Not sure on timings, but I know assistant coaches can break contract if their new job is a promotion.

I've said my piece and I'm sure others are as keen as I am to get back on topic. Cheers.

I don't use that stat to try and claim he's some kind of superstar, more that he was doing his job and holding his spot before injury.
-
If he managed to pull a ANB/TMac and come back and win his spot back it could be a very different look forward with Petty, JVR and a fully fit Gawn all potentially forward.
-
To be fair, he played 14 games for Casey, half of which were when he was clearly still getting his knee and fitness back. Buntine played 16, Ellison 20, and neither are key defenders; which is usually a harder position to win votes in. And just to add - he was number 1 in the AFL for defensive one on ones before he did his knee so I disagree he's not a good one on one defender.

We've ventured a long way off the track - but I'll just say I'm absolutely with you that those who abuse their position of authority and power in religious organisations should be held accountable every time, which obviously does not happen. I would even say that given the nature of their positions and the additional trust, place in society and financial advantages they can have that punishments in such cases should be more harsh to reflect that. I understand our experiences have been very different, but my experience has been quiet different to yours in terms of people in religious organisations holding leadership to account and being transparent about their operations. I've also personally known many at the 'top of the tree' in organisations like this who have been thoroughly good, ethical and selfless people. I won't go on any more though so hopefully we can get back on topic.

Might give more context perhaps...

Heard the whole interview live, was definitely more about having a club interested in taking him - likely with some kind of assurance he'll be considered first 22.

Fremantle have picked up a good crumber?

Sometimes those bits have the most flavour... but I'm not sure how to turn that into a footy analogy...

This is a rubbish comment and just another generalisation mate.

You sure do love cancel culture for someone who bangs on about free speech and being open to different opinions. Anyways, on the actual point - Gawn attended 258 less ruck contests this year than he did in 2021. His hitout stat was the lowest it's been since 2014 and his shots at goal was slightly up as was his marks inside 50. Luke Jackson's ruck contest average went up by 6.4 per game. His shots at goal average came down slightly also as did his marks inside 50. I would say that paints a pretty clear picture that Gawn played more forward this year than last which obviously gives him more opportunity for contested marks.

He'll get to Freo. Just lots of back and forth about the finer details going on behind the scenes IMO. There can be interconnected deals all going on at once - perhaps something to do with us trading part of what we get for Jackson - so it can be a bit messy and lots of back and forth with multiple clubs. Even more so with a club like us who seem to have a more holistic plan for trade period. Just gotta hold tight I think.

I thought he played some of his best footy as a lockdown defender, but at the same time it's a role where he probably doesn't get to capitalise on his greatest asset - his speed. So mixed feelings about it I guess. He seems one of the best blokes around, he's battled bad luck with injuries and always seemed positive, and I don't remember a single game where he didn't give AFL level effort. I'll always consider him part of our premiership team. Not sure how much team success he'll have at WC, but could see him adding to the highlight reel while there.
-
I would say the difference though is he had more opportunity for contested marks this year given he spent far more time forward. Especially in the second half of the year, Jackson was often the primary ruck.
-
Absolutely, which is why I've stated that I know my experience isn't everyone's experience. I've not doubted or put down anyone else's experience, and my own is mixed. But the value of people who have sacrificed their entire lives to do good is not worth any less than the lives of those who we've lost due to the horrendous experiences they've had. My parents spent 50 years of their lives helping others in the name of their religion and put themselves last that whole time - why should they be put down and insulted due to someone's experience of other people? Sorry, that's just not right.
-
Sorry WCW, but I won't let people slander the good people I know, including people in my family, with generalisations based on their own personal experience. I don't think that's any different to 'their side'. The difference in the two 'sides' here is I've openly said I appreciate my experiences (which weren't all good btw) aren't the same as everyone elses, yet the 'other side' is saying their experiences equal complete truth. That's just not right. We wouldn't stand by and let people say racist things because they had experiences which led them to feel that way would we? I'm no fan of religion, but I've known enough people involved in religious organisations who have spent their lives doing tremendous good for others to know it's simply not correct to label them all as terrible.

No stress mate, I got my own head in a spin trying to put it together!
