  1. Different type of player. Trac and Oliver were inside mods. If the game had not become so offensive in nature, they would have excelled. The modern game suits Bont to a tee. I’d say Callaghan is placed to be the next best player in the comp. FWIW I don’t rate Daicos in the same class as those two.
  2. Sam Darcy should have the nick name cheat code.
  3. Would be a good get, but suspect it would take more than a 2 year deal. I’d go for a 2+1 or 2+1+1 where to get the extensions there must be minimum games played and goals kicked. Say 30 games after 2 years gets the +1 and then another 15 gets the the fourth year. I’d be asking for 30-40 goals per year as well. That way if he can satisfy the expectations he’ll get 4 years otherwise we have the discretion to terminate his contract t. We could offer him good money. 600-800k per year.
  4. He has lost interest and confidence in a big way. May the later feeds the former. Whether that’s in footy, the club, the playing group who knows. But he is playing with less intensity than he has in the past. He definitely needs a reset and the zero interest is a furphy to lessen his value even more. We may end up having to cough up picks for a club to take his full contract value. That is the game Geelong is playing - that I have no doubt. If Clarry really wants to leave, then he will need to take a hair cut. I’m not giving another club picks to take him purely out of principle.
  5. Who knows… but if there are offers for him in the first round you have to take it. His form has been terrible and he is injury prone. It just has the hall marks of Gus, Petty and Oliver offers a few years back. If we don’t take it we will look back in 12 months and say, if only. We simply must. There hasn’t been a single trade scenario where the decision to hold players has worked in our favour. Not one. This is another reason why the Footy dept needs to be scrapped.
  6. The best thing… Lever worth a 1st round pick. Much higher than I would have thought but happy be to proven wrong , if he decides to leave.
  7. No thanks. He is one concussion away from retirement.
  8. Its actually a fair point. If they want to go, we should say we want x,y,z in terms of return value and then the club they nominate has to meet that criteria...if that means they need to take a hair cut in their salary then so be it. Unfortunately we know it doesn't work that way and arguably we have seen the effect of keeping players against their will.
  9. To me its full salary for a 2nd rounder. Or pay part salary and Geelongs first this year. I just cant see it being any more than that. Id seriously do it now for a 2nd rounder, which we could use to go after GC Suns Pick 8 or 11. Give we are carrying (or will be) Gus's salary for the next few years, id hate to stack on more of that. What would annoy me tremendously is if Oliver went back to his old for after the trade - hard to see it, but its always a possibiliy. Maybe we make the trade contingent on a 2nd pick that is tied to Oliver BnF finish in his first year.
  10. Clarry would be too hard but maybe a 2nd rounder to package and goto GC for 8. I’d prefer we keep Viney. For all his faults the guy has unquestionable commitment and standards. We need him four our youth brigade. Lever for pick 21 Clarry for pick 33 21,33,24 ( our pick) for GC’s pick 8. 7 and 8 this year - probably end up in the teens. If Trac stays, then having 8 will still be a positive outcome.
  11. Who have you been watching for the last 3 years? Post ‘22 Lever has been nothing near his best. Once teams worked out that you just need put a player on him to keep him engaged, his intercept game has been almost non existent. Im doubtful we’d get Duursma, but who knows. North meed more senior players and leaders not draft picks. We need youth or draft picks. It’s the perfect deal.
  12. We are not contending in the next 3-4 years so what does it matter? 2026 will have May around at least. Perhaps JVR or Jeffo can be repurposed for the back half. Then there is Jed Adam’s that could get some game time. Lever like the rest of our senior players has been out of form for 2 years to the extent where ‘out of form’ is actually a compliment. If we could get Duursma or a first rounder it would be a steal. Alternatively getting a second rounder can help us trade into the first round by working with the northern academy clubs - Gold Coast in particular have 8 and 11. North have 20,21. Packaging our 2nd and North’s 2nd (#20) may help us get pick 11- we would need more picks to go after pick 8 as we fall short in points required for the exchange. Although we could ask North for 21 and 38 (3rd) which would get about 1600 points. This gives GC 3 picks and a total excess of about 200 points. It would be a good deal for all involved. If we could move Trac to Hawthorn for their current pick 7, we could potentially goto West Coast for a deal on Their pick 1 or a long shot for Harley Reid or otherwise take them both to the draft.
  13. That’d be a good outcome. I suspect they would want a sweetener though.
  14. I think it’s just match fitness. I’d put him in ice u til next year. Some players take time and some don’t ever get back to what they were before the ACL. Kiddy was a similar player to NAS and the Lions will never let him go. He’ll be back in action 2026 no doubt.
  15. I don't mean to be rude of facetious, but why would we target players that are failing to make an appearance at AFL level? The probability of them excelling and displacing someone in our bottom 6 is incredibly small let alone having a chance to improve our best 22. The money it would take to dislodge them would be a waste. Now if its to improve our VFL side, well then thats another matter, but i fail to see the point of targeting the top echelon of VFL players. Again not to be rude and others have also called out similar ideas, but these types of trades will do nothing. They are akin to the Schache, Culley, Henderson, Sharp, Fullarton trades and all know how that has worked out.
  16. No way. We need to rebuild not patch fix. Lewis is on the outer anyway, injury prone.
  17. Its something i wonder about as well. i.e. what specifically is responsible for his drop in form. Its not just a minor drop either - i wouldn't even consider him in the average bucket of midfielders anymore- perhaps a harsh view on my account. But our once lauded midfield is in fact the weakest part of our team (yes more so than our dysfunctional forward line). We know he has a complex MH diagnosis for which he is receiving ongoing treatment. We also know the game has evolved and his role has changed. But all of the things we know (above) doesn't feel like it can explain it all - maybe it does. maybe it is as simple as that. But maybe he has lost the desire to play footy - that he has fallen out-of-love (pardon the pun) with the game, his teammates and the club. The performances feel much more in line with something of this nature and hence why the talk of being in a new environment may help him rediscover his passion. I noticed in his 200th, there appeared to be an extra spring in his step. He had a bit more emotion coming through. He put in a bit more effort... To be fair there are others that fall into this bucket as well.
  18. A It wasn’t by choice. There wasn’t an opportunity to bring them on as the game play was on the other side of the ground.
  19. They were preparing for Reid but it’s looking unlikely and Allen is off to the Lions.
  20. We cannot hold onto the premiership team, it will give us nothing on field. The quicker we transition to the next team the quicker we are back in the limelight. Trading Trac and others that have value give us the picks to help us regenerate the list quicker. If we don’t, then we will be stuck in the middle of nowhere. Hawks rebounded very quickly with the right trading and recruitment. We have already started so it’s a matter of getting 50 odd games into the kids we will recruit this year and next.
  21. If it’s for Pick 7 Take it and run.
  22. We will lose this game. Just you watch.
  23. What big changes are coming ? (according to Tom) if the board has publicly ally back the coach (Guerra too).
  24. I am 100% in the phase of burn the whole place down, move the team to Wangaratta and start again, so take my posts for the remainder of this week/month/year with a grain of salt. Now with that caveat out of the way, we have to rebuild this side entirely. Not patch fit and relaunch. Our next premiership side will not have Trac, Oliver, Gawn, May, Melksham, Lever, Viney, Fritta or Salem in the squad. THat may be a bitter pill to swallow, but once you come to accept that, then you can see through the trees and uncover the available options - we have plenty. There is the 2025 and 2026 drafts before Tassie come in. Right now we have the 25 2nd and our 1st and 2nd in 2026. 3rd rounders are a gamble that rarely come off, but there is every chance that we may snare 1 or 2 depth talent. We need another 1-2 Top 10 players and then another 3-4 somewhere in the 10-30 range. In all of those picks we need kickers, preferably 2 HB's, a KPF and a KPD. Then the next batch really is what else we uncover over the next year or so. We are devoid of 3-4 of the picks we need. We will clearly be bottom 4-6 next year so that is one top 10 taken care of. The other 2 picks will be in the 20's. So we need another top 10, and another 2 picks in the teens. The ONLY way we get that is by moving on those players while they have currency. Now is not the time for Trades and FA. The fact that Simon is talking about trades and FA should be a red flag to the board that he will absolute ruin this club if he is left in the job. Trac will not want to entertain any other club other than a VIC powerhouse. He wont goto the Bombers OR Carlton as they are in a similar position to us. It leaves the Hawks or the Pies. The Hawks have Pick 7 (Carltons 1st round) are in prime position to contend for the flag and could do with a Trac type. The Pies dont have the picks to make that happen. Oliver to Geelong is probably a 2nd rounder or Future 1st, but we may have to pay his salary to get that deal done. May to the Doggies to plug their defensive 50 problems will get us a 2nd rounder. We will need to keep Lever to play an interim captain. Fritta can really go anywhere and is probably a 2nd rounder. McVee rumoured to Freo/WC is probably a 2nd rounder or late 1st at best. Do we get a compensation pick if he goes or is that reserved for RFA? That is how we can get things done and get the required 6 picks to rebuild our side that has a chance to contend within the next 5-6 years. Any other course of action is just time wasting. Here is what a side in 3-4 years could look like B: McVee Turner Howes HB: Lever CHB Bowey C: Lindsay Langford Windsor HF: Chin CHF Kozzy F: Kolt (?) JVR AMW Foll: Kalani Mid X Mid Y I/C: WTF knows Retired: Tmac, Gawn, Melksham, Salem, Langdon, Viney Traded: Fritta, May, Trac, Oliver *Ill keep McVee for now given the suggestion he isnt going anywhere. Oh and did i mention we need our new coach and GM in place to make this all happen. We cannot trust Lamb, Goodwin and Richo to rebuild this side.
