  1. With Rivers, Hibbo, Hunt, Bowey and Gus we have a surplus of medium defenders. I also think Smith's foot skills look worse in the backline. The footy IQ will always be an issue for him, but i'd trust him to tag a rebounder and cut off some oppo run while being a tricky match up. I just don't see any other 2nd tall option that is viable currently, if we have 1 to many smalls, Browny has no back up or support. If we include Weid or JVR, i don't think they have the mobility or tank to play foil properly.
  2. In: Petty, Oliver Out: Tommo, Bedford Tommo played great but Petty is better. Bedford had little impact and i like Melk playing the lockdown role at HF. He can take a tall to help Brown, prevent some rebound and has neat disposal entering inside 50. Additionally, i think 1 goal, 7 tackles, some score involvements/assists deserves a reward. We should trust Melk a little after seeing how well Hibbo is playing currently.
  3. I think the medium tall in Melk is actually the answer. Melk can play a role to shut down a 2nd or 3rd tall/rebounder and is mobile enough around ground, and big enough to contest for marks. His kicking is also an asset entering inside 50. Honestly we miss another quality medium tall like another Bayley or a fit Joel Smith who can play a defensive role up forward. JVR is too fresh and Weid doesn't contest hard enough, has average field kicking and poor mobility
  4. Woe to those who underestimate our opposition Collingwood are in ripper form currently, they are quick, hunt the ball and have class across the ground. McCrae is a good coach and their ability to win tight games is very good. Geelong are also in very good nick but historically cant get over the line. Even with their vets slowing down, they managed to pummel us at the contest and will be full of energy come finals time.
  5. Agree with both sides The individual incidents look very greedy and are not team first However, overall Bayley is a great team first player who not only kicks most of our goals, he also sets up plenty of them too
  6. As goody said, there is nobody who can replace Clayton Oliver. Our best mids will share the load between each other to compensate.
  7. Our best mids are already in the team. Chandler is too small to play half forward and Harmes and sparrow are better quality players than Dunstan. Therefore, Melk to half forward. Harmes and sparrow with more midfield minutes.
  8. I think it's a 80% chance we receive the short end of the stick here. People want a young star in return for a young star bc they're bitter but it wont work like that.
  9. Rory Lobb and a top 8 first rounder please
  10. Disagree with most here on this. Always protect the player going for the ball. If you go low to get the ball and are caught high, it's a free. Dropping the knees, to get the ball should not be punishable. Umpires also can and do distinguish between actual frees and baited frees. Umps will not pay high tackles if a player raises his arm so it clips his shoulder.
  11. Our win against Brisbane has not aged well Not a fan of having losses to no 1,3, 5 and 6 either
  12. Go dees go nibbs Still in this, just
  13. Traccaaaa 🔥
  14. Being tackled after a duck just has to be holding the ball
  15. Back to basics We got away with breaking through tackles against brissy but it's not the go tonight
  16. Geelong putting pressure on every possession
  17. A couple good marks before and a nice goal early for Browny!!
  18. Go dees I always rate a collared guernsey though
  19. In a season where our talls have been injured, suspended and smacked around. Weid (and our other 2nd string talls) have stood up to keep the team afloat. He is similar to Tomlinson, high draft pick, probably has little development left but can fill a spot and is reliable and consistent when called up. I'd love for him to be kicking bags, clunking marks and roaming the f50 but if his career ends up being apart of the supporting cast in the best team in the league, that's not too bad.
  20. MrFreeze replied to Tracca's topic in Melbourne Demons
He also gave a cheap coat hanger on the weekend that led to a free kick, similar to his VFL suspension. Very important for our structure, but definitely needs to work on some things.
  21. Really enjoyed that. Tough, gutsy win. Battled injury, umpires and a tough Adelaide team. Go Dees.
  22. Point proven but Cameron is clearly an outlier, Gunston is closer to the rule
  23. For sure, balance between short term and long term is hard here. Imo B Brown was the forward vet pick up for our cup window and I wouldn't over commit further than that.
  24. While i don't think Guston fits the category, i agree that crafty veteran players can make an impact. However, lets say Jackson leaves and we pick up Gunston. In 3-5 years time Gunston, B Brown, M Brown, TMAC all are retired/delisted. We then have Weid and V Roo as our talls. Not good.
