the future. -
19th September, 1964 Neil Crompton (#5) kicks the goal that seals the premiership. Ronald Dale Barassi's last game for Melbourne (and Bluey Adams' too). Hopefully, not much longer to wait for the next one? cccc

The SANFL Preliminary Final fiasco
Whispering_Jack replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was involved in such a situation in junior football in the early 90s at a time when the rules of the game had just been changed to something close to what they are now. The original rule said if you had 19 players then your entire score would automatically be scrubbed. With the introduction of interchanges, it was recognised that an innocent mistake could be made and therefore the rule was changed to give the governing body (not the field umpire) to decide on the outcome. In the case where I was involved, there had been an innocent mistake by a player who remained on the ground after the three quarter time break for about 3 minutes during which time no scores were recorded. When the count was taken at the behest of the team manager of the opposition side (and not the captain as the rules stated), the umpire took it upon himself to take off the entire score of the team with the extra player. The case went to appeal and the league compromised by taking off a portion of that team's score but the outcome was still wrong. Thankfully, the changed result did not affect the final ladders for the season but a number of officials took their eyes off the objectives of junior football and it was really as if they were playing for sheep stations. In the current situation, the team that offended should have whatever they scored while they had 19 men on the ground deducted from the score. -
Anyone notice the Collingwood players celebrating a bit too much?

There have been some talented players in the past to come out of the Amateurs. Mitch Hannan was playing with St Bernards and now is a step away from an AFL Grand Final. Here’s another player who could follow in his footsteps. Ammos star's big season sees recruiters lurking

The TAC Cup Grand Final will be fought out between the Dandenong Stingrays and Oakleigh Chargers. Both easily won their respective preliminary final matches.
