Training Ground?
Some positive news 👍 Why is there an expectation that the State Government fund this? 🫤 Surely funding comes from several sources, MFC, club donors, Vic Govt, Commonwealth Govt and the AFL??

Training Ground?
Whilst waiting for page 184 and the news to drop tomorrow I just wanted to touch on some historical points about MFC, MCC & MCG (because I am a bit of a history nerd 🤓) raised in the last few pages in this thread. Whilst the Dees are inextricably linked to the MCC and MCG there are some myths prevalent about this. Melbourne Football Club was not founded by the MCC but rather some MCC members founded a football club. The formal link between the MCC and MFC was inked in 1890, some 31-32 years after MFC was established. The MCG was not the Dees first main ground. Whilst a few matches were played here and there at the MCG itself, MFC had its own ground next to the MCG which was nicknamed the 'Gravel Pit'. In 1885 another ground was established where Olympic Park (now Collingwood's training oval) used to be and this was called the Friendly Societies Ground. Also in 1885-1890 period the main football tenant of the MCG was actually Carlton. Technically the Blues are first football tenant of the MCG. In 1890 when the MCC formally incorporated MFC as its football component then the MCG became the Dees main homeground and the Dees the main footballing tenant of the MCG. Yes, ideally the Dees should have developed the Olympic Park site but Collingwood muscled their way into that [and other factors ... can't change that outcome now]. Now, MFC have an opportunity to get a home base in Caulfield which is inside their old historic recruiting zone where they do have supporters who reside nearby and hopefully this comes to fruition. Looking forward to some positive news tomorrow ... 😊

Matt Owies
It would be sad to see Owies leave the Blues. He is a bit of an enigma as a forward, has definite limitations as a footballer but yet still has a good goal scoring record. He isn't really a crumbing forward, he moves into open space to take marks and is a solid kick for goal. I think the market will pay him more than he is currently on at Carlton and the Blues want to reserve cap space for Weitering, TDK and maybe some new incoming trades. That is why he is being allowed to explore his options Definitely would not be a flop inward trade like Billings. Owies will earn his keep.

Training Ground?
Leo, my point was that people in every day life do indeed factor in the location, the convenience of travel to, the standard of physical facilities etc when making choices about employment. AFL footballers will do the same. To think you can have substandard facilities and attract top line trade talent is naive. Especially as in recent years some clubs have built new facilities and some clubs have revamped old facilities. I recently moved to brand new, modern offices (never occupied previously), quality facilities in a great location and it played a factor in me staying in my current role rather than actively seeking a new position elsewhere.

Matt Kennedy
Kennedy is a decent inside mid, but is slow pace wise. Has been used to fill in other positions this season and always puta an effort in. Solid when kicking for goals. Carlton are sending Cerra to specialists in Qatar for his hamstrings so that looks like they see him staying at the Princes Park. George Hewitt probably gets in slightly ahead of Kennedy and now their is also the youngster Lord who can provide midfield depth so Kennedy is free to look elsewhere. Kennedy is a popular player with supporters and many would be sad to see him go but changes to the Blues midfield mix are needed.

From the vault
Page 20 of today's 'The Age' has an article from 17 Sept 1996 about the proposed Demons-Hawk merger. What was the issue with the contentious proxy votes? 🤔

When looking for a new job (say it is an office job), do you look at the location, condition, style, facilities of the office, the building its located in and the area it is in?

The Melbourne - Norwood connection
If in the early days Port & Norwood came across to the VFL instead of founding the Adelaide Crows, it would have worked. Now it is too late for Norwood, that ship has sailed. A 20th team from Perth is more likely tbh, has a larger population base and likely to grow more in population in the future. Kangaroos to Canberra with a few NT games, can still be called the Northern Kangaroos and the competition is set.

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
3 point win to Port but Hawks were gifted 3 or 4 goals by the umps.

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Whoever thought I would be fist pumping as Port kicks a goal and yet here we are, lol. This annoying Hawthorn run needs to come to an end 😁

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Umps have brought the Hawks back into this, horrid umpiring!

NON-MFC: Semi Finals
Outrageous "free" on Chol 👎

Training Ground?
Too small footprint for current AFL standards. Single oval hemmed in by housing. Hawks want to move to Dingley for good reasons.

Time to go Goody?
I think Goodwin has often been slow to react and change tactics in game. He found a formula that worked in 2021 and wants to keep rinsing and repeating. It is not working in 2024. I think he did try to change tactics at some stages during the season but this is best done in pre-season than on the run. He did have injuries this season, had it not been for that, a top 8 finish was likely. He does have 1 premiership so that gives him a buffer. I think he is on notice now, a poor showing in 2025 and his exit papers will be stamped.

Former MFC President Joe Gutnick calls to make club-shaking moves
Sometime forward structure and tactics play a role in poor set shot outcomes as well. If most of your inside 50s are shallow and along the boundary less of them will result in goals than when you had fowards that found space and got in better positions to kick goals.

Tony Charlton's Football Show: 'Norm Smith Sacked'. The entire 1hr live episode.
I watched it, interesting viewing. Anything similar covering the RDB move out there in Youtube Land?

Tairon Ah-Mu - No access for Dees NGA Talent
It is absurd that Pasifika kids aren't covered by the NGA academies. A very big and growing immigrant demographic in Australia and a culture that gravitates to Rugby Union (and Rugby League by default).

Training Ground?
The footprint of current state-of-the art AFL training facilities is larger than Uni of Melbourne has available. BTW, one of Carlton's earliest ovals used in its early history are where the playing fields and residential colleges are currently at Melbourne Uni. As for Fawkner Park, awesome location, don't see local sporting clubs and residents allowing that though. The beauty of Caulfield RC Reserve is that it is currently dead ground, not used by anyone regularly other than some dog walkers.

Christian Petracca
Carlton (the neighbourhood) and Lygon Street have changed and are changing but I am confident Nonna Tracc would aporove of the lunches served at Parco dei Principi with potential team mates like Silvagni, Cerra, Cincotta, Fantasia and Pittonet there ... 😁

Former MFC President Joe Gutnick calls to make club-shaking moves
If it wasn't for Diamond Joe, the Dees would no longer be a club, its remnants would be the Melbourne Hawks with some hortibly garish colour scheme and founded in 1996. Doesn't mean Joe G. Has a role to play at MFC today though, his time has passed. I think its just a clickbait article.

Training Ground?
Yes, heard about this on the radio this morning but the contentious issues at MRC may not cross over with what MFC are trying to setup at the racecourse reserve.

Christian Petracca
I see the Petracca Parma logo is in blue, could still be used even if Trac went to another club with a matching colour scheme [runs for the foxhole before the incoming mortars detonate] ... 😁
