WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
rpfc replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Honestly, guys... Jack Viney is probably at school on his iPhone thinking "what the hell are they talking about!" "Tom Scully gets three threads a day, and my one thread hasn't gotten so off-track all you see is sparks and Tony Scott." "When are they going to get back on track - discuss my fathers kicking skills or my height?!" -
We had a HoA that we wouldn't mention it! Not worth a damn thing those things are...
-
That wasn't me having a go at those who think he is gone, that was me having go at Freak. And after we voted in 2008 - it is morally accepted, nay mandated, that we have a go at Freak. Kid's wrong a lot...
-
The mods can tell you it isn't me (IP address). I like my video links to be a bit more clever than that.
-
We joke about it, but Tom has effectively said what "Tom Scully" says above...
-
What's the point of a handshake? A verbal agreement? Stop signs?
-
Maybe Tom wouldn't sign it if it were so binding? Maybe this is all BS? Maybe, JFK was killed by a magic bullet?
-
Praying mantis. And yes I saw it, and yes he is not someone I would drink a beer with.
-
Hallelujah!! Tom's staying!! The anti-oracle has spoken!! What he says, so shall it ever not be. Amen.

I am a very pleasant person. And, Canberra's infrastrucutre is rich? That's rich... The place is tired and old, and the territory has no money for projects. The rental market is the worst in the country as there is little development to keep up with the modest population increases through students, and public servants. Outside of the public service and the servic industry that feeds the public service, there is no other market to attract people up here. Coz the weather ain't gonna get people to move up here... The population is not going to be big enough to support an AFL side with the Raiders and the Brumbies in existence. I can get you 30k members overnight. I cannot get you sponsors and corporate support. Not going to happen.
-
It seems to me that many on here see Tom as far more honest on the footy field than he is as a person. And that is an indictment on you, not him.
-
Pendles signed a 1 year contract - so he has ended the speculation... And one player manager said the CBA wouldn't be done until December. I would think there is an incentive for all parties to get it done - players like to get paid, the AFL likes to run a football league...
-
I'm sorry if I sound condescending but it is the height of naivete to think that Canberra can support an AFL side. There is no market for it. None. Raiders struggle. Brumbies own the place and they can't compete in the S15's. So, sorry, no 19th club up here.

If he has such impeccable sources then I question why they would say it. Gubby Allan is a conniving bastard of the highest order - he is brilliant. And these rumours are exactly what he wants floating around. It's designed to push the Melbourne footy club into a position to do something stupid like throwing down an ultimatum or constantly talking about loyalty (ala Mark Thompson last year). I have heard the same rumour as Maher but without knowing who his sources are I can't say they are impeccable. They are all whispers in the air to me.
-
Why? What would they say? The same thing they have always said - "we respect Tom and his management's decision to put off talks, we will resume them in due course." The club could only pour fuel by saying something. And since when does Andy Maher have the standing in our great game to demand a response from us?! This thread should be tacked on to the back of the 'Scully' thread, I don't want to drown in Scully threads.
-
I'm more driven to hate the idea because it is awful.
-
I would say that is a fair summation. The wild fluctuations can be seen in the KPIs - and whether it is youth (compounded due to injuries), leadership, mid-tier players, or poor coaching, it is the latter that will be held accountable one way or another in September.
-
Yes, it would be the most limited FA I can see. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. No one did? I like to give my opinions! It's my right!
-
Looking forward to it. Hopefully the weather is decent. We cannot seem to get decent weather for our big home games... Bulldogs last year, Carlton this year...
-
Yes, it is a problem. But that problem is not solved by making supporters endure that sheer, depressing irrelevance from round one... You may say that there are more meaningful matches toward the end of the season, and I would counter and say that the start of the season in Div 2 would contain irrelevant matches attended by not many fans because what is the point? "All I can hope for this year is an invitation to next year's Div 1 comp." That'll get the fans excited...
-
We are quickly reaching a paradox here. If a promotion/relegation game between Richmond and Melbourne is such a big game then there has to be an inherent gap between the top league and the bottom league. If there is such a gap, then how can clubs survive in such a league? All Friday, Sat night games will be Div 1 teams. The sponsors will go to the teams that have a chance to play in the 'real' league. And an 'injury riddled season' now becomes an 2 year project of irrelevance. Flag windows are cut in half. Revenue and membership fluctuates wildly. Not going to happen.

They get access to 4 kids they must trade. Simplified. -
I'll never take your crown, BB... The fact remains that this 'division' of the comp would have stopped a Geelong 2007 scenario. Poor Bobby Davis. This idea is designed to reduce irrelevant games, it doesn't achieve that at all - it increases them. Have two conferences if you want them but leave relegation to Eurpoean football leagues.
