The above is a reply to Better Days AheadS comments on Tom.

Best for all parties - remarkable really is it mainly good for which parties ? The new team has a possibly underperforming Slowish big KPPlayer Tom does not really want to leave I imagine but opportunity is the sole reason And we want to get rid of his Salary in our Cap and have to gently guide him out of the Club he has been such a loyal servant and great Clubman who will be missed. Seems like most reasons are not BEST but need to happen to try and break a deadlock. I secretly hope Tom stays ( or isn't picked up) reduces weight and gets back to 2018 form in the forward line Or wherever. That would be the best fir all parties Tom and MFC. Oh I suppose Oscar is in much the same position but the may be a genuine Best for all Parties EXCEPT fir the Oscar haters who may in his absence lord their poisoned chalices at Charlie or Smith or even ANB.

Even bigger worry that Petty and Lockhart and Harmes and Spargo are not there Hore is not flexible snd Salem is no good in a back pocket Will do mine tonight or tomorrow .
-
May as well get Stepho and add Jesse to the forward mix and they could have a two for the price if one hooker Hub deal If we are Covid again in 2021!!

Biggest skill is disposal / team play ie something happens ie a score (GOAL) when Charlie passes the ball or handpass Most Demonlanders are besotted with stars if players of 25 and20 possessions. No regard fir the skill of disposal or team play. About time Jayden Hunts 4 goals Few possessions Charlie's games vs Pies and Giants of 2 and 3 goals and 12 possessions Are held as match winning contributions. Ftitta will start kicking 2,3and 4 more regularly I am certain from 12/15 disposals and will be lauded. It is a team game and that's how we will win a flag with 12 out if the 22 contributing a role in the overall Picture.

Amazing yes those floating kicks all floated through fir a GOAL Bingo! And in the centre of the goal too and The others either were goalsquare goals or pinpoint passes to leading forwards. My you are hard to please admittedly gut running didn't feature but his did Tom get from the wing to goal square ? Running I presume and as good as Ed Langdon is he Doesn't do that ( except miss from 15 m out in Cairns) no Tom will do but Narkle would also be a good get and Jordan Clark a great pick.

YW the man short in our defence this year was NOT Marty Hore. It was a genuine third tall ( Oscar couldn't do the job) and Smith was and Tomlinson also entrusted in the latter games of 2020. Smith on Cameron ( 2020 version remember ) was heartening and became a team player and now had 2 years and Tommo also much maligned did a solid blocking role in lieu of our wing poddies he is not suitable for. He's an honest footballer but versatile also is Tommo and defence attack or ruck and an occasional period on the wing is very handy on a team that Lacks changeability. The ideal third defender ( or third tall) is Petty but we need him in attack far more I believe. Yes Marty has his intercept skills but IMO he is not quick enough fir smalls and is not tall or robust ( strong) enough to mind the third tall forwards. He is the only Replacement for Jake as an interceptor but msybe could become more expansive and take the game on like he did with that memorable Assist winning effort Goal vs Suns in 2019! Completely agree with you re Charlie Who might just be Oscars replacement as Whipping boy No 1 if he doesn't deliver consistently.
-
Difference Mullet fir all Charlie's flaws ( and he ironed out a couple this year) he is a SMART footballer who only needs a dozen disposals to have an influence on a game. TB fair Hunt is like that but does not fit in team wise ( he plays more individual style footy) although we must keep him fir his skills TOO. Both would play even better if we can improve our connection and solve a game plan dilemma that suits us on both good and bad days.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

ADD PETTY also !!! -
PF wrong on Hibberd his year was a great comeback from 2019 Was fitter snd back to his best kicking and pace again Deserves this year no doubt. Charlies best vs Pies and Giants is superior than any other HF flanker this season (Other than Kossie) and he looked far more likely to cause trouble when he gas the ball than ANB and Hannan. He has a smart footy brain also. Also lay off Jack I also tjink he plays like a rugby player but the whole midfield still have to rationalise their roles and Yze May be the saviour. When Jack is good he is irreplaceable and we generally win ( WC in Round 1 an exception). Tom is at this stage A debit but all not lost with 2 years and/or trade options we must explore.
-
Yes you must have missed the Oies and Giants games When he kicked goals and was busy and provided pressure. I agree he needs to contribute more consistently but he has more if a mans body now than a boys and ole Yu if room fir improvement, Also Charlie has a very good footy brain and when he gets his hands on the ball usually something happens. Marty IMO is depth and has some attributes But think the problem is gd is an interceptor next ehomarks well and that means he is only an understudy fir Jake. He is not nimble enough fir smalls and not quite strong and big enough fir the talls. Lockhart must be next Unless they still aim fir him to be a rookie.!!

This year we offered a lifeline to Harley Bennell snd it was a ride of faith and hope till in typical Harley fashion a car crash occurred due to hub restrictions and no doubt frustration at not playing and having to watch others perform some not that consistently. Fast forward to NOW and two of the best 50 footballers in the AFL are now looking ( or being forced to look ) for new homes. On face value Their skills are what we want ie an outside mid who does butcher the ball at times ( no more than the odd Melb player probably) and a forward who we badly need Who could head our misfiring attack but who has a litany of personal challenges that prevent him elevating his immense talent to a 50/60 goal a season star. What I am trying to do is Look as positively AS POSSIBLE at this Scenario and ask is there any way in this crazy AFL circus we could manage to Take the chance on both Coming off in our team over the next 3/4 years? I s it worth the risk fir the reward that if successful 2 virtual A graders in vital positions would with another Speedy winger (Isaac Smith eg) I reckon that would Fast track us to a list that could IMMEDIATELY challenge the Tigers and other Clubs. Now Goody would still have to cobble together a game plan worth it's salt and our skills fir about half our existing list still need fine tuning but it's one way we could bridge the gap with 6 A graders and a no if B graders plus the outrageously promising youngsters we have Recently recruited and many players teaching that magic 10O games block for peak team and individual performance. YES we would need to move on Tommy Mac as his salary for 2 years could prevent this idea being realistic Plus the big Contract decisions looming for our home grown stars in Trac snd Clarry Await during 2021. This proposal is left field but bold and has been tried before viz Moore and Templeton In the 70/80's and failed for various reasons. That is not a reason to abandon this idea or reject it out of hand. Some creative accounting and player management real empathy fir the individuals and what they could add to the existing talent and the growth in confidence plus The team first mantra with all on board may just create something that As of now could take 3/4 more years to develop Our full list to a flag chance. Yes it's risky and a bit unconventional with slightly damaged goods but after 56 years I would as a 62 year supporter and 56 year member be fully supportive of this idea or something similar while we have a good base of 18/20 players to kick start a legitimate flag tilt. Happy for and expect plenty to oppose this idea but remember how much longer are you prepared to wait for ultimate success?
-
I am not sure that is correct BDA Treloar is an outside mid IMO rather than inside albeit a bit of a butcher with the ball. That's why maybe we are reluctant to enquire or damaged goods maybe or he may want too much ( Pies must pay day $ 150/200 of his salary for the yearOf 2021.) U would think. Problem in 2022 or before we have to keep Trac and Clarry happy while still may have Tommy Mac on our book. Our enthusiasm after 2018 to lock up Histars of the year Harmes Tommy Mac is now biting us in length of deals and overpayment due to lack of performance in 2019 and 2020. i am Not sure if Melksham May be also in this discussion in a similar position. So Treloar is a million $$$ away or light years it appears even if we want to take a chance in his attitude etc whilst loneliness and missing his family may be an issue at some stage when or if the proverbial hits the fan. Msybe best left in the locker at Lexus Centre.

Dr D your Push Jackson back post is one if the rarer gems of 2020 Covid thinking!! To even contemplate using Jacko in defense other than rucking is Out of left field and ball game over at this stage of his career, Dis you not sense (see) he was a potential X factor up forward with pace grunt and below knee skills and maybe a mark or three fir good measure. Jacko is a special unit and does definitely not qualify for the Ratbags to defense old style call out. You can rest easy Dogga forward March in 2021!!
-
If I were Vines and Jacko and Langers I would ring Peter Gordon of Slater and ... and get a class action on your Assessment of hard working role players biz beasts BTW if they are beasts Jack is a hunter type Jacko a giraffe or emu and Langers a jungle lion/tiger who uses his pace to attack his prey. Love all of them inc Hibbo Vanders and Harmesy!!
-
At least your household had much more respect for Oscar than many Dees fans and D/Lers!!!
-
Prob could muscle up a little without pace reduction and height a Cwood 6 footer who actually jumps and reaches high for marks. Reminder to De la VC is that Jets was prob about 25 when Roosy recognised his talent and saved him from the scap heap as a forward so Jay is right on track IMO for consistent opportunity in 2021.
-
Thank you DrEvil for the update which all sounds very Credible and mostly achievable. While I can respect Goody's knowledge of Brodie Smith haven't we got a defender ( albeit to mind opposition smalls and with run and carry) in Lockhart plus Riv on the other HB flank to Hibbo with Salo hopefully up forward flank way still available. A third Or fourth rounder Might get a good Draft prospect at say 50/55 or a Wantawsy speedster from Somewhere or A Tom Phillips or even a Jarrad Polec with a combined 3 and 4 rounder!! Or am I being a bit nit picky not trusting Goody's judgement ??
-
AF we can only ask Cwood to pay for the contracted salary portion year not YEARS that are not relevant to his existing salary. Besr chance would be say Jetta and Tommy plus Future 2nd or third rounder and Cwood still pay $100,000 next year on his salary.
-
Elegt sorry Clarry better but Jack not quite and Angus a fair third.
-
Is Fin any more unknown than Say Jacko Riv or kossie Or indeed Clarry was before the draft? interesting to see how we conjure the way to get into the first round indeed the top 9/12!!!
-
Jones is just as much outside if not more than in IMO.
