  1. It is an absolute farce… there is literally no difference.
  2. 18.5.3 on 'Permitted Contact': "Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player’s sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark." Gleeson conceded that JVRs intent was to spoil but adds that any reasonable player couldn’t spoil without causing impact. I wonder whether we are all being played for fools here and this will be successfully appealed under error of law, however the AFL will then initiate an immediate revision of this and other rules like it where any football action that a reasonable player performs will be done with a duty of a care. Previously any football action was a grey area and somewhat protected can now have a definitive line where players can now be suspendable performing football acts that are not reasonable in their endeavour.
  3. I was thinking this too. Based on the finding, i don’t think it matters. So In effect Ballard was given permission to mark that ball with the full protection of the AFL because JVR wasn’t close enough to spoil in a way that he wouldn't get hit in the head. The AFL need to rid themselves of Gleeson, it was on his watch that Cripps won the Brownlow and that this ruling was made. In the famous words of one Jackie Chiles, “It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous”
  4. You can take that to the bank.
  5. 100% no one else will ever get this suspension again. Melbourne will forever be known as the precedent setter.
  6. Not sure whether we have the stats on the breakdown of scores from turnover ie D50, wing, Centre, F50, because if it was easier to score from back half turnovers then maybe there is benefit in losing them. Either way it would be interesting to analyse.
  7. Corn getting back in favour with Demon fans being the only known media personality citing Chols strike on Bowey. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/05/09/kane-cornes-six-observations-from-round-8-of-the-2023-afl-season/
  8. Hmmm not sure I’d want to lose, our brand is forward half territory and generating scores from forward half turnovers.
  9. The Cats did it with Hawkins acknowledging that he can build his tank in game as opposed to the 2nds or training. With the Hawks game this weekend I think we can take the risk and give McVee a well earned rest. We just need to be realistic in expectations and that he won’t repeat his ‘21 GF 1st half.
  10. Yes I am aware. For a close game you’d expect an equal representation of voting and yet Rowell was given 4 votes by his coach after a ineffective 2nd half. Ballard getting 1 vote?? No bias there.
  11. I thought Goody was supposed to be on tonight? I wonder if he’s caught the mystery illness doing the rounds through the squad atm.
  12. I also think the oppo's are really doing well to curb May's influence... Our defensive setup behind the ball has been our 1-wood for a few years now and so its not unexpected that our opponents go to school on us. I do wander how we will fair if Petty eventually goes back behind the ball.
  13. Turnover scores dried up last year if memory serves me right and is a good, reliable source of scoring as it is effort based, so glad to see that we have re-weaponised that.
  14. I like it in theory...but go and then explain the over-the-top love infatuation with the Pies or the Cats? Pies i can understand with their exciting brand and (i cringe as i write this), all things Nick Daicos. The Cats for crying out loud have been thereabouts for almost 2 decades and still get the adoration of the commentary teams.
  15. Dew / Goody (predicted voting) 10 - Anderson 5/5 7- Clayton 3/4 4- Rowell 4/0 3- Gawn 0/3 3- Powell 2/1 2- Swallow 0/2 1- Ballard 1/0 **Also worth calling out Dogga's 10 in the Freo vs Hawks game. Didnt watch a second of the game, but 2 goals and 24 touches was closed to his best ever game I would have thought. Pity about the opponent.
  16. https://aflcoaches.com.au/awards/the-aflca-champion-player-of-the-year-award/leaderboard/2023/20240108 Another week of 'unbiased' coaches voting against Melbourne. Who won this game again? 17. This is very much a life and die by the sword type of situation. GC seemed to have midfielders sitting forward side of the contest in their D50 and when we eventually turned it over, they would just waltz out of D50 without too much fuss and setup for an extremely fast counter-attack. I couldn't believe Goody didn't push up an extra defender to stop this.
  18. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet.
  19. It’s funny how they talk about how GC should have won given contested posies and clearances but fail to implement our +15 i50s and +5 scoring shots with our worst set shots accuracy in recent history.
  20. let’s ask the AFL to inplement cricket hot spot technology and we can all watch Gawns and what he cops week in, week out from attempted ‘spoils’. They’d be no defenders left to defend in the comp.
  21. The curse of the GF loser continues. Can’t see Swans making it from here.
  22. The chatter on Daicos for Brownlow is down… bit of a reality check for him playing off HB with a soft tag the last 2 weeks. Definitely impacted Collingwood’s quick transition and rebound. Still very good though.
  23. Geez Poes lucky for 2nd week of oppo inaccuracy from set shot.
  24. Swans bringing the heat.
