WTF? Always good to have scapegoat I guess but Aaron shouldn't be your guy. He was excellent in the first half. His ball use was great. Linked up well. The fact that he even played in the second half after getting smashed by McEvoy was a credit to him. If you want to identify reasons we lost. Here are five: Our key target TMac couldn't get a touch. Our best inside 50 guy Petracca went at 55 percent disposal efficiency. Our two other main midfielders Oliver and Viney turned it over 18 times! We can't kick a set shot. Jackson had four effective disposals for the day.
-
Vanders played four times as well as Harmes did last week.
-
You know what. He's come back from a horrible injury and got better every week. That's great. Sure, he looks a yard off and that's impacting his disposal but for your clubs soul you stick fat with guys like Viney. Come finals he will surprise a few

Plenty of blokes down today which tells me there's little ruthlessness in this team. I thought the umpires blatantly cheated in the second and third quarters. Hawks happy to put head down and run in Melbourne legs and somehow kept getting free kicks. Max had the crap belted out of him and nothing. It's why AFL is such an amateur sport.

Who the hell is our goal kicking coach!?
dee-tox replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Has been atrocious all year. AFL standard players should not be regularly missing from 35 metres. -
6. Lever 5. Salem 4. Fritta 3. Hunt 2. Max 1. Petracca Refuse to give Oliver votes because he simply wasn't effective.
-
Officially these umpires are cheats.
-
Plenty to like. Spargo's ball use. Lever and May doing their thing. Vanders has looked great Four great passes. Jordon, Rivers and JAcko doing some good things.
-
I'll be happy if Brisbane finish third or fourth. They lack leadership, pace and midfield depth. We have them easily covered. As an aside I'd love McCluggage to announce he wants to return to Victoria and nominate the Dees. Great player.

Don't disagree, but worth noting the Italian keeper is only 21 and handled it OK...?
-
Wasn't excessively violent and wasn't obstructing an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Quite smart play and definitely worth getting a yellow for!

Agree with most of the comments here. We are at an all-time low. I was glad that Brooce finally retired. The 80 rhetorical questions a game were cringeworthy. I've no idea how boofhead callers and former players like Taylor, Russell and Darcy can convince TV networks that they can commentate on games. Pathetically amateurish. Some players can make the transition to commentary. Gary Lineker and Richie Benaud are good examples. But both did an exacting apprenticeship. Benaud as a journalist and Lineker with years of training from the BBC's best. Australia for some reason encourages hyperbole. Faux excitement, barracking for the underdog or the team that is five goals down. Then there's the ridiculous nicknames and general blokeyness. The difference between Shane Warne's commentary in the UK and in Australia is stark. We love to bring out the inner bogan! Australia also has this misguided idea that opinions matter. Unless they're incredibly inciteful, they don't. 'I just think Melbourne's midfield has got on top in the last five minutes!' Thanks Jobe. Or every game: what an incredible story Tom McDonald is. Put on the trade table... Thanks Hame! Others think opinions matter. The number one rule of commentary is don't insult the audience's intelligence. There are very few who don't. Adam Papalia and...?

I liked his game. Obviously he provides another target. Takes one of the best key defensive players. Gives our smalls a bit more of a predictability in where to rove. He cracked in hard and did a couple of nice things especially his pass to Spargo and his snap that was touched on the line. I prefer this to sitting the ball on Fritta's head. As long as the balance is OK with Jackson, Gawn, TMAc and Brown, I think we give a good block of games to prove himself.

Each to their own Titan but that 'mythical' toughness wasn't a myth in the 2018 run up to the finals and the three finals. If you're worried about Vanders' ball use fair enough. But the same goes for Harmes who had three kicks last night and turned over everyone of them!.
-
Had another look at the replay and Harmes' game was worse than I thought. Had a bit of a Barry Crocker. If Viney is doing the main defensive role to we need two taggers? I sometimes think that we are too harsh on Vanders. I think he has value as a big bodied mid. Good tackler, hard at it and good overhead. Makes others walk taller I've said this on a few ocassions but Demonland myth number 27 is that Vanders is slow. He's not. Is his ball use a worry? Sometimes but I'd like to see him given the chance Harmes has had.
-
How good was the second quarter? Relentless physical pressure. Running and supporting in numbers. We genuinely have some tough hombros playing in this side. The four goals were all elite to complement this toughness.
-
Not sure if Vanders can tag but I'd think about swapping him for Harmes. ANB has played one good game in the last five. He's a worry at the moment.
-
Jordon is so clean and unhurried. Does the difficult things incredibly well.
-
Good: Kozzie is back. Petty was great. TMac brilliant. Fritta's goal. May unstoppable. Petracca 3 votes. 22 contributors, Port were helpless going forward. Bad: Fumbling from ANB. Harmes' dumb free kicks and giving first option, some of Langdon's kicking. Ugly: The umpiring.
-
6. Petracca 5. McDonald 4. May 3. Petty 2. Kozzy 1. Max
-
A functioning forward line 22 goers Some magic interpersed with a massive work workrate.
-
Harmes bugs me so much. Ignored Petracca to kick straight to Alir. Stupid.
-
Great quarter. Intensity great. Petty has been a star. Two small things. Harmes or Jordon need to close down Boak. And stop giving unnecessary free kicks away!
-
Class personified Fritta! Unbelievable goal.

Costly fumble ANB
