  1. I agree on some of these points, however there hasn't been many players that has been prematurely traded before he became a free agent. You look at the players that are requesting a trade, McCarthy, Aish, Boyd etc. The list goes on. These players have been at their respective club for 1-4 years. You need to be at your club for 10 years to be eligible for free agency. I think 'a little later' is a bit of a stretch when there is another 6+ years they need to be at the club to be eligible for free agency.
  2. I completely agree. I'm not saying there is something wrong with free agency. I am saying what is the point of it when contracted players are nominating the club of choice where they want to go to. It shouldn't happen. Being able to hamstring your club and decide where you want to go especially when your contracted AND having free agency I think shouldn't happen. It doesn't compute to me.
  3. You're completely missing the point here praha.. This thread wasn't a cry for help because Melbourne are less fortunate. This thread was more of a frustrated query is to why players voted this in because they wanted more freedom in walking to clubs they want to, when it seems like they already have that freedom being either IN or OUT of contract.
  4. It just angers me how players beg for more freedom, yet even if they are in contract they can treat clubs however they please to get to their desired club..
  5. I get and understand that free agency was voted in by the players through the players association. But from an external stand point I pose the question. What is the point of free agency? In the players eyes, free agency allows movement and freedom in joining their desired club of choice after serving a number of years at the club. Fair enough. However, it seems like players these days even in and out of contract hold majority of the power in determining where they actually go and who they want to be traded to. Players and their managers being at their respective club for as little as two years can just up and say 'X player has requested a trade and wants to play for X club' and more likely than not, that player lands at the club he has nominated to go to. Which brings me back to my initial question. What is the point of free agency, when players can simply request a trade to whichever club they want to go to? To me, free agency just makes things a lot more difficult in determining compensation, holding up proceedings if a team has matched a restricted free agent offer, powerhouse clubs simply injecting top end talent and not having to give up anything for it etc. I just don't understand the need for it when players are ending up at clubs they want to play for anyway in OR out of contract..
  6. Mahoney just confirmed 2nd round pick looks to be around the mark for Melksham.
  7. Mahoney early last week kept mentioning how we are looking at wanting to bring in competitors. Players who run to the contests, compete, tackle and apply pressure which I think is why blokes like Toumpas and Watts keep getting their names thrown up to be traded out.
  8. Melksham deal will be done by midday today according to trade radio
  9. It was a very brief chat, they grabbed Mahoney when he was walking past and journos fired off brief questions. Cards seem very close, don't want to give anything away it seems like.
  10. Mahoney on trade radio right now: - Melbourne weighing up Toumpas whether to keep or trade - Still keen on holding Howe and think they are a chance - Discussions about Watts but doesn't look to trade him
  11. The guy is tough and has great speed. I'd be looking at him, would come cheap.
  12. If you REALLY meant to say that after I corrected you then I apologise..But in saying that, just because there willing to pay Howe $600k, doesn't mean they have to offer 'great compo' aka trade picks. Not how it works bud.
  13. He isn't a free agent... there is NO compensation in this WHAT so ever. How do people NOT understand how this works?
  14. Don't post in a dead thread to get everyone excited with a stupid trade hypothetical...
  15. I feel like a Mitch Clark scenario is unraveling here. The way we are going into this trade period reminds me of being at an auction.. We're just sitting there, letting the other suitors battling it out for the property, then we just come in with a late bid that trumps them all. LETS GO DEES!
  16. It's not about making him stay.. Aish is out of contract, he isn't being forced to stay by Brisbane with those comments. What Brisbane are doing is making a stance, staying if we draft you, don't expect in 2 years time to just nominate where you want to go and force us to trade you to that club when in turn we will get unders for you...If you want out, you're going to have to walk through the pre season draft or nominate for the national draft and risk being picked up by another club.
  17. Aish has requested a trade to Collingwood on trade radio from Brisbane Lions twitter
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Melbourne has inquired about Lennon.. He fits in that bracket of recruiting someone who has played AFL and a preseason under their belt and is a real competitor and is also a youth player. Mahoney keeps pressing the fact that we are looking at bringing in real competitors to the club.
  19. Same.. I remember last year I proposed a trade of Watts for Casboult when Malthouse was really keen on Watts and I got absolutely flamed for it..I think now majority of people on demonland now would do that trade in a heartbeat.
  20. Levi Casboults manager on trade radio, mentioned there has been some suits inquiring about his services. Could Melbourne possibly look at him to help Hogan out? His kicking has improved and I rate him one of the best contested marks in the league.
  21. Josh Mahoney coming on shortly. Will be providing a summary of the chat.
  22. Yeah we did..Very happy the trade didn't go through. Can't wait to see Petracca out there alongside Brayshaw.
