PODCAST: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Do we even have forwards? Fritsch was better today but still a shadow of the top 5 forward he was in 2022-2023. Melksham playing with a busted shoulder. JVR devoid of any confidence (boggles the mind what happened to him during the off season). Petty, stop the experiment please. TMac not used. Jeffo NQR yet. Turner, has found his spot in defence so just leave him there.

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
Petty should become May's replacement eventually. Stop with the experiment at Fwd.

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Port Adelaide
Surely Petty is dropped? Not sure if it would be worth trying TMac at Fwd.

Time to go Goody?
The reality is that our team is as inept (historically inept at that) as they come in terms of offence/offensive efficiency. We have great players at contest and defence and Goodwin for the most part knows how to take advantage of that. However, at the enf of the da, these games are won by the numbers you put up in the scoreboard. And to me, it is not only the goal kicking (which is very bad) but also decision making/execution. To illustrate that, during the first 15 minutes of the first quarter we were having some ascendency and should've scored more goals. The one play that annoys me is that one where Melksham gets a great mark and Kozzy is running free towards goal. Then Melksham proceed to kick to a contest instead of kicking to space where most likely Kozzy had a chance to grab the ball free and in front of any defender. Some may think that's an irrelevant play but momentum is everything in Footy. You kick that goal we are up 2 goals and start to build confidence and positive energy.

Goalkicking
Is their accuracy based on high or low volume? Just need to be careful because low volume high efficiency can be misleading.

Goalkicking
As much as I love Max. It drives me crazy his spinning of the ball when he starts his set shot motion. I think that's something he should definitely get rid off, I am not expert but I think a lot of people would say that is detrimental to the whole process of trying to kick straight.

Time to go Goody?
We already lost Yze, see us lose any other promising young coach due to inaction. I still don't understand the Laurie situation. Good for VFL, not impactful at AFL. Then we use him as a sub, but offers no X factor. Gets dropped next week. Rinse and repeat.

What about bring TMac in, Lever out. Then Petty - May - Disco back line. TMac to our fwd line?

The Alice Game
And building success on the field.

The Alice Game
North still has a better overall record in Hobart despite being bottom of the ladder for 6 years. Just slightly above 50% win percentage. We are more like just under 40%. Granted the sample size is different.

The Alice Game
Sounds like we should be selling our games to the most "posh" council in Australia 😅 Any chance we can play down in Toorak? Any Ovals near Entrecôte?

The Alice Game
That's the reality, isn't it? If the money dried out tomorrow probably we wouldn't keep playing there. At the end of the day there is many considerations like logistics costs, not only players but even a large part of club staff travelling up there. Plus the loss of revenue by not playing at the G. St Kilda - Melbourne at the G with how well we were going recently probably would be in the low 30s in terms of attendance. Maybe more if we played it at Marvel.
-
The Alice Game
But the reality is our abysmal record of 4 - 7 is hurting our performance/ladder position. Compare it to Hawthorn in Tasmania, even North Melbourne win slightly above 50% of their matched down there (despite their last 6 years of misery).

We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
Then we are doomed to fail, no matter how much we dominate all other facets of the game. At least try to generate goal opportunities in a different way. More chaos play around the goal square than set shots.

We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
I am of the idea that raw data is overrated, we should focus more on analytics. Efficiency is king. Take for example the NBA.

We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
Our record of 4 - 7 in Alice Springs is damning. Too many distractions off the field?

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
I may be wrong but I feel we were under control the first 10 or so minutes. Then Milkshake and Kozzy proceeded to butcher two easy shots at goal. I think if we put the score 20 - 0 or similar in that initial part of the match, things could have developed differently.
-
We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
The most damning part of this, for me, is the 14% goal conversion. It is almost half of the average in the league, we probably are an outlier (in a negative way). Really reaching VFL levels of incompetence.

That's why I said some, not all.
-
Time to go Goody?
We are scoring 14% of our inside 50 (goal conversion). AFL average is 24%. 😭😭😭😭

Time to go Goody?
What has happened to Fritta? He used to be straight as an arrow. Now, devoid of confidence. Did he change his mechanics?

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
4-7 I read in another thread. Why even bother going there? No advantage whatsoever.

We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
As of June 1, 2025, the Melbourne Demons' efficiency per inside 50 is an area where they are struggling. Based on available statistics for the 2025 season: * Scores Per Inside 50: Melbourne averages 43.8 scores per inside 50. This is lower than the AFL average of 45.2, and significantly lower than their opponents' average of 52.0. This indicates that when they get the ball inside their attacking 50, they are not converting those opportunities into scores as effectively as other teams, and their opponents are much more efficient against them. * Goals Per Inside 50: They are converting only 14.6% of their inside 50s into goals, whereas the AFL average is 24.1%, and their opponents are converting at 26.0%. This highlights a particular inefficiency in converting inside 50s into majors. * Marks Inside 50: Melbourne averages 8 marks inside 50 per game, while their opponents average 14. This suggests they are not taking enough contested marks in their forward line, which impacts their scoring efficiency. The Demons have been described as "wasteful" and suffering from "inaccuracy in front of goal" in recent matches, which aligns with these statistics. Their inability to convert inside 50 entries into scores has been a contributing factor to some of their losses in the 2025 season.

PODCAST: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
It even feels like Kozzy plays some of his worst games up there. Pressure to perform in front of his indigenous crowd, maybe.
