Can't see Rohan playing in a team with Hawkings and Cameron. Cats made a huge mistake not playing Dangerfield on the Ball. By all means rest him up forward as he can be very dangerous but for [censored] sake you've got to play one of your best mids in the guts. I'll add that I thought Geelong got a lot of soft free particularly in front of goals and conversely Richmond didn't get some obvious frees around the ground. Usually I'm very one eyed watching Dees games and can't tell if the umpires are really giving us a tough run but the last night I had no skin in the game and I noticed the uneveness of the adjudication.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway the Demons can take from this game is what Dimma and Richmond did after halftime to not only "stem the flow" but turn the tide and then crush their opponent. The Tigers couldn't get their A game going in the first half. The Cats were not giving them an inch and perhaps they shot themselves in the foot by not being further up. What did the Tigers do after half-time? Dimma didn't make wholesale changes after half time. He trusted in the plan, a plan that the Tiges can execute very well. They are well drilled and it's very successful. We are often critical of Goody not having a plan B when our plan A simply either isn't working or is being negated. I'm certainly guilty of this. Goody trusts in the process that our gameplan will work and we lambast him when no changes are made and plan A continues to fail. Do we need to change tactics? Is there a disconnect between the plan and the execution of the plan? How can we stem the flow. Sorry for the ramblings. Just feeling flat watching a team that a couple of years ago I thought were a bigger basketcase than us and now they have three flags and I'm whining to a computer.

Thank you to you Demonland and alll the team and all the posters (insightful & insightless). Here's to a better 2021 (on and off the field).

You can't teach what Gary has. If we're not talking about coaching ie: not the structures or game plans then he can't really impart anything. He can't transfer his skill and g.o.a.t-like qualities. Sure he can tell them to train hard and do the extra yards and yadda, yadda, yadda but they should already know that and be doing that. For that they can talk to Max 2019 preseason or Trac 2020 preseason. I get your frustration. As a club we should be doing everything in our power to be the best. Get the best people, on and off the field, get the best facilities and impart the best wisdom. If Gary can coach (and just because he was a great player doesn't mean he can coach) then he'd be a great asset but getting him in for a few token sessions isn't going to change anything. And as I've said, most of what he's got just can't be taught.
-
True but he still has a year on his contract and perhaps her wants to see the direction we are going before putting pen to paper.

Are board members allowed to put boots on at training and practice goal kicking? Actually asking a genuine question here. Legally, or from an OH&S perspective, can he do this? We don't have a dedicated goal kicking coach (not counting ruck coach multitasking) and goal kicking is perhaps our second greatest weakness going forward. As to having a "footy guy" on the board I'm all for this. Welcome home Brad.

Wasn't Eagles the guy who won a reality comp to get a spot on the list?
-
I agree but he needs to be playing on wing or in the middle for that to occur. I can't see them playing him there and not many opportunities to kick goals off half back or in the back pocket. Yze never played in Salem's position.

I haven't been impressed with the calibre of assistant coaches at this club. I think having top notch assistants will help us be a destination club. I get that big successful names doesn't necessarily translate into them automatically being great coaches but it sure helps sell the club. The names of some of our current and past assistants doesn't inspire confidence to outsiders. Anyone got a list of all the clubs and their assistants? Yeah I could Google but hey it's a public holiday and I'm not supposed to work today.

I know we keep hearing media people say that the Dees & Oliver's manager say it's a non-story but I wish we could hear it from the horse's mouth. Not necessarily Oliver but perhaps through one of those fluff pieces the Dees have been putting out every few days about some of the players. Maybe a story about how Oliver saw Trac's dedication over the off-season and wants to take his game to the next level. Sure it's a puff piece but the club must be aware of the "rumours" and this would be one way to put an end to them. It might not satiate everyone but it's something. No matter which side of the fence you're sitting on with this I think we can all agree that next year is crucial for the Demons and if we want to retain star players we are going to need to put runs on the board. We need success to keep players and we also want to be an attractive "destination" club to opposition players. We simply can't be just a "destination" club for dollars because then you can't retain your up-and-coming stars.

Geelong, Hawkins, Dangerfield. I think I just threw up. ?

This could be a big factor. Being in close quarters to your coaches and teammates might not be the best for some people an they want out. Perhaps he saw how other teams operate (ie: Collingwood in the same resort playing finals) and wants what they have. Look at the calibre of our assistants and look at the calibre of the Pies assistants. * * I know the move is linked to Carlton but Clarry would have seen greener pastures up close and perhaps just that got him wanting better out of his career. For what it's worth I don't think he will go this year but if we don't make finals next year we will have an Essendon like exodus.

? Perhaps Goodwin & the Footy Department really aren’t the right guys.

I’m not very confident today but I’m more confident than if it was us playing the Bulldogs or even the Dockers for a finals spot. Better that we leave it in the hands of a competent coach and playing group that will give it 4 quarters. In any event Bulldogs will not drop a game like this.
-
So you have no problem with them [censored] around during the three quarter time break & not listening to the coach when they should be fired up and switched on for the final term? The acceptance of this type of behaviour (referring to not being switched not the inappropriateness) leading to going to sleep and blowing leads is why this club will always be [censored].

Is Luke Jackson even ready to play? What has happened to Lockhart? I was a big fan of him. Seems to be on the outs and can't buy his way back in. What's the deal?

The way this season has ended after being set up nicely is extremely depressing. I'm resigned to the fact that we have already not made it and if it all happens and falls into place for us then I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm simply not going to stress over it. We [censored] it up and frankly we don't really deserve it. I'll only get really mad if for some reason results happen to fall our way but we don't get in because we couldn't beat the hapless Bombers. That is life as a Demons fan for anyone needing a dictionary definition.

The whole production of the footy this year has been a shambles. I understand that the commentators are watching on a TV screen and I believe that this hampers their ability to call the game properly because they, like us, can't see what is happening down field. I would assume they would have more than one camera position available to them unlike us who are at the mercy of what they show us at any one time. The end result is they are flying blind to whatever is happening that isn't being filmed. They do have the boundary riders who are on the spot but they are on ground level and often times you need a bit of a higher unobstructed view to get a sense of what is happening. This is perhaps what I miss most about not being able to go to the footy. Watching on the Telly is just not the same not to mention not getting an atmosphere or the smell of a meat pie or the taste of light beer from a plastic cup.

Except when they grow some balls and suspend a no-namer like ANB. The AFL invalidate themselves when they turn a blind eye to bigger names and not penalising expansion clubs.

Unfortunately for us that is mostly out of our hands. Sure we have to beat Essendon but not sure we can loan him out to Hawthorn or Fremantle to assist them against the Doggies.
-
I could not believe there were no grumblings from anyone within the club about this fixturing. We'll always be a spineless club until we get real Melbourne people in who care about this club.
-
Absolutely agree 100% with this. Bring back Peter Jackson. If I was Bartlett I would be picking up the phone and begging Jackson to come back. If we implode in these last two games everyone should be in the firing line including the faceless board.

I called the club last week and took my membership of auto-renew. I told them if Goodwin goes I'll put it back on. Someone mentioned that Pert gets reports like this. Call the club and let them know you won;t re-sign if Goodwin is there. Money talks.
