I know recruiting is an inexact science but people around here are very quick to write off young players. He was very good on the weekend and will be a vital member of the team this year and beyond.
-
I think the consensus is we all want him to stay. Pay him what he wants. Not sure there’s much point torturing ourselves for the season, will he won’t he. Finally get our act together, win games, play finals and Oliver’s contract takes care of itself. More mediocrity and failure, Oliver won’t stick around. The coaching team really have to deliver this year.

They've got some good young players, Brayshaw, Serong, Cerra. I'd have any of them.

the votes went to his brother Andrew

If he is determined to go and forces the club’s hand then we have to get a proven player plus a high pick in return. We have enough developing youngsters as it is. If it’s Essendon I want Merrett and perhaps a high second rounder. If Carlton then I would try for Saad (he doesn’t seem to mind switching clubs) and a first rounder.

Did Jackson steal your girlfriend or what? The kid has bags of talent. He’ll be a mobile ruck and extra midfielder for us in time. They don't grow on trees. He didn’t play well on the weekend. If he needs to go back to Casey to develop and learn his craft so be it. I'm not against the idea But trading him after what, 7 games of AFL footy, makes absolutely no sense.

Whats wrong with having news items about the women's team? They've qualified to play finals and have just beaten 2 top 4 teams on consecutive weekends. When was the last time the blokes did that?
-
Perhaps I missing something but the rule is if the impact is severe it’s a 3 match ban. There’s no leeway or discretion or discount. It’s 3 games. End of. If there was malice involved (which I don’t think there was) then additional games are added.

Didn't know you could laugh OD ?

I thought he mentioned 27k on the DL podcast

You’ve tempted fate there EO. Expect the “Why we lose to St. Kilda” thread to appear any minute now.

apology accepted.

I’m strangely confident. What’s the opposite of MFCSS?

It’ll boil down to slotting our set-shots. The saint were very good in this department yesterday considering the conditions. Trac has a critical role to play. He beat the saints last year. They don’t match up on him well so he could snag a 5-goal haul. Fritsch and TMac to contribute also. I feel we’ll need to kick 15-8 or similar to win.

Standards at the Age have been falling for a long time. I don't read any of there football coverage any more

The rules were changed for exactly this type of scenario. No malice by danger but he knocked the guy out cold. That's as severe as it gets therefore has be 3 weeks

True but its been a while since the Wix and Yze ran around for us. I guess it demonstrates the paucity of talent we've had in recent times.

I don’t like 5 year contracts even for exceptional talents like Oliver. Contracts don't make clubs successful. Give him 2-3 years on top dollar. Let him test the market if needs be. I’ve no problem players securing the best deal for themselves. I would do the same. If he wants to be involved in a successful team then he has to be a catalyst, an agent for change, driving standards’ play his role in creating a successful culture and environment. He needs to invest and commit. Likewise the club have to deliver the best possible coaching and development team. I think coaching deficiencies have been addressed this off season with Chocco and the Ooze. Burgo is the best in the business. The head coach is the last piece that’s missing at the moment imv (I hope to be proven wrong). Commit for 2-3 more years Clarrie. If you work your nuts off to help the team be successful I don’t think anyone would begrudge a move away.

Magee doesn't have the same feel for the game. She's best used to lock down on an opposition forward. Run and dash is not her forte at all.
-
Only midfielders get a look in for the Brownlow. Might poll a few votes but that's it. I wonder if the umps gave him any votes this weekend? He'll make the AA team if he continues this form for sure.

Blair Campbell, who enjoyed a brief spell with us in the late sixties (before my time) was credited with inventing the banana-kick. Not a renowned exponent of the fine art Ed Langdon executed his banana-kick perfectly on the weekend. Struggling to think of other examples in recent times of other Dees players doing the same.

I thought our season was going down in flames after the pies fiasco but credit to the team and coaching staff we’ve really turned it around. The move of Daisy to full forward has been inspired. Her poise was the difference today dribbling the 4th goal and setting up Gay for the winner. I doubt we’ll improve our ladder position so most likely inter-state finals. It’ll take a herculean effort to win it from here but after the grit and fight we’ve shown the last 2 weeks I wouldn’t back against us. Go Dees.

I hope the girls reminded Roxy Roux what the score was at full time.
