And therein lies the problem. This trade does not reflect the worth of the player. The players hold way too much power as it stands and are holding clubs to ransom. Doggies put a good 4-5 years of development into Smith and just has he comes home to roost, he demands a change. He is entitled to do so, no issue on that front, but the clubs have to pay fair value. Geelong make a living out of this type of trade and they do it very very well. Normally you'd say ok, well done, but when a club makes finals 75% of the time in the last 2 decades and are in a PF every couple of years, you have to ask yourself is it an equal playing field. I was thinking the other week how fans in European football league competitions must feel when the likes of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc continue to win the league competitions year after year after year. Why would you bother supporting a mid-tier club when your chances of winning are next to zero. The AFL is fast becoming a competition that is going to resemble this if it is not careful. But we have a competition where clubs finishing in the top 4, get picks in the top 5 in the draft, or are able to get first dibbs on out-of-contract players. In my view, its a simple fix, clubs in the top 4 (or something equivalent) should be taxed for NGA, F/S and out-of-contract players. Whether it is some type of salary cap tax, trade tax - i dont know- but we cannot allow these clubs to get a leg up on the other building / struggling teams.

This is what it is for me. Strangely I have a lot of empathy for Clarry but not Trac even though Clarry to some extent was responsible for a lot that happened to him whilst Trac was not. It was the way that Trac bought the entire club to its knees in the aftermath of his injury that lost it for me. it was and continues to be unforgivable in my eyes - that is why i want him gone. I would much rather see Clarry rediscover his footy than Trac. Hard to explain but that is just the way i feel rightly or wrongly.

Ok what about Cripps or Walsh or Merret? They are in a similar position to Trac are they not? Both on big money, could pursue success elsewhere etc. I don’t get why there is this particular fixation on Trac but not others. Now I’d like to get rid of him as well - he is on top dollar and can’t kick to save his life. If we can get Hawks (Blues) first round this year, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Some good tall defenders in the top 10.

There is something about this whole thing that just doesn’t add up. Ghostly has solid track record and I tend to believe what she has put up on McVee. However the delay in announcement is totally bizarre and should not have anything to do with coach announcement from a marketing perspective as we already announced some resigning earlier. So he either hasn’t signed, outright lied to Ghosty and all of us (by extension) and is waiting for coach to be announced before making his decision OR He has signed and there is a the ‘Bermuda triangle’ situation with his paper work and announcement script.
