This is absolutely brilliant news. Another round of footy and a potential holiday in Sydney to watch up to 9 games a footy. What more do you want?
-
If all those shenanigans occurred, I'd hope Jackson put his home sickness aside, returns to the MFC and tells the two WA clubs to shove it. But neither the scenario you posted will occur nor will Jackson ever return to VIC. There is a reason we're after Grundy and it's up to us to get the best possible deal for us, which at the moment is looking like Freo's first round pick and future first rounder.
-
Nothing much to be gained here. We lose one of our rare players with pace. We lose a player who is in the top 5 accurate set shots for goal at the club (we all know how much our forwards aside from Fristch let us down through out the year in the accuracy department) We lose 120 odd games of experience which affects our depth. We gain a mediocre draft pick which we might not even use. Wish him well though.
-
But others have certainly coined the term “generational talent” with Jackson. That’s fair enough but I think it’s too early to make the assumption. As for his GF performance, yes he played a very good last few minutes of the third quarter. No debate there.
-
Cornes clearly knows something. He wants a long and successful career in the media and he won’t last long in the caper if he’s flat out making stuff up. There’s no way though that Port can satisfy our trade demands given he’s under contract and we’ll be asking for some serious compo. If Kozzy is unsettled then we have a heck of a job next year of retaining him after 2023. Our forward line would be so bland and meh without him.
-
I agree with this comment. A generational talent is someone in the mould of Wayne Carey, Gary Ablett (senior or junior), Greg Williams, Chris Judd or Tony Lockett. In Carey’s 21st year (same age as LJ) he kicked 46 goals and won North’s best and fairest. In the following year Carey took the AFL by storm by kicking 63 goals and being appointed the All Australian captain. Meanwhile Jackson is still finding his way in this league and finished a generous 13th in the B&F. Do people honestly think that Jackson is going to obtain the lengthy achievements that the other players mentioned above did? Is he really going to be a generational talent?
-
So does Aidan Riley....
-
Exactly. Posters needs to remember that he's out of contract and we basically have to accept what ever reasonable rather than generous offer that comes our way. Two mid first rounders and a second or third rounder will be our recompense for Jackson IMO. North on the other hand can ask for the world as JHF is under contract and the club has no obligation to to trade him.

Yes, one of them against us at the G in late 2021. Played well that night. -
Adem Yze to North next year if Clarkson's career goes down the toilet? Sounds like he's so close to a senior gig he can touch it. Although I'm not sure if the MFC would be willing to let him go so late in the piece.

Reminds me so much of Weideman in terms of their AFL journey. All the natural talent in the world (he's a beautiful kick) but can't put it together in the seniors for multiple weeks. He did play an excellent game as a defender against us in one those COVID lock down games in 2021 so perhaps the club has a long memory. -
That counter offer will get turned down by Freo in 5 seconds. No chance Freo are offering Young as he just signed through to 2027 and is a key piece to their future success. No chance Young would agree to a trade considering he's chosen to stay in Perth and the league is not yet at a stage where clubs are willing to trade contracted players against their will. Assuming he gets to Freo, it will be this years first rounder, next year's first rounder and a current or future second or third rounder IMO.
-
Harmes now looking elsewhere. Possibly Essendon.
-
I assume not Grundy. Otherwise why would we be trading for him?
-
Robbie Gray's also about 15 years older than Grundy.
-
I was thinking that too. However If he's that home sick and absolutely must return to WA (which he must be if he's quitting the club he won a flag at) and a trade can't be arranged then I think there's more chance he sits out a year of footy then comes back to the MFC. I'm sure a trade will be arranged though even if we have to accept unders. He's out of contract so we don't hold the whip hand. If he was under contract then we could ask for overs.

A pick in the low 20’s is fair for a multiple all Australian.

The round 20 2005 and round 12 2015 road trips to Geelong. In the 2005 game we had lost 7 in a row after being in the top 2 mid season. We were heading towards one of our worst collapses in history, and were expected to lose this one in hostile territory. Being 6 goals down half way through the game didn’t help matters. However we played a scintillating third quarter and Robbo played the game of his life with 7 goals. we survived a Matt Egan shot after the siren to win an epic by 1 point. The following week Jeff White nailed a set shot with 10 seconds left to beat the Dogs and then in the last round Travis Johnstone kicked the sealer to beat Essendon by 10 points and sneak into the finals. We lost badly to Geelong in the elim final. The 2015 was just an unbelievable win and the making of M Gawn. I went down to this game purely in hope that we wouldn’t embarrass ourselves and we basically stood no chance as we were in just year 2 of the Roos rebuild against the all conquering Geelong. We’d also come off a Leigh Montagna goal with 5 seconds left to lose a heartbreaker the week before at Marvel. The win was just unbelievable considering it was Enright’s 300th and we had a fair few maligned and/or VFL standard players such as Dawes, Toumpas, Matt Jones, Spencer and Aidan Riley in the side. The round 23 2021 game would’ve topped the other two but ofcourse we couldn’t attend.

Top 5 draft pick at a minimum when you consider he was pick 12, and then add in back to back 40 goals seasons from a 21 year old.
-
Anyone that kicks 40 goals in the NAB Under 18's league should be of severe interest.
-
Agreed. His goal kicking accuracy from 45+ metres was his point of difference and he also managed a very impressive 31.12 between 2019 and 2020 with regards to accuracy. Will always be remembered for nailing that game winning set shot from outside 50 against Carlton in 2019. West Coast should think about playing him at times as a forward and certainly away from the lock down small defender role.
-
Agreed. I seriously doubt Hunt was drafted with the future view of taking on the Tom Papley's of the league. I don't think the lockdown role suited him as opposed to Hibberd who was born to play that role (albeit not well in the Brisbane semi)
-
Collingwood supporters at my work don't just think they would've gotten close. Collingwood supporters at my work thing they would've beaten Geelong, .....just Coz they led Geelong at times during the qualifying final. Solid theory.

Brisbane are instantly better with the acquisition of Dunkley (reigning best and fairest and in the prime of his career ) and a champion goal kicker in Gunstan (with the proviso he's healthy).
