  1. Whilst the ladder says we're in the hunt for finals right now, If we drop this game, it will be absolutely season over and players that need any surgeries should be operated on now in order to for this club to have its best pre season in its history, to make up for one of its worst just gone. And West Coast will unfortunately come in with natural response after one of its regulation stinkers that they so often dish up. However, if we bring in Goody's favourite two words - contest and defence, have a healthy quarter time lead and go at least 50% accuracy then we should win this game with no issues.
  2. Hopefully this is the catalyst for the club to say goodbye to Alice Springs once the contract is up, and play that 11th home game at Marvel. Yes, you read that correctly. I'd rather play a home game at Marvel than Alice. Yeah that's a fair point. We were at out lowest ebb and the AFL did all they could to get us to a minimum standard AFL professional organisation.
  3. Form your observations is Petty any chance of getting up this weekend? As maligned as he's been this year, he's turned a bit of a corner the last 2 weeks.
  4. The fact that we've been outscored a combined 54-5 in our last 2 final quarters (V North and Lions) played would probably indicate that our fitness isn't "state of the art" at the moment. And whilst our supporters are citing that we have a lot of young players in the team as an excuse, why is it that Hawthorn, who the media keep telling us are a young/rebuilding team, are running games out beautifully - whether it be putting bottom teams to the sword in the second half, or holding on in the last quarter against contending sides.
  5. That's great news. Perhaps a return to Casey this week for limited minutes, full VFL game the weekend after and then a return for the Freo game??
  6. As much as it hurts to be as low as 12th, we could be back in the 8 in 2 weeks if we can knock off WC (likely) and then Essendon (possibly). Destiny still very much in our hands and we play the likes of Essendon, Bulldogs, GWS, Port and GC who are all fighting for that 7th-8th spot. Going to (hopefully??) be some very uplifting and exciting wins for the MFC on the run home.
  7. Used to think the former for years. Now I’m leaning towards the latter. That said, I think he was missed on Friday night, and as recently as the North game he took a couple of courageous marks and provided an important defensive one on one win at the punt road end.
  8. If we’re any solid chance of finals we’re going to realistically need to win by 10 goals and get our percentage to 105. Our percentage isn’t viable at the moment. Whether we can put the foot on the throat for 4 quarters is questionable.
  9. Back in round 2, if someone said to you outside the MCG after the game that Hawthorn would be equal on wins with Melbourne at round 16, you would’ve called the police on them.
  10. Port supporters are genuinely heart broken they won. Put in an awful performance, but at the same time affording Hinkley a stay of execution.
  11. Aside from GWS, this weekend has been a genuinely awful weekend in terms of results not going our way. Hopefully St Kilda eek out a win here and West Coast handle Hawthorn.
  12. Port Adelaide supporters legitimately want to lose today just so they’re one step closer to sacking Ken.
  13. Yesterday we went 1/5 in terms of results going our way. Fremantle’s shock win over Sydney was absolutely pointless for us. Although we could possibly overtake Essendon or Collingwood after round 18 if we win the next two, which was the benefit of those 2 clubs losing yesterday. Hopefully St Kilda do us a favour today.
  14. Absolutely it’s more beneficial Essendon win tonight. And hating Essendon is so early 2000’s. I would’ve thought Collingwood and Carlton are far more “hateable”…
  15. Any chance Moore can go a game without kneeing an opponent?
  16. Our last 2 final quarters in respect of the North and Brisbane games. Us: 0.4.4 Oppo: 8.6.54 I think Selwyn Griffths needs to explain himself.
  17. Clearly it's imperative that Essendon, Adelaide, St Kilda, Collingwood, North, West Coast and Sydney win. There is a path for us to be in the 8 after next weekend, despite losing tonight, but a lot of results would need to go our way.
  18. Viney is having his worst season in years. Sure he was excellent last week, but he’s otherwise been way down on what he’s capable of.
  19. Hoping to put in our best performance since the St Kilda game and keep the margin very respectable. A win is unlikely for a number of reasons. However, win next week and there’s a scenario or two that would have us in the 8 at the end of round 17, or at the very least on the borderline.
  20. On a serious note Goodwin couldn’t have been any less effusive of Brown’s prospects of getting a game this week when asked in his mid week presser so it’s not a surprise in the slightest he was dropped.
  21. Our coach clearly deemed that Kynan didn’t have enough impact in his 3 minutes of game time (despite getting 3 less fantasy points than Fritsch’s in his 120 minutes)
  22. FWIW Melskham should be a lock in the side after 1-2 games in the VFL provided he has adequate AFL standard fitness. I don't care if he's 35 or whatever, the club still needs to put out a competitive product week to week, and Melk will surely assist here. Our forward line is crying out for natural forwards. With all due respect to Petty and Turner, they are not natural forwards while our most natural forward is way off the boil atm. Hence we're battling to kick 70 points against the Norths and West Coasts of the league.
  23. OMG, it sounds as though we actually did a good last weekend.
  24. The boys on Foxtel’s Midweek Tackle mentioned the following: 1) Fritsch is so close to getting dropped it isn’t funny, but will probably get one last chance. 2) Stunned that we’re now fielding one of the youngest sides in the league.
  25. I think our treatment of Tomlinson has been pretty ordinary post 2021, and he's always the first to be dropped at the drop of a hat. None more so than his MFC career best game against Collingwood in 2023. Even against Sydney in Op Rd, he was far from our worse but got omitted. Not a crime against humanity by the MFC, as every club has an unlucky player, but he's pretty stiff overall and will get dropped for Lever this week IMO. Having said that all that, he'd be a useful chip in a hypothetical mid season trade period. We could trade him to a club short of KP defenders in exchange for their surplus of tall and small forwards or resting rucks.
