Nup Big Head, just ask those at Richmond!

Just in regards to those saying McCartin is only an old-school key forward, I highly recommend reading the following from the AFL website's going places. SORRY to push the point Demonlanders and I know many on this site don't rate my opinions at all but I gotta say McCartin is not just an old time stay at home forward as this article, already posted suggests. Of all the other TALLS mentioned, none really come close to McCartin in terms of Mongrel, Pack Marking and potentiality to become another Tom Hawkins (who he bases his game around). Consider this, If Hogan has further injury issues do we really want to go with another forward line containing Jack Fitz and Pedo? Nar lets go with some forward firepower which has the potentiality of Dawes, Hogan, McCartin! Throw in Howe as another option and Garlett and it suddenly becomes highly potent! The mids are sorting out nicely lets get a bit of old fashion brute strength and mongrel in, eh.

Ah careful, Stef Martin got a high enter! Try saying recruiting a player with 1/10th Stef Martins IQ and you will be closer to the truth!

Nup Nup Nup !! Even though I did entertain the idea Nup !
-
Ah yeah, but as you grow older the first ramifications are still none the less significant!!

Hnmm interesting Dazzle man, tell me more about him!?

This thread reminds me of the romanticism of that first pash at 14 Great while it lasted but all over too soon. As much as I would like to see this play out to a universally great finish for the MFC and JT I'm calling it !! Finished, Unfortunately!

Nup, assuming the aints take Petracca, its gotta be Brayshaw at 2 and Mc Cartin at 3 I am an universally regarded as an "Astute" judge am I not ?? After all I did pick Ollie Wines !!

Irreverent, Irrelevant, indelible, implausible, iridescent, illuminating, infuriating, infatuating, yep all of these, but I am above and beyond the irrepressible "Picket Fence" -

Give me a break part 2 This bloke took on the job, he thought he had the goods and he was found to be an absolute shocker. In fact he may go down as the worst coach ever of the MFC. As much as I think Lyon and others stuffed up in recommending him, this bloke thought he was God's gift to coaching! Ask some of the players about his people management!! It was very poor indeed ! Nup don't paint him as anything else than a woulda, shoulda, coulda!! Our gain at not having him around is exquisitely Essendopes further sinking into the Abyss! love it! -

From Paige Cardona's recent Phantom Draft: A player of Patrick McCartins standing is unlikely to slip past Melbournes compensation pick here at pick three, and there are plenty of reasons why. Touted as the number one pick for the majority of the year, McCartin could be the perfect partner in crime alongside Jesse Hogan, laying the foundations for the Demons forward line for the next decade. McCartin is a genuine, old-fashioned full forward. He busts through packs, takes big contested grabs, inspires with his courage and is always the source of headaches for the opposition. He likes to treat opposition players as if he were going ten pin bowling: he has no regard for his own safety, and his aggression and physicality goes unmatched. McCartin relishes body-on-body contact, and is near unbeatable nor moveable one-on-one. He loves to drag his opponent to the goal square where he puts his contested marking ability to full use, but his quick turn of foot and smart leading patterns means that he is a focal target up forward, capable of taking any oppositions best defender. Hampered by small injuries throughout the year, McCartin hasnt gotten the love or hype he deserves, which is great news for Melbourne fans. Seems like he would complement Hogan really well too with Hogan being more of a mobile CHF type and McCartin as an inside 50 player. I like this appraisal a lot. In analysing our situation, we DESPERATELY need another KPF. However, having said that I would like to hope that the following scenarios might play out. So according to this appraisal I would definitely do the following If St. Kilda take Mc Cartin at pick one then we must take both Petracca and Brayshaw with picks 2,3. I wouldn't take any other of the talls mooted at 2 or 3 because in my view Mc Cartin is the standout. No one else comes close. If this situation occurs then I would take the best available KPF at pick 40 If St; Kilda take Petracca then we take Brayshaw and then Mc Cartin. Win Win

One other thing, I notice JUICE'S name has come up and if my mail is correct, a couple of clubs are considering him with a late draft pick and why not? 55 odd goals and premiership player with Norwood this year and at 27, would be a good pick up!

Good move on, neither up to it!

Yep and yep again, for Christ sakes we were happy to trade him of!!! You do gooders forget 50 years of bugger all and we want to play "all warm and friendlies" Time to ask yourselves, what do we want this club to be??
-
I'll go so far as to say this game will be the MOST defining game of our season. Win and we set up for the year LOSE and well I don't really want to contemplate it. WE SIMPLY MUST WIN THIS FIRST UP VERY WINNABLE GAME
-
What I'm struggling to understand is the football departments stance that they would support him BEYOND 2015! Think about it he wouldn't have played potentially for nearly 2 full seasons and the fact that we would even consider him beyond 2015 is staggering. We are not and should not be throwing away good money on the possibility and a big possibility that he will not come up. To look at extending his contract beyond 2015 is tantamount to very risky list management. Remember, we were quite happy to let him go to Richmond not two weeks ago. Very very risky!

Heard a whisper, some dissention in the camp over who should be number 1 draft pick might have been the straw that has broken the camels' back!
-
Something I agree with Dazzle man. However, I'll never forget the pivotal semi final vs St Up themselves and Brock Mc Lean played a magnificent, gutsy spirited game! You have to think with his lack of speed that it's all over!
-
I think we MUST take Mc Cartin if available! My rationale is if, IF Jesse Hogan has further fitness issues we simply cannot ignore our need for more forward firepower> Even if Hogan is ready to go it means we have Hogan, Dawes, Mc Cartin AND potentially Howe returning as a Forward! Should give plenty of teams massive headaches.!!! With the other draft either Brayshaw Or Petraca depending on who goes at No 1. If Mc Cartin goes first , Pick BOTH mids and hope there's a smoky forward around pick 40 That's my take!

Agree with all you have said, but I reckon a solid "B" is a fair assessment

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

Some of these have the height and or weight advantage Ballantyne at 174 is still a solid 79/80 kgs Gunstan at 191 has better height. Of the rest you have mentioned they are not dissimilar in height and weight to Stretch and it will be interesting to see if he can match for pace the rest of those who you have mentioned. -
