He’s getting more experience. Against Carlton, he was getting good position, but was sometimes pushed out (illegally?). I thought he also did well against Richmond. From what I saw against Brisbane, and Darcy Fort, who is very highly regarded, he at least broke even. His stats around the ground look to be affected by Brisbane having 3 good rucks. He’s a competitive beast, so who knows what could happen if they show some faith in him? Having said that, Fullarton is in the box seat. His experience counts for something.

It’s a matter of risk versus reward. It looks and smells like things have improved, but I’m not going to risk sitting on the crapper for the next few days, just to find out. I can confirm that the chips have improved.

Eww! It’s not pretty. Any experienced ruck should be able to tap it lace-out to anyone within a 30m radius. Some form of contest is vital to stop their forwards from getting clean delivery. And while we are at it, how many people here have wrestled a 100+kg gorilla once - let alone 50 times in 2 hours? I just don’t believe a part timer, or even 2–3, could compete for the whole game without injury or severe affect on their usual output. We’ve got 2 in the cupboard who are in reasonable knick. They should give one a go.

Their marking stats are high because they like to chip it around. They also have two good marking forwards, and three interceptors in the back half. But most of their marks seem to be uncontested.

Better that Max has a rest now than round 23 onwards. Not rocket science. 2 choices. The menu is Cream or Fish. I would usually advocate for a new player being tried for several matches, however this is more of a “break glass in case of emergency”. If he’s out for more than 1 week and the first one doesn’t work, then try the next one.

I hope that fellow DLs have not taken my above post too seriously or been offended by my flippancy. Apologies. My intentions were just to entertain and have a laugh. I can empathise with many of the viewpoints expressed as they come from a place of care for the club, and sometimes from frustration when things are not working. My personal bugbears are triggered when inexperienced/debut players are constantly filling the role of sub, and then exiled for a few weeks. Personally, I think that they need a run of 5 games or more before they can show their wares. Within the areas of selection and structure, I believe that there are just too many known and unknown Unknowns. I believe that, with a decent run of luck, we can go far into September this year, and that the loss of Melky, Gus and JVR last year probably robbed us of one. Cheers

I’m still annoyed that his screamer wasn’t paid. So obviously a mark. His running patterns today opened up our forward line. And he showed last year that he can adapt it depending on the defence. I think it really clicked for him last year and it looked like he was enjoying making the other forwards look good as well. A big Welcome Back Melky!
