  1. Laurie is in because of consistant good form in the VFL, it is exactly what we should be doing in selection. reward these players.
  2. Mitch Lewis out for the Hawks, not 100% sold that Tommo is in now
  3. this is a must do!! Watched a bit of Jefferson this year, he has all the tools. just needs to be developed correctly and build a big tank as i think he is going to be a mobile CHF type
  4. Our mids have consistently shown they can't do that. We have played with 1 tall plenty of the past 2 years.
  5. Sorry can't agree with this. With a key def on him he will have to lead too far away from goal. and with our kicking to forwards he wont get enough on a lead and big def will kill him in the air. The reason he looks good in the air is because he gets the mismatch on midfielders and he is much stronger than them and does have a good leap for his size.
  6. Another thing I noticed from the game is the fact we refuse to kick the ball of the ground and clear the area. very frustrating, a few times our player was just first to the ball and had 2 opponents around them and rather than kick it forward and hopefully get another number to the contest we try and pick it up and handball out. Then inevitably turned it over and then our number at the contest is lost. I noticed this countless times, it looks as if it is an instruction which baffles me especially in wet weather.
  7. OUT: Grundy, JJ, Smith IN: T-Mac or Schache, Laurie, Thommo Smith to Sub, Tommo into the 22 (although maybe not against the Hawks as they don't have the tall timber to worry about), Laurie for a run as an outside midfield rotation and we just have to get a tall body up forward and tell them to make a contest and protect JVR. Id love to get Hibbo in as well, maybe instead of Tommo this week, but Tommo needs to play when sides have 2 good tall forwards.
  8. Smith had less impact on the game than chandler. Chandler won the two games previously of his own boot, Smith was forward for a quarter and a half and his mark and goal was his only touch when in the forward line. He had 5 possies for the game, and 74 meters gained, 1 free against. this is why he needs to be sub, he does this as sub which is fine but a whole game. Not good enough. Spargo has shown he isn't up to it this year, and he isn't a goal kicker. i also like AMW but he is a lot like Kossie and it will upset the balance of crumbing smalls. We simply have to go with T-Mac if fit or Shachke until he is fit, JVR needs the help too tried his heart out on the weekend and often against a couple.
  9. Chandler is as safe as houses, has been one of our best since he came back in. and even today he kicked a goal, had 1 goal assist and 5 score involvements at 88% disposal efficiency. Agree with JJ going out and I think Smith needs to go back to Sub, he just doesn't have the smarts for full games. but has been very good as Sub this year
  10. Hey guys I think people need to stop calling this the Gawn/Grundy Experiment, as this wasn't it. this was Grundy Forward and Gawn in the middle. Very different to originally planned. The forward line is clearly where our downfall is, seeing our talls in reserve aren't up to it could our forward line look something like: Pickett, JVR, Melksham ANB, Fritsch, Chandler I'm not sure of a better option, Grundy can't survive as a full forward. All in all not overly upset with the loss, almost pinched it. We do need to come out more switched on from the first bounce, been a few weeks it has taken as a while o pick up the pace of the game.
  11. Tough hard footy, good to have a game like that before finals. another slow start in picking up the game tempo hurt us. I'm not sure what the coaching panel are thinking but I don't think Grundy can be a Full forward. I'm not sure where we go with our forward line though, here's to hoping that T-Mac finds 2018 form.
  12. why do we refuse to soccer the ball forward and clear the area??
  13. Any chance of a free kick
  14. I'm sure you have had plenty of responses already. I think he will still be a couple of seasons away, but in saying that you never know after a proper full pre season he might get the start of a big aerobic tank. He does need to bulk up, but he is going to be a mobile up the ground forward, which will compliment JVR perfectly. The games i have watched he has had some impressive ones and others where he has gone missing, which is to be expected from a 19 year old key position player. But he has a good grab on him, he runs well, kicking isn't great but not horrible and can be worked on. I can see him and JVR being a very similar combo to Hawkins/Cameron, in terms of styles, obviously if they turn out to be like them two we will be laughing.
  15. from current day players it has to be Toby Greene or Jordan De Goey. Greene is a top 5 player in the AFL currently and easily the best in his position. De Goey would be awesome swapping with Petracca midfield and forward would be juicy.
  16. Corner Hotel is my usual go to, if you are going with mates and want a seat i would google them and book a table though.
  17. He is worse as a fwd.
  18. Thats his only role he can play though. Was fine against NM. But is different if it's a Gunston, Mihochek, Rohan or one of these quality tall/mid tall options. He has played this role before and failed, he has been good when coming on with fresh legs and run on top of his opponent. If he had Salem's footy IQ he would be absolutely amazing with his athletic abilities
  19. Not doubting any of that, but the reason he hasn't done it often is because he has shown he is AA style defender. May only has a couple more seasons in him at best and we have a top 15 draft pick in the VFL who is a key forward. Like I said he is fine for what we need now, but I don't see him staying there
  20. Smith isn't fantastic. He had 7 disposals and 2 turnovers, and he jumps at everything and leaves his man. He is very handy as sub but just lacks the concentration for full games.
  21. Out: Petty, Harmes, Smith, Hibberd In: Schache, Oliver, Thomlinson I think Schache could be a good option, but im not confident in any options really. Hibbo unlucky and Smith back to his sub role which is now more important to us with Petty out.
  22. 2019, go and have a look at his stats. Il accept your apology later!
  23. Travy14 replied to Hawny for Gawny's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Love this idea! Won't be $$ Carlton don't rate him, he would be very handy plug until hopefully a Jafferson develops
  24. If Petty in injured. Is it worth giving Schache a go? I think he could be an ok option, and I'd prefer him as the back up ruck than a 20 year old in JVR (Schache also expendable). Unfortunately Harmes is no longer an AFL level footballer, but Clarry coming back solves that.
  25. Our problem is non of our other options do really
