If we can address our midfield issues, Salem and Bowey can both become much more effective as they won’t need to be as defensively focused. It’s a big ‘if’ though, relies upon our top 5 pick having a spot on the ground from Round 1

Very good game of footy. I wanted Geelong to win as the lesser of two evils. I also looked forward to seeing how Dangerfield’s tackle was assessed. The exact type of tackle that people have got weeks for this year and what the AFL want ruled out.

Both of Jordon and Bedford are playing tagging roles, which Goodwin doesn’t employ. It’s not necessarily a fail, more that it’s differing tactics. I guarantee both of them weren’t recruited to be taggers by Sydney & GWS

Glass half full - Christian is going to be working his butt of this pre-season to return to full fitness. Glass half empty - he’s doing it to seduce his 2026 team which won’t be us

If I could pick any bloke in the league to grab for free, it would be Jesse Hogan but Finn would probably be close second. He’s got it all
-
In simplistic terms, I think he’s a more versatile version of Sparrow. Sparrow gets a gig every week so Kennedy would too
-
Carlton folk suggest Owies is a small forward that plays like a lead up forward - Basically a smaller version of Fritta. Doesn’t apply any pressure defensively or work well at the feet of their talls. I’d look at Kennedy for midfield depths for sure

Finn Callaghan would be the absolute dream recruit, he does it all
-
He was still on crutches in the last few rounds, surely he’s a long way off?
-
I hope our club watched Jase Burgoyne do his thing last night, he’s the exact opposite of what we look for and he stood up in a final ahead of much more fancied and credentialed teammates.

Straight out of the Dimma playbook Even with their premiership legacy, I reckon both Dimma and Dusty will be a little unpopular with the way this has all played out

My brother was playing footy in QLD at the time Jack Martin was playing late years of juniors. All everyone would talk about was how good he was. Hard to believe it’s amounted to so little

This suggests Parfitt is probably grossly undervalued and should be on our radar for the ANB role - if we stick to the current method

Lever 2017, May 2018 and Langdon 2019 were all quality. Following that we have landed Brown in 2020 and Grundy in 2022, who were both pushed out of their respective clubs. Hardly shooting the lights out but as I said, the trade pool is always very shallow

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
BW511 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can agree with that. He’s really neat and tidy but never the one to create the move. His kicking in particular is very safe -
His contribution earlier in the year was certainly better, when we were playing the faster and more attacking gamestyle. He suffers from the same thing everyone else does, spend all their tickets defending space and have zero left when it counts. There’s certainly limitations in what Jack can do as a footballer but he’s being asked to be something he’s not, particularly when he was probably sold a very different story on recruitment. I should add, I’m not a Jack Billing’s superfan, far from it, but every player that had an ounce of attack in our squad has slowly been ground down to become a defensive robot
-
Wow. That’s a lot of money on a bloke that doesn’t have a set position
-
If there is an example of a bloke not suiting our game style, it is Jack Billings. If we transitioned to the faster, more skill based method, he could potentially add a lot more impact - not saying he will but it wouldn’t hurt to try
-
It’s not like 100 players are changing clubs every year, so we are starting a long way back when compared to the Hawks and Cats (Culture/Reputation etc) Then you have the deep pockets of Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton. At absolute best, we are 6th in line of the Melbourne clubs, more realistically, we are behind a few others too

Is Cerra known for running defensively? If he goes both ways, I’d take him as an upgrade on Sparrow for sure. Certainly finds the ball more than Tom
-
I think Trac and the review into FD will demand our system changes, makes it hard to know who will suit us in 2025. I think we need a Walsh or Andy Brayshaw type who is ultra consistent and dependable, not necessarily a game breaker but just does the hard/team orientated stuff each week.
-
For minimal currency, I would put some very serious consideration into it. He’s been a good player for a long time. He’s at 1.6 goals a game (293 total) versus Fritta at 1.8 goals a game (252 total), he’s also the same height and 10kg heavier. Some extra pressure on Melk/Turner/Fritta would be welcomed - I don’t see Melk as guaranteed games next year as he was patchy at best
-
I’d love to see Kolt permanently take ANB’s spot and transition the role into a more rounded/attacking version for 2025 and beyond. Can certainly appreciate what our Half forward rotation have done defensively in years gone by but have always felt we are spending too much energy defensively. Pick 5 needs to go to a mid with serious skill and some breakaway pace. We don’t need another Trac, we need someone who compliments Trac and Clarry

No way Houston gets them any further into September
