Tom Fullarton
Gee, it doesn't take long for people to turn. Not long so JVR was a saviour. Now he's trash. Well, he isn't; imv he needs to be played as a mobile CHF and we will see the best of him.

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
I'll add my two bob's worth: Windsor is NOT a defender and a potential great is being ruined. He is a winger! No, not a midfielder: a WINGER. Petty as a defender makes too many mistakes and always has. If he makes a mistake as a key defender, it costs us a goal. If he does it as a forward, it loses a scoring opportunity, that's all. He should play FF and let JVR play where he should: as a mobile CHF (and not as a backup ruck). If Max is going to rest for 10 minutes per quarter we MUST select a backup ruck. Fritsch plays best close to goals. Our recruiters have to find us some power big men in a hurry. When Max and May retire, our situation will be diabolical as things stand. My hero Clarry, and others, have to run MUCH harder when the oppos have the ball. There is no excuse for this loose marking of players, allowing the opposition to chip the ball around until they chip it to an unguarded player in their forward 50. Viney needs to be the one giving the handpass, not receiving it to deliver it into the forward line, since he ALWAYS kicks it to the opposition. So does Trac, who seems to blame others but should look at his own kicking skills. Jones and Choco have to go and Chaplin should go back to being defence coach. And those who say Goody was responsible for Jones getting the coaching gig: I don't think so!!!! There, all fixed😜

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
I can't say how much I agree with this. We have completely gone down the wrong track, trying to emulate what other teams do when we don't have the correct players. Even if we could get it working, we would never be the best in the league at that game and to win the flag, you have to be the best. We should go back to strangling the life out of teams with contest, defence and power.

My 3 word player analysis V Geelong
Windsor - not a defender Petty - back to attack Sparrow - murdered his opponent

Pretty much agree with all of this

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
I was there in 2018 with my daughter. Horrible night. As I recall it, OMac should have got a free for a block but it was Taxpayer Park so no chance. Leaving the ground, the Geelong supporters were absolutely horrible - worse than Collingwood supporters. No magnanimity at all, just nasty. I have hated them ever since.

TRAINING: Thursday 3rd April 2025
When he was on Toby Greene, I think Toby had his number - not that that is any disgrace. But I don't think he was very good defensively against GWS.

In my view, this would be a real concern. Windsor is a terrific player, but I am not at all convinced that he is a half back, particularly defensively, and Geelong's half forwards are extremely dangerous and need close checking. I don't think Howes is the answer either, but would rather rely on Salem, rivers and Bowser as smaller half backs.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
The Jeff White analysis is ultra-interesting, and confirms what I had started to think: Jones is not the man for the job sand the quicker we realise it, the better. As Adam the God said, we are playing exactly like he used to, but with our midfield, that is so wrong. Also agree that the players are not running to offer leads etc - usually a sign of dissatisfaction with the coach, but which coach? Richardson needs to get involved.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Yes, thank you, that was exactly my point. I would FAR rather watch us win 71-64 in a " boring defensive style " than watch us play fast, outside football and lose by 5 goals. Now, about our midfield. In his presser, Goody said our midfield system wasn't working, and that is obviously true. Much as he was a greatly-loved player, should we be looking at our first-year midfield coach?

What was one of the more interesting and objective threads on Demonland has, like so many others, been hacked by the "let's bag Goody" brigade. Such a shame. On a more objective note, why does everyone seem to want us to play the "modern game" of fast movement etc? If we choose to play that way, don't we have to become the BEST at it if we want to win a flag? And if we're are starting from behind in terms of playing personnel, skills etc, then our chances of becoming the best are slim or nil. Wouldn't it be better to play our own game of contest and defence, and rely on that to be capable of beating the alternative game style?

Time to go Goody?
Sorry mate, I still don't get your point - I THINK you are disagreeing with me but crikey, you are making a terrible job of it. Bulldogs got a flag 9 years ago and I C an talking about much more recent history than that. You might not have noticed, but a lot of outsiders think their list has been the best in the league. Certainly, plenty of people think that Brisbane have got a GREAT list - actually, they do - and they have had one flag (20 years ago is ancient history). Others think the same of Carlton - no flags. Geelong have been thereabouts for ever - many many prelims - one flag in the last 15 years. Sydney - always there, no recent flags. Apart from last year we have been super-competitive, with a very good list. End of story. If you want to comment, can you do so in a way that we can understand?

Time to go Goody?
I think you are having a go at me but honestly, can't you do better than that? My point was: the amount of times I read on this absolutely c..p thread that Good has wasted a list, the likes of which have never been seen before on earth or in heaven. Which is such rubbish. We have had a strong list with a number of superstars. In the same period, so have WB, Brisbane, Carlton, Sydney.... two of which are empty-handed.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
On another track, I have been thinking about some of the players we have let go - Jordon, Bedford and Harms in particular. All of them have made their way elsewhere as taggers. We have not really focused on having a tagger - Harms did it occasionally but not consistently. But it didn't seem to be a part of Goody's method. But at the moment there are a number of players who absolutely MUST be tagged - eg Cripps, Daicos, Neale - and I wonder if we should develop a player in that role. And as someone who just doesn't seem to be making it, but who is a good size and might have the discipline, I wonder if Woey Jr could do that?

Time to go Goody?
At last - someone who sees that other clubs want to win flags too, and some of them actually have pretty good lists.

Time to go Goody?
Gee, that's an original viewpoint. I haven't heard any poster say that before.
