  1. Well when someone breaks the story of a 7-year contract offer being tabled to Trac - before any of the journalists even become aware of it -, then you have to conclude they’ve got good info.
  2. I’d go as far as to say it was almost ALL down to player development during the Bailey/neeld years. The vast majority of players we drafted back then were objectively the highest-rated players in their respective drafts (yes, even Jimmy Toumpas). A classic example is that almost any other club would have taken Jack Watts at pick 2 if we didn’t take him with number 1. To then say they “stuffed up the draft picks” would be wildly incorrect and simplistic, especially considering that you couldn’t possibly get that many picks wrong even if you deliberately tried. I mean think about it. Anyways, hard to believe that was 10-15 years ago now.
  3. Being non-profit doesn’t mean you don’t make a profit. It just means that the profits don’t go to shareholders or other private beneficiaries.
  4. Sounds like one of the bigger recent cases of ‘beggars can’t be choosers’. Understand that it has to be just right though.
  5. Not doubting his ability mate
also well aware of his leg issues that year. But he wouldn’t have been training in full capacity before Christmas which was my main point. Agreed on his great form last year and us missing him dearly, but I reckon it just highlights the additional need for younger replacements (hence the JVR argument). I hope he kicks [censored] this year because we will need it, just won’t be surprised if he isn’t playing at his very best given his injury recovery hampering part of his pre-season preparation. But I guess it’s all just crystal ball stuff.
  6. All well and good but that will mean he’s only had half a preseason. What if he performs poorly and everyone starts calling for him to be dropped? IIRC before 2019 he was in a similar position fitness-wise and barely fired a shot as a result (just like the whole team that year). Doesn’t hurt to play JVR if the coaches deem him fit and ready. We really do need to start blooding more youth up that end after all.
  7. Nah but how good is roast lamb though?
  8. Bring back barry prendergast
  9. The only poster I’ve seen who’s gotten the scoops (almost) consistently correct is Goodwindees.
  10. I remember my first beer.
  11. Of course it’s not. People who think it is would be very ignorant ngl. Just look at Geelong in 2008 for the perfect example.
  12. Pretty sure it was just a joke mate.
  13. “Look at me, I’m so different and quirky for having this opinion!”
  14. You’ve got to be taking the [censored].
  15. I reckon it’s pretty evident that Brayshaw’s just trying to pump up his future contract with the club as well as the position issue. Clarry did the same thing 2 years ago and people were freaking out (meeting with Carlton etc) but now he’s a demon for life.
  16. 1. Who said anything about brayshaw wanting to leave? There’s no evidence of that. 2. Assuming he did want to leave, why the hell would you give the captaincy to someone apparently not fully committed to the club as a means of enticing him to stay? That’s bad for culture. Just look at what happened with Congilio and GWS. 3. Brayshaw has had his best season in four years playing in his current position, almost a borderline all-Australian. Hardly someone who is not being used to his capacity. 4. The whole “we don’t want it enough”, argument is overly simplistic, and the fourth-quarter fade-outs would be a result of physical fatigue, rather than mental, which is strong evidence of a loading phase. That being said, teams working us out could very well also be a factor in our current form.
  17. This aged well.
  18. Apologies, please disregard my comment. I read yours incorrectly.
  19. To be fair, you could’ve said the same thing about Paul Roos with us 9 years ago.
  20. Melbourne supporters who say that was the most “pathetic” football we have played in a long time and that we’re “not a proper team” don’t have a basic understanding of football. Melbourne are a system-based team. This means that our team is designed to play the same way week in, week out. We could be like Geelong and change tactics every week to smash bottom sides by 80+, but that’s what let’s you down in finals. That’s why teams like Geelong have done nothing in September. Some of our fans have no idea just how good we have it. We had the same type of performances against bottom teams last year and what happened? We won the [censored] premiership. So those people suggesting that we’re not gonna perform against the better teams as a result of how we played today are absolutely clueless about the game.
  21. Careful bro. If you say say Pert’s name enough times @Mach5 will magically appear.
  22. I dunno mate, this new bloke doesn’t seem to be bagging Goody anywhere near as much as dr.D used to. I reckon he’s more like the second coming of Olisik
  23. Yes, but he won the Brownlow in an era when it wasn’t only midfielders winning it. Much harder (sorry, almost impossible) to win it these days if you’re not a midfielder.
