He's Art Vandelay's cousin. Art was AA U16 quite a few years back but just didn't kick on as many hoped and expected.

I wasn't being sarcastic. For better or worse I've come to accept that Morton and Gysberts were failed selections, it would have been doubly galling if in fact that wasn't the case and they went on to good careers elsewhere after we let them go. I realise this doesn't prove that there have been no problems with our development over the years too - just maybe not in these 2 cases.

RD 1 2014 - v St. Kilda @ Etihad Saturday Night
old55 replied to demonkeaney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Right now they're not a happy team at Seaford: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/laidley-latest-to-join-exodus-from-saints-20131031-2wjah.html I think Pelchen is on the right track with their list and their midfield is still better than ours. But there's clearly problems with Watters situation which elevate our chances. They've got us and the GIANTS both at home in the 1st 2 rounds. Anything other than 2-0 and Watters will be in big trouble. -
A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward

True. And there's more footage there now than when I last watched too. Kicks: Target = 13, Goals = 4 Contest/turnover = 9 Inconclusive video = 3 Handballs Target = 6 He looked a lot better than I first thought and the extended footage just confirmed his electrifying breakaway pace.

While many here are using the Morton and Gysberts delistings to rail on yet again for the one millionth time about our poor drafting - I'm past that and I'm breathing a bit of a sigh of relief that North and West Coast didn't turn them into good players and it all come down to poor development after all.
-
3 minutes of selective footage is hardly conclusive but Freeman hits about 1 target in that whole set so there is a concern there I reckon. On the plus side a few of those disposals he has to get it on the boot under great pressure and he's very quick to do so.

What gives with the team names in that fixture? No mascot name: Carlton, St.Kilda, Port Adelaide, Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood, North Melbourne, Melbourne, Fremantle, Hawthorn Mascot name: Geelong Cats, Sydney Swans, West Coast Eagles, Adelaide Crows, Brisbane Lions Mascot name in CAPS: Gold Coast SUNS, GWS GIANTS Mascot name is their name: Western Bulldogs

There is - look at R18 it's over 2 weeks - so an effective bye weekend for eveyone

How about an MCG home game against Hawthorn, Richmond, Essendon or Carlton?

I agree, I'm reluctant to add more midfield soldiers at 40 and 57 - I think we've got enough. Definitely not enough class (pick 9) but enough soldiers. Hence some interest in Garlett but he's not doing himself any favours. I think a KPD prospect and X factor small fwd mid are more desirable at these picks

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

Agree Dal Santo and Sylvia - similar motivations - success. -
I'm tempted because we lack X-factor. So I went to BF to have read up. It refers to his facebook page which is open to the public and the content is not the material of a person doing everything he can to resurrect his reputation and get drafted. He's a young peanut. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/dayle-garlett.938906/page-13#post-30485276

Sources say mid 13s beep and 3.20s for 20m - nothing flash.

The PSD is over-rated these days with delisted FA and the ability to nominate a contract price in the ND. Unless we can convince an uncontracted listed required player that he wants to come to MFC that pick is useless - pick 57 way more useful. There's very few players with that status now - look at our candidates for example - Jetta and Nicholson.

Or 20% gone within a day ...

Taggert, Magner, Stark delisted; Clisby promoted
old55 replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Clisby for Taggert and Magner had to be either upgraded or delisted. Open: 4 3 senior list slots once Cross is added 4 rookie slots (0 rookies left) -
5-Fifty - time for a drink somewhere.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTTIm5ys78M He kicks a number of great round the corner snaps because he doesn't have time to straighten - which is fantastic. But when he kicks a set shot - like at 2:00 in that video he kicks straight through the ball - best goal kicking action since Garry Lyon at his best.

Team to try to win R1: B: Clisby McDonald Garland HB: Terlich Frawley Grimes C: Vince N.Jones Watts HF: Hogan Clark Howe F: Kent Dawes Fitzpatrick R: Jamar Cross Viney I: Trengove Tyson Michie S: M.Jones E: Gawn Toumpas Pick 9 There's many things I'm unhappy about in that line-up: Kicking skills in the back-line - need Watts to get back there as 7th defender, and also add a bit of height as needed Midfield is still 18th best altho we have closed the gap on 17th and the rest Forward line is top heavy - longer term Mitch should be 2nd ruck but not in R1 so Fitzy has to play to ruck, which really leaves us short one runner Jamar - who knows if he can still play at all, but for a winning R1 2014 line-up I'm unconvinced about the Gawn-Fitz combo I can't find a place for Dunn in the backline even though he played there most of 2013 and maybe that's being unfair on him. I don't think Toumpas is up to the pace yet but I hope he and pick 9 are very quickly. I've cut Michie some credit and included him unproven on the basis that we traded for him for a reason. Cannot have both Cross and McKenzie. That leaves 16 listed players unselected and they come with a variety of pedigrees and experience - 1st round draft picks, later picks, a whole bunch of RD picks and a couple of trades. Only 3 neophytes and one veteran - 12 players who should be in their best years: Byrnes, McKenzie, Dunn, Blease, Strauss, Pedersen, Magner, Nicholson, Evans, Barry, Tapscott, Jetta, Spencer, Taggert, Bail, Stark It would be no surprise if half of them are gone at the end of 2014 but equally it would be a big disappointment if Roos and co can't find at least 4 quality role players from that group to add to the above set. No doubt plenty of this will look laughable this time next year.

He ran away from everyone carrying and bouncing. Good agility too. Quick disposal. Would only be caught with the ball if he tried to do too much.

Dave's not here.

Within the realm of the possible it looks like a good outcome IMO. Who cares what Barrett thinks ; )

That's partly true, I don't really think it matters whether Hawthorn or North win the flag on the back of a McEvoy or Dal Santo NSM. The Saints list was going off a cliff, I think Pelchen has at least reduced the gradient. Bolstered the backline with Bruce and Delaney (as Machsy points out) Didn't necessarily lose anything in the ruck long-term with McEvoy for Longer and good picks. Their midfield is still better than ours with Montagna, Stevens, Hayes, Armitage, Ray and they've added some garnish with Savage They really need Stanley to come on behind Riewoldt. They've got picks 3, 18, 19 in a midfielders draft and that's where they need to make hay. There's obviously a harmony question with the coach but that's a separate issue from list management unless everyone decides they want out like they did at Brisbane.
