  1. the public twitter spat in defence of his brother and the whipping he cops and maybe even the treatment from coaches towards Oscar probably played a part in this and as was the case last year when Cwags i believe only earnt a new deal with us coz Josh did i think that for one to stay and one go is an awkward situation and it leaves the stayer feeling bitter. therefore a clean split for both is necessary. i'd be devastated tho if he found some proper AA type form form a few years back down there because we had the player and the need to make that change this season and we should have taken the opportunity and held our hands up and been like we got it wrong, he's a defender. but now that the seasons over i think we need to take the chance to shift him free up what we can rather than continue to overpay him and see his value drop even further
  2. or you could just recruit a forward... why gamble if you don't have to
  3. would be an absolute kick in the guts if he slots in at FB replacing the aging roughead next year for them when we've been lacking a capable second tall defender pretty much since he moved forward
  4. smith is 32 before next season starts. so we have probably 1 year out of him 2 if we're lucky, no offence but i cant see us winning the flag in the next two years as heartbreaking as it is to admit it. Our defence isnt as strong as everyone thinks. Hibbo and Nev are winding down, we are still one tall short coz lever isnt big enough and tomlinson is makeshift (tmac should be played here) and we have 10 mid range players that arent up to it every week they play. theres no way geelong can find 750k to throw at cameron with the list they've got and we cant even have a conversation with anyone apart from the two players most desperate to find a list for next year whilst we way up whether certain players deserve 15th chances to string two games together. smith is just looking for an extra pay day he doesn't care for premierships he knows he's gonna get games and not rot in the twos its irresponsible list management. ur giving him what he wants instead of doing the team thing which is signing a player to build consistency within the group. yeh its good press oh look 4 time premiership player! but so what. you're not allowed to complain when the same 5 players disappoint you week in week out if you're not prepared to be aggressive this time of year. theres a reason no one else is in for him its not smart recruiting. when goody rolls out the 'we've got a young exciting group' every presser remember that he added a 32yo instead of adding more young exciting talent. the only way u add smith is if jones goes but we know thats not happening ik big rant maybe i'm missing the mark but i'm just frustrated that we talk ourselves up so much but continue fire blanks RUTHLESS!! remember
  5. coz we're topping up with 33yo veterans and we think we are gonna find improvements from within. we gotta go for the big fish in their primes. that's what im saying.
  6. or move salem up, has that size to play the narrow wing on the inside like vanders, tomlinson, jones, brayshaw tried but can also hit a kick and move in space
  7. yeah i see that, but if polec, smith and phillips are available all for a 3rd rounder who r u taking? Smith is 33 before next season starts and we want to give him two years, pace and length of kick is the first thing you lose as u get older, just ask jonesy.
  8. KD: Tarrant, TLangdon, Talia, Carlisle, Hooker/Hurley HB: Witherden, CCox, Egg-Smith, Savage W: Phillips, Hunter, Polec, ISmith, SF: McD-Tippungwuti, Narkle, Aarts, Ronke, ZLangdon KF: Wright, BBrown, Ratugolea, PMcCartin per position this is how i'd preferentially target the available players this offseason, obviously there are different factors involved in all. BBrown - don't pay overs in pick, length or $ (did TMac teach you nothing), KPP can fall off quickly ZLangdon/Narkle (AFL website saying go-home WA factor is possibly at play here) ISmith, Savage- age, prefer someone younger to grow with the list core for 5yrs rather than plug a gap McCartin, Hooker/Hurley - injury history i'd look elsewhere first Polec- depends what $ we have to pay Wright - Can ruck good minutes should Gawn go down or play together with LJ + Weid which Preuss couldn't, covers both positions I would take any of those general forwards ahead of our current tried + limited crop (Hannan, Hunt, ANB, AVB, Melk, Chandler) even for a season to see if we can unlock them Key backs + half backs seems like less of a priority but i don't think Tomlinson/Smith are long term options nor Jetta/Hibbo due to age & KK's injuries.
  9. the dogs have so many of his types same as us, i'd be surprised he hasn't exactly shown anything to suggest he's an upgrade. ANB, Omac, Hannan all linked to exits, finally someones making decisions based on what theyre seeing on the field rather than untapped potential and good trainer
  10. once again melbourne over rating where they are, you never saw geelong hawthorn weagles ever feel satisfied with their lists Lake, Frawley, TKelly, Danger
  11. you'd give ryan abbott a year if it came to it
  12. thought zak jones was good and has been all season. Howard played alright too
  13. witherden is somehow not best 22 i think a trade would be similar to the will brodie/peter wright type deals where theyre happy to facilitate therefore a late third early fourth type move. butler was pick 54 as a premiership player, you could get witho the same
  14. couldnt do much more with the entries he didnt receive would say witherden is available for a similar pick, i know which one i'd rather, the one with more than a year left in the system
  15. and then we only kick worm burners and dribbles to our forwards all under 175cm tall?
  16. id believe a dead man before i believed tom morris
  17. dons will have the cap space and the need for tmac daniher mckernan bellcho gone hooker hurley pending they've actually run out of forwards except an oft injured jimmy stewart
  18. everyone is so quick to write off deals. how many times every trade period does a deal "collapse" do clubs say they are way off before it happens would absolutely not be ruling out polec yet. these things take time to satisfy all but if clubs WANT it done then it happens (bar very few) ultimately if u look at our current list there is no way about 15 of those players are going to play in a premiership for us. yet we give them so many chances to prove themselves instead of just admitting they wont do and giving an alternative a chance on the list even only for a year
  19. i agree with you. i think sometimes its not even about upgrading the spot (oh how id love to slip a tarrant across in a polec deal) but trying something different. same deal in our forward line. hunt, hannan, nibbler move them on and give three new blokes the chance to play the same role and see if they can do it better. i like lienert (he's staying on a 1yr deal), hartigan impressed me this year. wouldn't touch the others tho personally. hurley & hooker might become available. Cox, Pearce, Hamling, Logue, doesn't fit into one team at freo... rotham at the eagles is underused (probably too small tho), jackson trengove is still 29 if i was Omac i'd be pitching to the dogs that you're an upgrade on ryan gardner
  20. i think we have to be aiming younger we're not gaining anything by recruiting players to leave in 2 years just yet.id rather see a larger chunk from baker than sign a 32yo. polec and tom phillips (who im starting to like more and more as mihoeck news comes through) are better options and will be around for longer. unless theres someone we see available next year we need a stop gap for a season to get there then i'd be willing but surely you get someone now For years we've had wing issues Stretch, JKH, Cwagner, hunt, tomlinson, jones, brayshaw, bennell, off the top of my head, its time we settle it down
  21. will golds hooked up with a mate of mine two years ago - thats all i know about him, and we beat xavier in his year 12 year so sucked in buddy xx (who's really laughing he's been on a list not me)
  22. i guess with higgins out a larger priority for them because they owe the player more for what he's given them and teh false hope they gave him last year. they'd rather he left (salary cant be an issue for north) and they need some bodies about to lead by example and take pressure off all the kids. but ultimately you'd think theyd rather the 32yo who will be dusted in a year or two over the expensive 27yo
  23. angry for polec sad for tom phillips shocked for isaac smith i wanna know what the people thinkin
  24. angry for ben brown shocked for pete wright who you got
