  1. I just have to say this makes me laugh out loud every time I scroll past it ET.
  2. Hi there David. Yeah, I think there are some points of difference between these three examples you've thrown up. In regards to Gus I think the fact he was already our player and that we used a very high draft pick to get him meant that we were definitely going to go the distance in working through his issues. As I think St K also tried to do with Paddy. List sizes not being a concern in either case at the time. As for Harley, had Covid-19 hit twelve months earlier and list sizes already been reduced it's quite likely that he might be in a similar situation to that of McCartin where the risk versus gain factor has bigger consequences if you get it wrong. I don't think anyone is blind to the possibilities should anyone take a punt on him and make it a success and it sure is tempting with Darren Burgess onboard (although I'm less sure about his work with concussions) but it comes back to the anticipated reduction in squad sizes for me but let's wait and see.
  3. I sometimes wonder whether things are actually getting better or worse. The political agendas of two world leaders in particular have given people with xenophobic and homophobic leanings a virtual licence to flaunt their warped and insular views. One (Trump) infamously describing latinos as rapists and murderers from [censored] countries and the other (Boris Johnson) describing black africans as piccaninnies with watermelon smiles. He also described gay men as tank topped bumboys. Yet with all this information already in the public domain they have both been elected into office by the general public. Go figure.
  4. You'd think that the proposed reduction in list sizes would be enough to put the kibosh on this idea gaining any traction.
  5. It's probably just a business that's paid to set up a site to look like a fan forum. Also known as astroturfing.
  6. Viney was really good tonight, our best I thought. Holding the ball interpretation was in complete contrast to this afternoons games. No wonder people get frustrated with the game. It's hard to know where this GC side will sit at years end but to beat them when they are up and about is a good foundation to build on going forward.
  7. A tight loss against this outfit wouldn't be the embarrassment it might have been in previous years but it would almost surely end any chance we have of playing finals once again at a very early stage of the season. Not ideal with six weeks of lockdown ahead of us and most other games being unwatchable.
  8. Be annoyed for 5 minutes then finish watching series two of Inbetweeners on Netflix. Life goes on.
  9. There seems to be two lines of thinking on this. One is to have it in one of the other traditional football states of WA or SA, both of which have new stadiums with at least a 50k capacity. The other is to have it in one of the two states of NSW or QLD as payback for helping the competition continue for the next few weeks at least and in contrast to both SA and WA who have made things very difficult (and expensive) for the AFL. Until a time when our Dees have no chance of being in it I would want it to take place in the largest capacity stadium of the most accessible and least expensive city to travel to which would be Sydney and unfortunately ANZ Stadium. Thereafter I really couldn't care less where it is played.
  10. That depends LN. Was he hired by PJ or Perty or is he part of the veil of negativity that predated both ? We need answers dammit !
  11. Anyone else at the club we haven't taken a pot at yet or have we gone full circle and are now back at the CEO ?
  12. Dees chasing Daniher ? Shouldn't be too hard considering he can't run.
  13. Might be a good time to merge all of the disaster and impending doom related threads into one big one now.
  14. According to the vox populi on this site they're all as sh@t as each other so it shouldn't really matter which 33 we fly up there.
  15. Hey Cards. I find that in times of adversity it helps to surround yourself with quality beer, food and friends. We’ll all get through this together.
  16. Very good Earl. I think we'll be on in the back room next week as there will be an overlap with the Bombers v Roos game. Haven't been in since last season.
  17. Our disposal and decision making were pure mince today, yet the game was there for the taking once again. Having the playing group together for an extended period is all well and good but if the current training protocols remain unchanged then fixing things could be difficult. Still, today's sh@t is tomorrow's fertilizer. On a positive note the Victoria Hotel in Footscray has now reopened and is showing live games again. It's also 500 metres outside the 3012 lockdown zone. My Plan B if I can't get get a table at The Rose next Saturday.
  18. I don't know whether he's the right guy either Duke but as an organisation I feel we have the right hands on the tiller at present. To hear that we're 'just' a million bucks (give or take) away from being an unassisted club is a really big thing for us. Particularly when recent events are factored in. That said I still wish that Peter Jackson was involved as he just had that 'take no prisoners' presence about him. As for this site I really enjoy the gallows humour from some of our witty raconteurs as well as the interesting facts and conspiracy theories from others. It's just a shame that so many of the current threads descend into that bottomless pit of negativity that Roosy used to mention, cathartic though it may be for some posters.
  19. I seem to remember there was a club called the Blacktown Demons in the old days of the NSL (predecessor of the A League). Anyway, that's my useless fact of the day.
  20. LOL. I see what you did there but I'm not taking the bait JD.
  21. That's great detective work TC. My guess as the culprit would have been the USA and it's sports codes. However quite a few words that we consider to have been misspelt, mispronounced or bastardised by our american friends have actually been traced back to old english so I shouldn't be surprised really.
  22. Hi John. As far as I'm aware the word learning is a single noun and can't be used in a plural sense. To me it sounds as silly as someone offering their thinkings on a subject instead of their thoughts.
  23. He had me until he dropped the non word 'learnings' just now. It's lessons !!
  24. Just had a listen to Glenn Bartlett's radio interview today. I have no problem with him taking the quiet approach on things, at least publicly. A welcome change from people like Koch, McGuire and Kennett. I also like the 'we'll play anywhere, no excuses' mantra from the top of the organisation that will hopefully filter through to the playing group.
  25. Just the idea that we're rightfully called frustrating should at least be acknowledgement that we have many of the ingredients required to be a successful side. Not ideal I know but right now I'll take that over everything that came immediately before the Roos / Goodwin era.
