  1. The 3 debutants for Lewy Vanders and Hannan. Rarely have I seen debutants get a guernsey for so little form and style. But I remember Greg Wells debuted with No form at end of 1969 (I think) was nearly BOG and hardly ever missed another game so here's hoping Good Luck Tom Corey And Marty.
  2. Sorry but all players will get their chance at Casey and it's a long season Maynard this time last year looked like it was certain but injury cruelled that and form since hasn't been the same.
  3. But there are hits and hits !!! slight glancing blow with no impact and assessment of no damage or effect. AND ridiculous over the top grading ie medium vs low AND " the look " Which is so subjective and if added makes a good case about nothing really So you can manufacture a cadebif you want to and not if you don't !!!
  4. Agreed Vagg. Wonder if the Monday Dinner Crew will be there hopefully for Maxys sake yes.!
  5. Dees fans no longer will be as picky esp as it is the first Round and see my post why.
  6. Good question DL. I am thinking 40,000 looking at weather interest and membership sales so far and interest ie Maxy's 100th plus 2 new recruits which always add interest ( even allowing for rather normal backgrounds vs say Stephen May and his profile ability and persona. However now that this game has been promoted as The Welcome Game another 5/6,000 new fans should be added based on figures vs Saints in 2017 and 2018. In addition I just have a feel that the MCC quota given the Finals figures may rise higher than before so I'm plumping for 45,000 plus on a good sunny day with no rain. PS Power May add support with 500/1,000 fans but if it was the Crows I feel we'd be about 50,000. (Let's not get them scheduled in NT again fir a while). Here's hoping
  7. Wondering if it's deep down self belief along with some confidence. I ronically Billy runs and kicks and that's about it. He is not special in close or with handball or changes direction of the footy much if at all. So he is purely a runner who kicks without looking to dispose properly. Think of his goal in the last quarter vs Hawks in 2016 and that's Billy. Straight line and kick fir goal! (nothing wrong with that but put him 20/30 metres back and the ball is usually in dispute after his disposal or cleared by an opponent. Also tackling is ok marking not great and really unfortunately not strong in body so AFL overwhelms him in my opinion whereas VFL suits with less physicality and more opportunities to run. Feel a little bad about this fir Billy as I believe he absolutely tris and maintains the highest standards and is the best role model in the Club. I really would love him to become a running outside winger a la Hunty! Go Billy the challenge is there. grab it!
  8. Prelim and win and to make Granny Flag yes but hit to give self a chance and make the Big Dance! Flag would be great and 50/50 if make GF
  9. Can buy membership at the Membership tent/s around the ground at the G. Think Gates 2,3 and 5. contact Membership Dept tomorrow Friday and also purchase over phone as well I am certain All game details and contacts are on website Good luck.
  10. Correct DZ Dame as for GC Suns on May 11.
  11. Especially in the Rookie category Maybe they don't do enough fitness work before footy skills? Isnt Shannon Byrne in a specialist role (more off field ) I think? Maybe Max Rookes area ? Snyone know?
  12. Such as poita name names and players please?
  13. Absolutely agree dl4e Will crumb and has goal sense !
  14. I still blame Jack V as I believe he simply said he was ok and "the Club" said ok and it went from bad to worse in 2017 and 2018. Joel Smith Vanders Walker Hannan May Nitschke are a mixed bag some of our own doing and of course about half a dozen have had interrupted and short preparations. Round 1 looks like our last test before the Melb Cup (vs Cats at KP) and it will need every one if our A graders yo stand up and play near their best to get us over the line or be very competitive.
  15. Bad judgement and I wonder if any medical advice was sought in JLT 2 on Joel at Casey. Not sure we have a forward still available other than Pruess assuming Spargo is a real certainty now (Was with me anyway). Surely Fritsch must go forward to provide a skill and marking contest. Bad news on Vanders also exacerbates this news!
  16. Well done Maxy a different 100 games but you wouldn't have it any other way! Good luck and another 100 with a couple of medals along the way will do nicely. Thsnks fit your entertainment value both on and off th field. PS Good luck also with your business ventures!!
  17. R.I.P. Ian Rejoin some old mates and see Round 1 from above.
  18. Well deserved Goody a great day for MFC Four years for much success and culture to improve us further. The necessary tonic to lift us into a dangerous unit on Sat. to open our 2019 campaign with a win. Big day looms very soon in also with the time when we break our Membership record and then onto 50,000 plus members first time in our history. The mini giant is awakening! Shaken and stirred!!
  19. Roos actually played him on back flank and Buckley and his Msnager Alec McDonakd I think said he was A 2 way runner!! Events have shown Roosy was correct and Jeremy has got his wish to play with Pies He was not very forthcoming in his desire to leave us snd I thought he did it a bit by stealth!
  20. The 26 minus Pruess are our best players Yes some are not A Graders but most are B or above. ANB AVB Oscar Frosty Spargs Weed Hunty Garlett Fritsch KK are fine yes with some faults but all are hard nuts who give their all. What is needed is all of them to improve as you said but I don't believe we can't win a flag with any of them in the team. Most in form are automatic selections and Fritta is in the other group I reckon. All players listed are capable of improving so let's see the results.
  21. All good points made by "Weed lovers"! we all knew what the " Hogan type role " is and that's to kick about 2 goals per game. What Sam brings is a more traditional role with some surety in marking leading and bringing the ball to the ground fir our other forwards preferably crumbers. Also a small diminishing hopefully ruck assistance occasionally to Gawny and Pruess if and when he gets his chance. Sam also can mark around the ground not necessarily as good as Hoges. The big difference will be not that Sam May kick more goals in his career than Jesse but he craves and prospers on a big stage (ie big games and finals) whereas Hoges was all lost and bothered vs the big clubs and games hence the about 1 goal per game ave in blockbusters and finals when you need hiM to stand up. Assustance in goals will come from Tommy Mac 50/60 Smithy 30/35 Milkshake 30 Trac 30 (if accuracy more maybe) ANB 25 easy goals AVB 20 tough goals Pruess anD Maxy 25 marking/kicking goals. Clarry/Angus resting 20 plus depending upon time up forward. and crumbers Spargs Jeffy Hannan And say Chandler/Bedford Hunty 35 or more total. Versatile players like wingers and other mids Stretch Jack V Jonesy Salem will also feature. The backline will be meaner as the season goes on with May and Lever finding their feet and a lot tougher hopefully without suspensions. So Sam needs to play his role some days a lazy 2 and others will get 3 or 4 because of his superb kicking. Good base to structure enough wins for a Top4 position to launch our flag attempt.!
  22. Received all 3 tickets for Dons Tigers and Pies games from MCC for Rounds 3 6 and 12. Now transport on the Friday 5th is next hurdle as Richmond station closed to Dand Cranbourne Packenham Frankston and Sandringham lines.
  23. Sorry DS I don't agree. Good and all that Maxy was his best asset is his rucking work for the team That he goes back or forward snd takes marks match saving or winning is thankfully in addition to his major midfield role and we should pray every night that we don't lose him fir any extended streak of games.
  24. I recollect that night it was just as much about our delivery and skill (Jesse was limping) on the forward line that cost us as the umpires. We had approx 20 more entries into the For 50. Thise four final marks by Port along the Members side absolutely signalled our submission. The boys tried so hard but skill (and pressure) and lack of conversion killed our hopes. Later in the year the Swans game was very similar and I thought after that we had blown our chances of finals. No as our penultimate 4 games proved we were worthy of finals ironically without Jesse who again was injured. Those wins go with the Geelong 2015 Hawks 2016 Adelaide 2017 also Jesse less which makes us confident that the future is in good hands on the forward line.
  25. I would have thought the usual end of season memories of some team efforts highlights and positives but when we have finished out of Finals tantilisingly close (for a third year in a row)there are more lessons to consider WHY and examine what is needed to take the next step to serious flag contender from a solid but really unspectacular team that lacks X factor pace and aggression and still forward power to convert opportunities. And please don't expect Daisy to solve any of those problems next year when she returns.
