It's the delivery. Goodwin's style has always seemed based on territory IMO, and it seems like the players have had that message so stitched into their play that no matter how much 'work we do' the coaches haven't been able to change the behaviours that are automatic (by their own doing). Once we start looking 30-40m out instead of going for territory to the goal square where we rely on 'bringing the ball to ground' (with 1 key forward, ugh) things will (can) turn around. The challenge is finding a simple and effective way to change that behaviour.

Two Metre Peter
Replacement for Preuss? Why exactly? Not much point having all of Preuss, Weid, Petty, Brown and Wright on our list. We're better off paying the price for a genuine 'best 22' key forward.

Let me guess, you don't understand the difference between those things and a selection committee. Votes? You're not serious are you? The selection committee is there to facilitate discussion, the coach makes the final call.

I agree mate. I was just trying to think of players who could potentially think they're not in their best roles. Personally Lever doesn't strike me as one who would complain anyway.

Harmes, Smith, Jones, Lever, Brown could all be added to the list for varying reasons too...

"Impact players"? What does that even mean? Because he tackles hard? Who cares. Averaging 10 disposals, 0 goals and 3 tackles. That's what you call 'impact'? Haha a committee hey? You honestly think Goodwin has ever been out voted on selection? Laughable. The point was, you treat them all the same, they all have to earn their spot and perform to keep it. It shouldn't be one rule for vandenBerg and another one for everyone else.

Sorry mate, but that's rubbish. Our culture will go to trash again if some players are afforded more opportunities than others despite the same form on game day. Once coaches start playing favourites it's all over.

But why does he get a few games to find touch and others don't? Just because he's a good bloke?

So basically, everyone should just shut up because people other than you may be privy to information, and because 'from where you sit' there's no problem then that means there must be no problem. Got it. We live in a relatively small city, the same city where our team is based. If you find it so staggeringly unbelievable that people who barrack for the same footy team and people who are involved in that team don't talk to each other about that team then that's up to you. This thinly veiled swipe at me is easily solved with the ignore function, but I can absolutely say I don't make things up and my track record now is decent enough to not cop you asking for things to be deleted because you don't like them.

Not sure about between Mahoney and Bartlett, haven't heard anything directly about that. I've had two different people who don't know each other (but both would have a good idea about inside the club), tell me similar things about Mahoney and Goody having a bit of a "clique" which has caused some friction with others involved in the club. One of those people mentioned a fair way back that Bartlett would be the type to seek the limelight and control a bit, and given the evolving story about PJ's exit, his chosen successor (Mahoney) being overlooked and Pert being fairly quiet; it does seem like that from the outside. I think these things can a bit more grey than we take them though. Personally I've felt Mahoney has done a good job with most trades, especially early on with working the points system, but the coaching side has been rocky to put it lightly and that also falls on Mahoney as the football boss. We've lost some high quality people already and a few more currently involved in the club aren't very happy with the internal workings. I've been told Mahoney will likely leave end of year, but given the type of year it is and how early it is I wouldn't put your house on it. I reckon he should have moved on when he didn't end up getting the CEO job, I don't know how that is possibly a great environment now.

Only rumour of course, but a big part of that will apparently be gone at the end of the year.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
Lots of people complain about Salem's 'dinky' short kicks. They would be absolute gold if they were coming inside 50 to open players 40 out.

Remember someone here posting that a few clubs had done the same thing this year. Seems a common theme to try and give the sponsors as much exposure as they would get in a normal season. Our content has been getting better and better the last couple of years, this year IMO it's the best it's ever been and given that's with a likely reduced staff I think that's a fantastic effort by the club. In particular, the content for kids they've started to put out has been a great initiative.

Always had a bit of an off feeling about PJ's exit and that adds to it a bit tbh. I've got nothing against Pert at all, from the outside he seems to be doing a good job, but just something never sat well about the process and how it all panned out.

Ross Lyon analysis of lack of scoring
Very true mate. My gut feel is Goodwin keeps over-correcting with his message. We've not seen a good balance of game styles yet, we've either seen manic or totally slow.

Gary Pert
100%. On the available evidence an extension was the right call, but you're right in that it's the parameters that matter. My point was more about whose call it was at the time for all the above.

Ross Lyon analysis of lack of scoring
I'm a Goodwin critic currently, but to be fair to him I'm sure he's showed exactly the same vision to the players every week. It's the implementation that's failing and that's where we as supporters don't know for sure where the problem is. It could be the players not listening, it could be the way the message is being put across from the coaches, it could be the onfield leadership etc etc. One thing that IMO is on the coaches is that there seems to be not much consequence for the main culprits of the problem. We seem to drop and pick the same fringe group of players, putting the onus of change on them when it's some of our 'stars' that need the readjusting.
-
Gary Pert
He was, but to be fair he'd only been there a few months, a big part of which Goodwin wouldn't have even been there for. It was very much a Mahoney and board decision.

Gary Pert
As far as I've heard, the problem isn't Pert. Mahoney was being groomed for the CEO role and then didn't get it. He should have moved on at the time. Jackson was the one preparing Mahoney for that role but Bartlett decided to take a bit more control and make some decisions. I haven't heard anything negative about Pert, doesn't mean it's not there of course, but I've been hearing plenty of noise about Mahoney and Bartlett. My opinion is that things weren't setup well enough when both PJ and Roos left (at different times) and we really needed PJ for longer. Seems like the culture has gone back to how it was previously already. Cliques and friction.

Forwards coach
For mine, it's all connected mate. Timing of leads needs to be in conjunction with the mids and all part of the overarching game plan. Not impossible, but just makes it a bit hard to have a consultant type of operator come in if they're not going to be there regularly.
-
Forwards coach
I think coaches would just mainly worried about consistency of messaging and game plan. Bit tricky bringing in an outsider for a day and having them instruct your players to do different things to what you're trying to make habitual for them.

Go into settings>safari>request desktop website and check what you've got that set to. You might also want to check page zoom while in the safari settings. You can also press on the AA in the address bar in safari when looking at Demonland and go to website options. Make sure 'request desktop website' is switched off. Hope that helps!
