Weid and Naughton aren't competing for the same spot.

The Carlton game was borderline, but I felt Weid just edged Brown in that one, particularly given how much Brown and TMac were getting in each others ways. Then Weid had a poor one against the Crows, to be fair though none of our marking forwards did well in that game given the delivery - TMac and Fritsch both down as well, and all BB had to do was kick a couple for Casey to get back in. Unfortunately he had an absolute stinker and didn't earn a call up. That's how it works now. You have to earn a shot no matter who you are or how well you played a few years ago. Brown is unlucky big time there's no game this week, but he only has himself to blame after his showing for Casey last week.

Caroline Wilson - Where has she gone?

Ok, so by your own words it was nothing along the lines of wanting it removed: -

I had a search and couldn't find it mate. Would suggest the onus is on you to prove that statement, especially in the context of you going after a journo for things they've meant to have said. -

You got a source for this, especially that last part? Never read that anywhere. -
Or that Weid is more mobile and has a better tank than Brown? Given his Casey performance you have to wonder if he's still battling to be back to his peak fitness. As DeeSpencer also mentioned, on the evidence so far it seems Weid and TMac get in each others way far less than Brown and TMac have. That could also be due to Weid's ability to spread more. Highlighting those inside 50 stats just tells me Weid is covering more ground than Brown.

Agree to disagree then mate. Weid averages more tackles and pressure acts than Brown this year. He's not TMac as far as pressure and running goes, not many are this year, but he's closer to it than Brown currently and that's the competition. As for the Blues game: Weid - 13 disposals, 5 marks (2 contested), 1 behind, 1 tackle, 1 goal assist Brown - 11 disposals, 3 marks (1 contested), 1 behind, 0 tackles, 0 goal assists Pretty clearly Weid edged Brown in that game, tho neither were very good.

To me it makes sense to frame the whole thing as competition for one spot. Weid edged out Brown performance wise against the Blues. Brown did nothing to earn a call up so Weid got another chance and was ok. I feel for Brown that he doesn't get a chance this week to show something. Really; all Brown had to do was kick a couple of goals for Casey and he'd have been in this week but he had a Barry Crocker. You pick the team on current form, not on form from a couple of years ago so Weid gets the nod until Brown forces the hand of the selectors, that's how good clubs do it. The pressure question is an interesting one to me though. Sure, everyone should be applying pressure, but maybe that forward role Weid (or Brown) plays is more to stay at home most of the time so we have a target when we rebound? Fritsch and Melksham both average less tackles than Weid. We seem to let them off because it's 'not their role' to be a pressure forward, it's their role to provide skill and finishing, yet we hold Weid to a different standard for some reason. Not every forwards role is to be a 'pressure forward' even though all of them are expected to bring that element to a degree.

Not really when you look at it in the context of selection. Brown dismal at VFL level. Weid inconsistent but kicked two important goals and has the clear edge over the player competing for the same spot currently. I don't want to hear anyone calling for Weid out for Brown to ever try to talk about culture or competition for spots.

Haha that's fair mate, we're all a bit ready to snap hey! I agree Weid needs to impact more consistently, but the club talked during the week about liking the 3 talls so i think it's ended up a battle between Weid and Brown so they'll likely get their form compared the rest of the year. I think where we're at now though is having a hungry team who are picked on form as much as possible, so Brown is no different to anyone else on the list; needs to earn his shot. Didn't do himself any favours last week with a lacklustre showing. Being the proven player he is though; there's no doubt he can put it together pretty quickly, which keeps the pressure on Weid to perform.

Hang on a sec... What if next round ends up a bye for us and then we don't have to make the change after all?
-
6 disposals is worth mentioning when it's more than Brown managed to get at VFL level. Also, Weid averages 2 tackles a game, Brown averages 0.67. Weid averages 7 pressure acts a game, Brown averages 5.3.

I've been 'harsh' on him for a long time but he was fantastic last night. He's gotten better almost week by week in the wing role and showed a different type of talent against the Doggies.

My impression is Goody has certain strengths as a coach that come to the fore when he has the right mix around him. I believe he's a smart footy mind, relates well to the players and is a very balance and level headed manager of the group and the game plan. When he has a tactical thinker/innovator and a more 'fiery' type to compliment him it's the right mix. We had that with Jennings and McCartney and IMO it's no coincidence Goody (and the team) struggled when they both left. Richo seems similar to Goody from the outside, pretty calm and level, so didn't add much in terms of the total strengths of the coaching group, but then having Yze and Williams come in has brought back that combo that works. Not trying to make it sound like all credit is to Choco and Ooze, but I think their strengths mean Goody's thrive.

Rubbish. Weid last night - 6 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 2.1 goals Brown (at VFL level) - 4 disposals, 0 marks, 2 tackles, 0 shots at goal We've waited so long to build a genuinely competitive culture and so many want to throw it out the window at first chance.

No one has a tank like Langdon, so it's probably likely a couple of players rotate in that role. Gut feel is they'll bring in Baker, but it worries me having him and Gus on the wings, neither are great with the ball atm.

Sparrow in for Melksham's role, Melksham to Langdon's role?

Blood moon has brought out your dark side joeboy. Really harsh assessments here.

Alternate view - If Sparrow, Chandler or Bedford came in and didn't lay a single tackle they would be getting savaged on here.

Not quite official yet, all the players tests have to come back negative, not just the close contact one.

Potentially due to COVID restrictions on who can attend?

I think that might be the time of Fox Footy's broadcast start. AFL website still has our game as 7.50pm bounce. https://www.afl.com.au/news/621165/fixture-update-two-r11-games-move-to-sydney-suns-hawks-back-on

Reckon you're underselling yourself old fella! Was only a week or two ago that our new president was talking about how much the vibe of the supporters affects the playing group.
