  1. All good !! You're totally right tho thats how rumours start or things get remembered differently. Even now there's a suggestion he liked the Pies facilities better than Melbourne but at that point he hadnt even seen them (or any point). More likely, he was just wearing his heart on his sleeve. I personally dont fault him for that.
  2. Check the tapes. "Aaaah, like them better than melbourne, thats for sure" pretty clearly said. Moot point, but it was a reflection on his feelings, not an appraisal of the clubs. Having said that, both are probably true sadly.
  3. For context and comparison. Pies gave up Adam Treloar and pick 26, 33 and 42 for 14 and a later 2nd rounder. Basically the pick points value evened themselves out. Pies were rumoured to be paying 1/3 of his 900k salary. He was most definitely a stronger midfielder than what Oliver is now. I could see a deal be pretty similar. Actually turned out alright for both clubs.
  4. Yea, its better to say nothing than being honest eh. One minute he's contracted and then next minute he's being pretty aggressively pushed out the door. Of course hes going to like anyone better than Melbourne. He's upset, angry and yes, tried to be a smart alec. Just as childish to get triggered by an honest comment really. Im not a huge fan of his generally (he had many years to rectify his total lack of care with the football by foot) but I also get bemused by the hypocrisy around these parts who say mental health is a very important thing and how we all care about it but then takes the slightest comment to send folks into online rage at players. The guy is human and whilst not blameless doesnt deserve all of this nastiness. Seeing the same thing with Judd.
  5. 3 first rounders in '25 '26 and '27. Sorry wasnt clear. If we dont get Flanders and say pick 6, its the closest we could hope from the Crows if he nominates them.
  6. I really dont mind the idea of Adelaide's first 3 draft picks 25, 26 and 27. I know we say we want a player but were going to get junk if its not Sam F. That's not helping. Assuming Crows average 5th over the next 3 years, that equivalent of pick 6 and 8 Cameron went for 3 first rounders so maybe we need to kick back a 2nd rounder. Having that draft capital in addition to our own if we do stay in the bottom 8 will make us be able to get to the real pointy end of upcoming compromised drafts. Not to mention a 2 yr death ride sounds like an awful lot of fun.
  7. He and Bont are so far in front of the league for score involvements over the past 5 years. Its literally daylight to 3rd. He had the worst year of kicking in his career and still got 16 votes and top 10 for score involvements per game. Even the slightest regression to the mean (which is a certainty according to me) on his kicking will see him be an elite player again, at least for 2 more years. Sure he isnt the player that you necessarily need to make finals, but he is the player you need to make top 2 and win a GF. I think its a huge loss that will take years to recover from. I hope Im horribly wrong.
  8. Yes I'm making the distinction between his case and Trac for instance. Both are keen to explore new lands but precisely because McVee is out of contract, our bargaining power is diminished. Long term contracts do actually have value.
  9. Wait what? Trac opened the door to Maynard at Brayshaw's as part of Flowergate!?!!! This thread has officially jumped the shark! Love it!!!
  10. So for all the talk of the meaningless-ness (new word i just made up) of long term contracts, this is exactly why they have merit. It provides clubs with options (for the cost of a salary cap that has to be paid anyway) when players want to jump ship. Its got nothing to do with loyalty.
  11. He'll have to take a pay cut I reckon to get a deal with Crows over the line. Cant see them taking on his full wage and give up the required capital.
  12. If the club is serious he will end up at West Coast. Im all in for players exercising their rights, but the club should exercise theirs. Pick 29 (if we get that!) drifting to late 30s in a weak draft is as good as useless. What's more valuable is to make a statement that you're welcome to faff around with contracts and demands but its a double edge sword. WCE, you can have him for year's pick 19 Or your future 2nd round. I see no reason why to help facilitate a trade to get him to freo. The club has paid him his dues. Wce would be mad not to accept that.
  13. If he ever plays another GF, I'd sub Bailey Smith off with 4 mins to go in the 3rd quarter. He's currently 38 to 145 from that point.
  14. So what exactly is going on here? My read is he has held off siigning without some assurances he gets more minutes further up the ground? Is that it? This speaks straight to recent Goodwin 'reflections' players chased stats, and accolades without a common team purpose. We've already made that mistake with Petty I suspect. I've been McVee's biggest fan from day 1 and his first handball (you can check the tapes). Ive called for him to be in the middle for 3 years BUT l agree with a few here that at the end of last year's trial, he looked totally lost. Now maybe he needs to train with the mids, maybe he wants his role to change into a high half back? But we already have Bowey who is a much more penetrating, deeper and flatter kick. Not everyone can play up the field. Bringing in AMW is fine but a backline with McVee, Bowey and AMW is way too short for afl level imo, especially if Rivers also deserves time up the ground. Generally speaking, the way its looking its going to be a miracle for us to make finals next year. We have question marks on half our players right now, either off field movement or on field ability. Its like that cafeteria scene from spiderman where all the items are up in the air what are the chances they all land up correctly.
  15. Reading between the lines, my interpretation is he realises now the tail began to wag the dog and he didnt address it. It became a culture of me... and im pretty sure hes talking about the players.
  16. He verbally abused the umpire that day. Ump has pubically acknowledged thats why he didnt get votes. It was a shame cause Wanganeen won that year with 19 votes from a back pocket. The real crime is God didnt win it with 124 goals in 17 games. That nearly 2 goals a quarter.
  17. Assuming they both stay (hoping), hard decisions with our midfield. Imo viney should be a full time tagger on the oppositions best mid. (Some mids would legit have sleepless nights. That is his edge. Use it) Playing Trac forward is fine in theory but when on ball (and if kicks back at his average) he is a top 10 player in the comp. He's too dynamic to be sitting inside 50, 40 minutes a game. Oliver was regaining his touch in the final part of the season. He's too good to be on a flank. Hard puzzle to solve. Guys like Rivers and Pickett are legit 3 vote match winners when they play midfield. Last 2-3 years of list management and coaching has quite messed this up sadly.
  18. What I dont understand is everyone realises there is a crazy bias towards mids. It was obvious last year when one player had twice as many votes as every other except one. But yet they again sit down and give 3 votes to mids for 16 touches. I'm almost certain this is being rigged for betting purposes.
  19. Agree. If thats what he wants (and id be okay with it sure why not) then its a lot about X and Os. Accordingly, if we line up with jvr and petty in the fwd line round 1, we really shouldnt expect 2026 to be much different.
  20. I think folks are going to be quite suprised how competitive Tassie will be from the outset. Reading between the lines the AFL is very keen on giving a lot of draft picks, but that they expect (demand) to be swapped for experienced players AND give them a sign on bonus fumd. GC and GWS coming in in consecutive years somewhat cannablised their own success. They had half their side under 20. Additionally, the player landscape is a lot different to 2011. There is a LOT more money splashing around. Good players and very good players will get an opportunity to be inaugural players with very lucrative sign on bonuses (expecting tassie to have almost $2 mln to sign OUTSIDE the salary cap) If all this sounds like a total rort and manufactured way to have the team competitive from its first or second season. It is. Buckley isnt an [censored].
  21. Buyer beware with BM. His historical output is indeed consistent, above average and what we need (or needed from 2023 to 2025) but his last 7 games saw a significant drop off in marks per game, marks inside 50, player rating, contested marks (he didnt take any). He's really struggled these last 2 months (maybe hes injured) It might just be the Pies were just shizen going inside 50, but 1.5mln for 2 years (if correctly reported) is a big amount of money for a player who may just be a cameo player for the rest of his career if the last 2 months are any predictor. I thinks its a line ball risky decision.
  22. You can't teach forward craft. Players either know how to instinctively lose their opponents or they dont. Its why 3 or 4 of our players had career best years for marks inside 50 per game (due to faster ball movement) and 2 didnt. We're going nowhere with the same KPFs.
  23. Now do it with the administrators. Andrew Dillon $1.8mln + (reportedly) Tell me the players are overpaid again?
  24. Xerri is the biggest player on the ground most weeks and has had just 33 marks for the year. He has had 4x as many tackles (132). Its like Big when he woke up one day and had Matt Rowell or Tom Liberatore infused into his body.
  25. Correct and Elliot Curtis Stringer etc. Its just not about size and giving a contest. You have to have inate forward sense and beat your opponent. And speaking of, couldnt help but think watching Toby Green taking 2 amazing hangers in the final minute to save the lead for his team was everything we missed on Frriday night.
