  1. Going to be interesting to see where he lands. He's a first dibs midfielder who is elite at extracting the ball. He'll be an excellent replacement for Viney if Viney continues to struggle with his feet. Obviously a midfield these days isn't just the centre square blokes. Half forwards and half backs plus bench rotations. Sparrow, Harmes, Jordon, ANB, etc have different skillsets to Luke. Sparrow a thumping kick. Harmes decent overhead. Jordon and ANB incredible aerobic running. Hard to imagine a like for like replacement. But things quickly change depending on form, injury and game plan.
  2. Someone doesn't know how to spell Jordon or Schache...! But otherwise nice job.
  3. Needs to get properly fit. Apparently one of the poorest runners at Gold Coast. Can't see us making a play for him with Kozzie, Spargo, Chandler, ANB, etc. all with plenty of footy left. And if we did he would cost far too much.
  4. Depth can often appear good until it is truly tested. If we cast our mind back to 2020, many here were lamenting the performances of Baker, Smith, Bedford, Chandler, Melksham, the Weed, etc. Of the guys listed Hunt, Tomlinson and perhaps Dunstan have shown they are up to it. M. Brown, Smith, Melk, the Weed and Daw may be able to fill a short-term need. But I'd rather our depth wasn't tested next year! Few injuries and supreme fitness was perhaps the biggest factor in us winning the flag.
  5. Understand after winning a granny we are all prone to hyperbolic statements but I find it difficult to agree with this. Treloar in the GF had 27 possesions and 3 goals. Harmes, if we look at it objectively, had one great kick to Fritsch, four other kicks and quite a few stuff ups.
  6. Fritta was in the 40-man AA squad.
  7. I swear that was at the MCG Fork 'em. A big roundhouse right to the jaw. We were sitting in the old Smokers Stand and the crowd went ballistic.
  8. Based on their midfields, the Bombers, Blues and Dockers have the most scope for improvement you'd reckon, but there's a long way to go even to the start of the season. I think the Bombers could even be top-four,
  9. Interesting discussion. I, like others, doubt whether Baker will make it and Rosman is a long-term prospect. Howes looks to have a bit of class about him and certainly enough toe to make the wing his own. Another needs selection which is a good thing.
  10. Your obsession is bizarre. You seemingly make every post about Andrew. I wonder if you'd be as obsessed trashing an 18 year friend of your grandson as opposed to an 18 year old kid from Sudan?
  11. I kind of wish you would shut up about Mac Andrew. Post after post you've gone on about how you don't rate him. Must be 20 or 30 posts in the past three months. Once is enough.
  12. Based on the spelling, yes!
  13. Johnson is the interesting one. Some thought a top seven pick. Maybe recruiter think he is more Jordan Gysberts than Josh Kennedy!
  14. Most likely South African...
  15. Will be a good surfing partner for Luke Jackson!
  16. Best available tall. Makes sense and Taylor is true to his word picking for needs.
  17. You are right with the von and the van. But one thing to remember is that until a bit over 400 years ago Germany and the Netherlands were the same country. The provinces were split up in the 16th century so there are many von's in the Netherlands and van's in NL. They mean the same thing. Of or from, although Von comes from German nobility and anyone can be a 'van'. So if your name name is van den Berg, you are from the mountain (berg) or Virgil van Dijk you are from the dike!
  18. He also famously said Clayton Oliver and Luke Jackson were not worthy of first round picks. His knowledge of football is very poor. Just because you spend time doing something doesn't mean you are good at it.
  19. I think this is spot on.
  20. That song would be attached to an overall storyline that Goodwin has used all year. The song I'd imagine would be a very small part. Goodwin himself admitted the need to be himself to bring out his strengths as a coach. I get the impression that he made a conscious decision to do it his way so if he did get the flick there'd be no regrets. Coaches do weird things to tick those boxes of ethos, pathos and logos in their storytelling. Beveridge used a kids book in 2016, Salty Dog, to help the players overcome their fears. But I agree with you Skuit. Used in isolation, a song from what is a fairly lame movie wouldn't appeal to 40 guys aged between 18 and 33. Used to provide an emotional overlay to a bigger message and it is a fairly powerful thing.
  21. Interesting we are going needs. Logically that means key position sized blokes to replace BBB, TMac May, Mitch Brown etc. Might also mean they are looking for a hard running flanker with good skills.
  22. Before the QB game he'd just come off booting four in the VFL. I've heard many a Demonlander demand a player be selected after kicking four for Casey. He may or may not have been ready but the whole messiah thing Schwab was pushing at the time was way over the top.
  23. Games are won in the midfield and Richmond's midfield doesn't come close to Melbourne's or the Bulldogs. Cotchin is done. Prestia's hamstrings are shot, Edwards is 34 next year and Dusty is coming off a serious injury. The next crop of players are not capable of stepping up.
  24. I think opposition clubs are very interested in our intellectual property, or how we managed to go from ninth to first in one year. I think this is why so many from within the inner sanctum have left this season, probably for more money. There's Burgess, Byrnes, Nev, Daniel McPherson, etc. Then again it's one thing to know how an opposition club does something and another thing to implement it to the same standard.
  25. Interesting view but does Goodwin even do outside midfielder? Langdon is probably our closest. All our line breakers can win their own ball. Salem, Rivers, Hunt, etc.
