FGS why worry now about the legitimacy potential for this years flag ? 1. We haven't won it yet? 2. If we do it's confirming our greatness. 3. Please don't give it as a reason if we don't win it . It's not negotiable after last season when we took all in our stride. 4. So far we are on track in pre season and many things are outside our control. 5. I bet the players are not sitting around discussing any disadvantages of 2022 preventing us winning back to back. 6. Really supporters that do have got their MFCSS back big time already!! 7. we are and last season played any where any time and any way!!! And we won by so far no one could query the season or legitimacy of our Flag. 8. Let's repeat in 2022 more of the same !!

Part 5: Dees top 100 of the past 50 years – (the top 20)
58er replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably because if the synergy of the Gawn Oliver and Petracca with Jack that we are now lucky to see. For eg if Stynesy was first ruck Todd would have been a better option. In today's footy being an interchange is not an indication of lesser ability necessarily. The medical sub maybe. ! -
Wrong see my earlier posts. If you consider 9 th in 2017 (12-10 ) and 2020 (9-8) bad years then you are being too nit picking. It's well established 2019 reasons for the 5-17 result and If Simon gets us 2 out of 3 flags by 2024 then 3 flags in 4 years is not the sort of result you part ways. By all means give Simon the 3 years extension but to say that's all now if he succeeds and you reflecting in your opinion about 2017 and 2020 to penalise him then is ridiculous.

Well Binman how do you explain the three quarter time score of 2pts.? Adelaide pressure which caused us to fumble not stick to our game plan and to not provide a physical contest in the clinches and around the ground. We were completely rattled from the first bounce and had no composure plus and little strength in ball contests it was an easy out for the Crows snd only the inaccuracy ( and our different game plan) saved us from a mauling. Also our leaders had a bad day and couldn't really impact the game until after 3/4 time. From my TV it was just as much decided by our timid ness and Crows sustained pressure. We did not compete on the same level and looked like a bottom four team. I am happy for you to offer your experience and summary but I MO it is no good glossing over the truth at this stage of the season.

Under Goody ( and remember he inherited a team on the rise since Roosy took over in 2017) other than 2019 with the injury, surgeries and the associated pre season fitness debacle we have not finished lower than 9th. our WINS 57 LOSSES 31 DRAWS 1 from 89 MATCHES which is approx 64% a very good ratio in anyone's language. ONE FLAG also one Prelim Final. His real record is MATCHES 111 WINS 62 LOSSES 48 DRAWS 1 ONE FLAG and ONE PRELIM FINAL. Approx 56% Which is still acceptable. Depending upon your own expectations with our list it shows that you need about 5/8 years to develop a proper sustainable successful list if you are coming from the Rock Bottom that was 2007/2013 at our Club. Yes Jason Taylor you have your footprint hand and mind all over our list since about 2014/5. Thank you to all the Coaches snd FD people over the period from 2014!!

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
58er replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be fair this is only ONE example, you need at least a sample of 5 games minimum to create something "different". -
That's Jacko !!!

Really why talk about Amiss ? We were never able to get him early in the draft and have done a mighty job getting Van Rooyen. All indications are he is progressing well and Picket advised of this in his report. Your Amiss vs JVR is a classic case of better knowing a devil AND NOT knowing another ATALL. Have a look at his highlights. He is versatile and can play back as well as forward which he has gone successfully in WA Colts and Under 19 state Football plus about 5 Claremont games where he concentrated on FF.

Very disappointing We were smashed around the ball as no kids were strong or smart enough to use their skills. Sherriff tried hard but was her own worst enemy with any disposal, we resorted to our 15/20m passes which won't work against top opposition applying pressure. Our passing then made way to 1/2m handballs as the girls played "hot potato " snd went round in circles till a Crow took possession and got the ball to the outside or backwards for a clean breakaway and 30/40m kick down the ground generally yo another Crow in the open or in front of our defenders. As usual Erin Phillips was given a free reign WHO was assigned to TAG or WATCH her? All our much touted top players had stinkers Paxy Hore Zanker ( in the ruck when Lauren Pearce was getting treatment) Harris and Mithen. Pressure and stage fright were the reasons plus general footy standards like staying front and centre ( like Erin Phillips) was non existent. In the last quarter we seemed to break the shackles and had a reasonable system and long kicking game yo our forwards as Daisy controlled the play, Thus us more of a game plan they will get us against top teams kicking the ball to a moving target and the girls swarming forward to create some panic even in the Crows defence. But the ONE non negotiable is that we don't FUMBLE the ball which we did vs Saints also. Half the side looked frightened and it showed big time ie no confidence and a very sub standard 3 terms. Scoreboard flattered a little but plenty of learnings and our game plan needs reshaping and smarter connectivity with longer kicking to position if we are to study in the flag race.

DD he said " he'd require two top ten picks " and I'm my world that means exactly what I have understood . Apparently there is something in that that makes that mean something else to you? Not querying JT nor underestimating Jim in any way but thsts not the argument. I was likening a D/Lander previously writing Clarry in a similar vain and our Flag proved don't underestimate how good our players are. Dogga is a great talent and I don't think he is going anywhere soon ( yet) as he openly speaks so highly of Maxy and the Club. His team ethic is fantastic and loves the boys snd wii relish the WA boys just joining us. I believe a realistic payment and contract extension will be sorted. Clarry maybe also this year if possible. We are growing as a Club towards the best we can be each decision that is made.

DMee I agree with your last sentence but your BBB summary was IMO a completely inaccurate summary of his journey and trade on table. NBB averaged 60 goals per season for NM and we are told that 180 goals was the best in AFL over that period. In 2020 he played about 7/9 games for a very poor return of less than a goal s game. Of course he suffered a knee injury and was not fit for most of the season. He would probably have been low on confidence also and Larkey has started off his AFL career in fine style in the meantime. I dont know anything about BBB and his marriage and non football lifestyle views but he is a very devoted family person and his wife appears to be strong lady as well with fitness etc part of the setup. Contract negotiations had been ongoing for months and a large contract was offered to BBB which he refused. ( May have been around $700,000 it is rumoured ). Something seems to have gone wrong at this point as not much else happened when out if the blue North advised Benny he could look elsewhere ( or wasn't required anymore). If the "Mr Flopsy" free kick story has any legs I doubt it. Ben may have not handled bring injured well and this may have resulted in form loss and losing his appeal as their chief goal kicker and " golden boy" BBB has got frees and plays in a tall gangly style ( Long legs and height) accentuate this. We have remodelled him partly as he is moving outside the arc and he is a good Avenue to goal as well as a reliable mark snd kick and requires the No 1 tall defender. But getting BBB for trade pick 28 with a couple of pocket money trade exchanges is a complete bargain. What is good that has not been said is he is being paid FAR LESS than 7 triple figures and he is totally invested in our Club, assisting coaching our AFLW girls. Not free but our market negotiation skills are still in great hands as he has sured up a flag with about 10 strong grabs 3 goals and been spearhead of a multi talented group of forwards who played even better than the sum of their parts together with a connectivity not seen for a few years. Long May " BBB Mr Flopsy Sideshow Bob or Big Bad Benny " extend those arms (big dukes as BT would say) and be our "long run up " goal kicker for all of his next 3 years of his contract. Dees fans now love his hair and long run up but I think his team play and above all his reliable and straight kicking !!!

And the greatest other than ours The Dogs in 2016 ???
-
Agree FD providing we win as a team at least 2:3 flags in the next 6/7 years.
-
Completely disagree DM To lose one of your players you st RV building a dynasty and to be ready to take over from Maxy roiled be hard to take. One crazy Demonlander ( he will know who he is/was) posted a similar sentiment after we lost a game in 2020 ( or it may have been 2019) saying we round get XXX on the trade for Clarry. As events have proved there is only ONE Clarry and he is so special he just may be our greatest player ever ( if Trac doesn't claim it). Some players are harder to replace than others and we know why. No one comes near their best and they are match winners! They take over games and NO ONE can challenge them. Eg The Granny. Yes Clarry has solved his issues with handball and disposal etc. and is now the elite player who he always looked he would become. Maximum impact and ferocious attack on the ball with an over the top attitude NOT TO LOSE. He often goes his hardest in the last quarter but to be fair it's all the time. So saying 2 picks will replace Dogga is far too simplistic he is special and a champion who wins games already with his unique competitive style Great ball skills and pace that 199cm players don't have and his team first attitude plus he rarely if ever fumbles. We don't know how it will be if we have to replace Dogga ( like Clarry) but you don't know how valuable he is until you don't have him!! Thats why Eagles were bloody lucky they got Josh Kennedy for Judd but that's rare rather than the norm.

We never try to individualise in our forward line !! So no 100 goal kicker. -
PRACTICE MATCH: vs North Melbourne Streamed LIVE on Kayo
58er replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the correction Clint I guessed wrongly. -
My point was that that Clarrie news was old hat ie 5/6 years. We all knew it as I outlined !!
-
Brilliant another MFC "leader" activity to keep us on the edge and at the TOP. Thank you families for also embracing this on a Saturday our flag etc is our reward !!
-
Sorry our other greatest Robbie Flower was inadvertently omitted in my previous text above. Apologies to all !
-
Yes SWYL what's your point We both and thousands of Dees fans have followed the Clarrie career and highlights. Great Credit to him MFC and staff coaches etc We now have a footballer ( one of about half a dozen that are ground breaking and A grade) who could be our greatest ever player. Many if us grew up in the 31 Ron Barassi era and he us at least matched or many say surpassed as our greatest Demon but Clarry is on track ( or is Trac CP5 on track) or are both to join our 2 latter day heroes as greatest ever? PS Maxy says don't forget me !!!

PRACTICE MATCH: vs North Melbourne Streamed LIVE on Kayo
58er replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's the official Practice game not the second one that 2 Clubs are nominated to get together and sort out Tomes anDates. We play Carlton at Marvel in our Official Clash the date has been publicised by the AFL previously. -
Boy talk about this news !!! It's as old as six years ago fish and chip wrappings. A photo of Clarrie when drafted will show him with plenty of weight loss from about 3 months prior to this time say August. Clarrie moved out of home for a period to Mooroopna and his mum ( who I met at the Premiership celebration Day snd is a super lovely typical Vic. Country Mum) used to come down and try and ensure Clarrie had some sort of a diet. He did miss out on the Vic Country team that year not chosen early that year, He was also a late fast bloomer for the Top 10 in the draft and we had to overlook our original choice ( and the popular public favourite Darcy Parish). Credit to Darcy he is now a gun but Clarrie is worth 2 GUNS AND MORE!!

Height is not the only factor in marking FT. Judgement. Leaping ability ( refer to Robby, Bailey Fritsch ) Refer my post on JVR welcome I think. PS This kid looks something special with his marking elite as part of his game.

People forget we kicked 1.9 in that Prelim it was our horrible marking and kicking up forward along with some abominable connectivity with the runners that ruined our chances. Crows only had 9 scoring chances !! Someone ( everyone) have got to be more physical down back also. It's a challenge but we need to make a statement to this mob over there in case we have to play there later in the year, BTW Freo looked amazing last night at Vic Park and Lions weren't too shabby vs Blues on Tuesday. They are far more in the flag race than Pies who are caught up in mediocrity except for their defence.
