  1. This was a 6 sentence press release on the website and one of the sentences is without a fullstop... If you think this is spin then you are past cynical and into cylindrical. They are just letting us know that temporary roles will be filled by two leaders.
  2. We will never fill the G against GWS or GC or Freo or WCE or PA. Geelong make money from these games. They make $700k from a game of 25k down at Skilled Stadium. We will never make that sort of money at the G against those teams. When we start winning - we will get 35k for those games at the G and not get near that figure. Playing in Casey against low drawing interstate teams not only cements this club in a growth corridor - it is also allows us to make a mint on games we currently make little to zero money from.
  3. We would get 20k out there tomorrow for an actual AFL game.
  4. They did. They parachuted in a CEO (we opened the retractable roof) and he will oversee the next 6 months. INCLUDING what we do with the coaching situation. This should also allow one's rational brain to reason that this Roos rumour is BS as I highly doubt that Jackson would have arranged this in such short order, or that the AFL would go over his head and interfere with his job. It's just a journalist throwing gasoline on a fire that he may get a kick out of 'blogging' and then 'tweeting' about but he isn't the one whose job is in the frame here. Mark Neeld may not be working out right now but he does not deserve this kind of crap, and nor does his family. Tony Sheahan should be ashamed of himself but I know he won't be and that is infuriating.
  5. What kind of loser tweets out their own blog entry about a BS rumour that everyone involved is going to deny? Just astonishing.
  6. Bugger the region we are trying to call our 'home away from home'? Some on here have got to think not 'what is in the best interests of AFL clubs in Melbourne, but 'what is in the best interest of the AFL club Melbourne.'
  7. F___ that. Keep it burning up front. Let's worry about ourselves, and let others deal with the logistics. This is $500k+ every game here. We are not trying to get the best deal for the AFL teams in Melbourne - we are trying to get the best deal for ourselves.
  8. You watch the litany of people that will deny this. It will be a parade. A massive depressing parade of people washing their hands of this story. Roos will probably address it this Monday in a jovial fashion that will make me just puke.
  9. Just BS. We have had our current CEO for a week and already we are this far into discussions with Roos via the AFL?
  10. This is some f___ers blog talking about a rumour that makes this club look like an AFL puppet. Mark this one down as BS.
  11. I agree completely. There is a prevailing mood that Neeld should be turfed right now because some players have issues with him. Sack him for real reasons - we owe him that much.
  12. If it's a 'clean' stadium (owned by the AFL or the council or us) then the breakeven point would be hit during VFL-level attendance...
  13. A great deal of energy and resources and pressure should be spent/exerted in this effort. I hope Jackson agrees and we hire a CEO that pushes the idea.
  14. Moving aside the argument over where Frawley stands in the team - my point remains that not only should we not be kowtowing to particular players over the coach, but we do not even know whether those players have issues with the coach or that removal of the coach would have a net benefit or deficit with player illusionment. As I have said before and you took great issue with - it is a big 'if.' We just do not know whether Neeld's immediate exit would be better for player retention or worse. I don't want to lose Frawley and I think he is a very good FB. But he isn't Chris Paul/Peyton Manning/Gary Ablett. He should not be directly, or indirectly, making determinations over the fate of the coach.
  15. I think that the 'thinking' is that if you put Clark and Grimes on the LTI it makes it certain that they cannot play for 8 weeks. I really think that this FD is overthinking things and trying to be too smart. Magner is no world beater but he should play this week, and he should have been playing from the start of the year.
  16. This is an old article, TD. We have previously discussed this. With that said - I will repeat: I don't care if isn't feasible and shoudn't be done. Let's sell it and worry about logistics later. This would be the thing that allows us to thrive. We would turn breakeven games at the G against interstate teams into $500k games in an area we are trying to convince to be financial members of the club. We could build a social club out there and for those that don't want us to have pokies - having a boutique stadium to mirror what Geelong has is the only feasible option.
  17. Give me an argument he is better than those five. He would be lower if we were talking about 'most important.' I am not the one making ultimatums here, and neither is James. You are making them on his behalf and I don't think he would appreciate the excuse for his form you are tacitly giving him as I know he is a proud individual. You can dress it up how you like but you don't know whether getting rid of Neeld will help or hinder player retention (or whether it will matter at all).
  18. No, I mean that players know what to do but cannot do it because they are bereft of confidence in themselves and each other. The 'buck' stops at the coach but don't go around thinking like some on here that the inert style of play we devolve into at the first sign of pressure is intended. It isn't. The players just cannot sustain a level of belief in themselves for long periods to take the game on and risk failure to attempt success. They retreat into their shells and don't run, they worry too much about what 'their' bloke is doing, and not enough about what they and their team-mates are doing. And when you have enough players only worried about 'their' man, 'their' team is going to lose.
  19. I choose life, Jaded. I choose life. Honestly, I didn't know that it was a matter of Neeld not being sacked and us losing Frawley. Because, you are right, when it comes to the crunch you should always attempt to keep your 6th best player (Clark, Jones, Viney, Howe, McDonald) happy even if it means firing the coach.
  20. It's on Neeld. Of that I am not passing the buck, but some are of the opinion that this restricted, slow style of play is instruction or intention and it isn't.
  21. I thought the CEO ran the club? But other people can be 'grandfathered' into the decision making process and bypass the CEO?
  22. You are right about the UP being the most important. They are. Run and spread is the foundation of the game today. Now we don't do that and while it is on Neeld to foster the confidence in players to run and carry the footy - it would be a tenet in his gameplan. Because it is in everyone's gameplan. We are not running into space and working hard enough, but it is not by instruction or intention. The players are just in their shells, and they have retreated there since 2008 - with the occasional trip outside the shell from time to time...
  23. That's not the draft, that was FA or the PSD. I know players can stipulate terms in those instances, but not in the nat draft. And I am pretty sure there is a mandatory 2-year contract for kids in the National Draft.
  24. Like Schwab would do that crap! He is the one who's notes have allowed this criticism to be withdrawn as we told the AFL in an earlier meeting. Let him be.
  25. What is your definiton of 'soon' in terms of time? Whether we move on in May or in July is not going to make a difference to what coaches are out there in the market. And the implications for personnel retention is a double edged sword - we are all assuming that a Neeld-less MFC will have a better time keeping our oh-so-great list together. But what if the decision to move to 4 months of caretaker leads to more player disillusionment? I really don't think there is a 'good plan' for removing your coach but I do think there are plenty of 'bad plans' - caretaker for 4 months is a ground I fear to tread. I don't want that at all.
