  1. JV alone is not the answer but if you let him go there is a huge void to fill. The way he attacks opposition can really motor our pressure, often you'll see if he's up and about tackling and harassing like a mad man the whole team follows suit. I didn't see that once from Melksham this season, it's an indictment that he never got dropped. I've seen Petracca steadily increase his instruction giving and overall leadership in the last 12 months. Here's hoping he continues on this trajectory because he's a player that would inspire through on field actions, which Max lacks in my opinion.
  2. Melksham was pathetic this season, Vandenberg was in and out of the team, and the jury is still out on Gawn as captain in my opinion. We're pretty thin in the leadership department if you ask me, Viney has it in spades... agree with the OP
  3. Yep. Would be very surprised if he landed anywhere other than Carlton. Need Tomlinson to get in his ear
  4. Understood, it's a different set of circumstances. I'm making a point of people are so quick to say sack him without knowing all of the details, and it is a huge double standard to have that attitude towards Harley and not Spargo, Kozzie, and to a lesser extent May last year. I for one hope we support Harley and don't abandon him, he's had troubled life and I'd like to hope we get around him and give him an opportunity to repay the faith we've put in him. Would be a shame for it to end like this
  5. May went drinking last season when he was injured. Did people call for him to be sacked? No. Yes it's a mistake, a covid breach and a costly on at that. He's been isolated in the hub without being selected for a number of weeks, not saying what he did was ok but he shouldn't be crucified either.
  6. Why are we getting our legs taken time and time again? Have they forgotten this rule???
  7. Any danger of getting a high [censored] tackle???

That's a fair contention and one that seems to be widely shared. I think I'm in the minority that believes Crouch doesn't offer an identical skillset to those players you've mentioned. He's pretty quick and a good ball user, can't have enough quality mids to rotate through in my opinion
  9. Got it. Out of curiosity do you have any names you would target as assistants for next season?
  10. Agree to disagree. The list isn't all that different from two seasons ago and without looking I would say the stats you've referenced would have looked way better that season. Don't think our current plight is an individual talent issue, more the system.
  11. I went out of my way to ensure I said he would be useful in 'some capacity' to avoid your interpretation. Good for a laugh though
  12. Made consecutive prelims and had a career W/L over 50%. Given I'm of the opinion that our current list is far superior talent wise to those teams he coached, that's a solid effort.
  13. No arguments from me. Wouldn't mind targeting Brad Scott in some capacity, we talk about being ruthless... he's the man for that. Had that North team over achieving for a long period of time.
  14. Sickening isn't it
  15. RedFox replied to RedFox's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's a fair statement. From my perspective his skillset is not surplus to our needs, I've seen him play pretty well on the outside with his run and skills, I don't think ability to win your own ball and being a pure inside mid are mutually exclusive
  16. I agree but it's a pretty lame attitude to have towards your number one stakeholder, the supporters. Cochrane from Gold Coast brilliant in the regard

Don't forget we were not linked to May until late in the piece as well, doesn't really mean much at this point. Money talks and if we offered enough he'd take it
  18. Apologies, I forgot about that game. Unfortunately the only memory I have against West Coast in 2018 is having our pants pulled down on national TV under the pressure of a preliminary final. Our game style gets shredded with an ounce of opposition pressure
  19. The alarming aspect for me was Pert highlighting 'great wins' this season against Hawthorn and Collingwood. Hawthorn are in full blown rebuild mode, and Collingwood had 3 or 4 of their top 6 players out. We've beaten no great teams in Goodwins entire reign as coach, Geelong EF 2018 were just average, Hawthorn the week after the same. Any time we play a premiership contender like Richmond, WCE or a full strength pies we get smashed.
  20. We are currently in phase two of the project to build a home base within the MCG precinct. He didn't go into specifics regarding exact locations or time frames for when this will be achieved. He gave the impression that this project was well down the track and was progressing quickly. Imagine the impact of the pandemic will slow this process down while we pick up the pieces of the hit to the soft cap and balance sheet. At least we know we are going for a location that is synonymous with this club rather than a Casey or somewhere away from the soul of the club, the MCG/MCC.
  21. Straight bat. As usual, no accountability regarding our on field performance this season. With the exception of the update regarding a home base, I feel worse after listening to that.
  22. I think it's partly because of how much better our midfield has operated when he's not been in there attacking the pill like a mad man. They just look more organised without that chaos. Agree that he's heart and soul, and we all love his aggressive intent, but it is hard to argue that he upsets the balance of our midfield. I don't think we can play Viney, Oliver and Trac in there at the same time. Brayshaw actually positions himself well better than the others at the stoppages so I don't like the idea of him going.

He seems like a pretty well rounded midfielder rather than just see ball get ball on the inside. Gets just as many uncontested possessions as contested. Think he'd be handy if fit
  24. RedFox posted a topic in Melbourne Demons
Unsure if his name has been mentioned but a pretty classy midfielder when up and running. Yes, durability concerns but would back burgess to get him going. Feel like we are at least one quality mid short in there for when Trac rests forward, for example. Thoughts? Queries? Concerns?
  25. Upgrade on Baker and ANB. Would offer a point of difference to our one paced midfield. Langdon on one wing and Narkle on the other. Tomlinson permanent defender. Yes from me
