The One Question Mark for the Dees
1 goal 10 with like 2 or 3 going out on the full plus 3 falling short in the goal square. Our marking wasn't great but let's not act we didn't continue to murder the cats. Granted if Hawkins kicked that goal or they kick the goal off the free kick advantage then maybe we talk about a different game. However i can say what if geelong didn't kick 8 straight in Geelong to win it? What if we didn't kick 1.7 in the final qtr Round 1. We needed a bit of luck, but it wasn't like we didn't deserve it.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?
Preuss deal is weird. Only way he's coming is if the club is worried about Gawn's body. To be fair every player plays hurt and we've seen how much better we are with him vs without. So maybe they want to give him an odd week off next season to keep him fresh. I really don't subscribe to the two ruckmen in the same team when Weid, T. Mac and Hogan will all be pushing to play. Jon Ralph and Jay Clark just touched on the Hogan talk. Hogan's management nor Hogan himself said he wants to leave. Everything points to him being settled. I remember earlier in the season talk was he wanted a new extended deal. So like we all knew already, nothing in it. Now the interesting part is (i'm probably reading into something that's not there) Jay Clark said if you needed to move Hogan on you'd only let him go for two first rounders minimum. Which is 100% right given his contract and potential. However he said you would use them to go get J. Kelly. Now with all the talk about Gaff, Shiel, Parker, Neale etc you'd think he'd say one of those names, but he went straight to Kelly. Maybe i was right and it seems obvious Kelly is leaving GWS at the end of his contract and maybe GWS would bite if they got two first rounders right now for him. Maybe he's also hearing whispers that Melbourne are likely going to be making the play for him which does excite me. Him, Oliver and Brayshaw in the midfield with Gawn tapping it down to them is All star level [censored]. Kelly can also play Half Forward quite effectively, his goal record for a midfielder is quite good. Aside from that i'm struggling to see holes in the team. Like we've got enough KPF and if the club believes in O. Mac and Frost then we don't really need a KPD. I'd say maybe a fast medium sized forward? Maybe go out and seek another defender for when Lewis hangs up the boots? I do like the idea of Petty getting time but.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
If the Weid rumour is true then sorry Sam i wish you the best. How many teams have a guaranteed 45 goals in their team? I'm only trading Jesse if he wants to leave. I'd also only take 2 first round picks with a future 1st round pick. Use those picks to get Kelly and draft a key position defender. Even then we will have a huge hole up forward that we are relying on a 20 game kid to fill.

Meanwhile . . . down at Glenferrie Road . . . .
I swear to god some footy fans are retarded. People keep saying the holy trinity is the best midfield? yeah in 2013 maybe. Look at the numbers and hell just watch Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes, Gawn all go to work. They bring up Smith's been tagged for a while and not looked good. Hopefully if it's true that we do the same. We've got a habit of being suprised and beaten by the obvious

Roosy and Nathan Jones on mmm hot breakfast
I know people like to look for reasons why we lose, but i hardly think 1 hour of answering media questions when Monday is probably a light fitness day is hardly the worse thing in the world. Infact i doubt it has any impact on the weekend's game.

Radio highlights v Geelong
I've listen to Kingy every week because i'm a sucker for stats, numbers and breaking down the play. So i'm listening to his SEN work with Gerard on mondays and Tuesday's with Andy Maher and the Champion Data guy. Also catch his segment on 360 if he's talking about us. Dunstall likes hard tough footy so he's usually a fan of us when we play.

What i'd give to watched the Fox Footy coverage. It's a crime to not get expert BIASED opinions from the great man Roosy. Also i quite like Dunstall and Kingy's work.

Hawks destroy dismal Demons
This game was before Lever had settled, before Viney and T. Mac returned, before Harmes and Brayshaw hit form and before we changed our system to be a bit more solid and not allow the easy out balls. We'll win if we make it ugly and take our chances. Hawks, just like the cats are still a team with champions in them. They'll punish us if we don't play 4qtrs.

The moment you know when you’re going to win
I really thought it was strange they didn't lock arms considering the [censored] about Adelaide last year. If i'm honest i was confident from the get go. We looked harder, faster and stronger. Oliver running through Selwood was the moment when i thought yeah we ain't losing. Classic Melbourne sets in and we don't put them away and i was a tad nervous. Then Viney killed Selwood with that tackle i had a good laugh. When Weid kicked his 3rd i went to the family room to celebrate. Then the cats kick the next two in a minute and i run to my room and pray to god to reverse the jinx i set upon us.

Post Match Discussion - Elimination Final
Still buzzing, can't sleep so i thought i'd write down a proper review. So we'll start with a few negatives because theIr ain't many. We blazed away a lot after qtr time. It felt like out of fustration more than anything, but it was still slightly dissapointing considering how we improved this area the last two rounds. Second negative is the goal kicking, seriously we missed so many easy chances just because we had no composure. Composure is how you beat Richmond, they want you to feel every kick is under pressure when in reality you do have a second or two more than you think. We should've won 10 goals plus tonight. Finally, don't over complicate things. Sometimes we just play on or do one handball too many. Going back on the mark is sometimes a good thing. Positives, so many. I don't know if it was the atmosphere playing it's part but it felt like our pressure was the best since ANZAC day eve against the tigers. The tackling was perfect and the gut running fantastic. It felt like we were richmond today and the cats were us from back in round 5. Couldn't get out of the defensive traps and just coughing up easy balls. Weids stood tall and his second and third efforts were amazing. Something Hoges struggled with when he looked sore. Gawn wasn't even the game breaker, however his final qtr hit out dominance was noticeable. This is massive considering everyone figured he was the difference. In reality we were always the better team, but we had to learn the lessons from the experienced cats during the season. I see Trac not getting much credit and while he did fumble i felt like he was pretty good. He set up the first goal then went a bit quiet, but he can pop up at anytime with a clever handball or deep penetrating kick that can break open a game. Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney had their chance to stand up and show the rest of the comp how good they're and they did. Viney probably won over a ton of casual fans tonight with the elbow to selwood's face and then running him down when he slipped haha.

My 3 word player analysis V Geelong
Jones - Strong when needed Viney - Tough. Relentless. Beast. Weideman - More to come Neal- Bullen - needs more composure T.McDonald - Ragdolled cats defenders Harmes - In Joel's head Gawn - Positioning was effective Hannan - white franklin jr Melksham - not his best Salem - effort was enormous Petracca - moments of class Tyson - a smooth operator Brayshaw - courageous and dynamic Fritsch - effective but quiet Frost - he was okay Hibberd - strong and smart Jetta - dangerfield in his pocket (Nev deserves 4 words) Lewis - experience and class O.McDonald - cool and reliable Oliver - In his element Spargo - quiet but tidy vandenBerg - he's a bull Melbourne - 10 goals better Cats - Stars no team

Changing Of The Guard
Oliver had 3 moments were he went in so [censored] hard and won the ball each time. I think all of them were against Joel aswell. Now all the casual AFL fan's who think teams like Geelong are good just because of the names they have can see the new breed. Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Viney, Trac, Vanders, Hannan and Weids all had moments tonight.

Key tactical issues v Geelong
We don't need to do anything. Geelong have beaten us by our own faults. Playing 3 out of 4 qtrs has cost us, but not taking our chances when ahead also hurt. Both times the cats beat not only did they dominate a single qtr, they just kicked better for the entire game. Our focus in my opinion would be similar to the eagles. Smash them hard and early. If we take our chances during this burst we could easily kick 4 or 5 goals ahead by qtr time. Geelong have their own hoodoo, they suck after a bye. All their fans are nervous about the game because of the bye. If we get on top of them early their fans will lose hope and their players will lose hope. After this it's all about cracking in (like we did against the eagles) and not let a run on. DO NOT play Viney as a tagger, start him in the middle with Oliver and Brayshaw. Harmes straight to Selwood and Frost to Hawkins. Our first 15 is crucial so have our best players on the pitch, pumped up and ready to go.

Who do we realistically target for a trade?
People are scared of going backwards or standing still, but sitting on our hands this trade window isn't a bad thing. We paid overs for Lever and now we have to 'honour' the deal and work with what we got, which isn't much. The thing we've always needed since Roos began his rebuild is time and experience. We drafted some old heads in to support the kids, but now it's time the kids get the time. Another year with the same 30 odd players we've used this season while maybe trying to get more games into Baker and Petty is only going to benefit us. Like i've mentioned before in this thread, Josh Kelly will be wanting to move at the end of next season and if we sit on our hands this season or maybe make some draft moves to try and improve our hand for when he wants to move i'd think we'd be the favourites to get him. Consider our position on the ladder (hopefully top 8 or even top 4), premiership window, offering a decent wage, victorian boy and isn't he good friends with Tyson.

ehh i racked up the two pointers.

Bernie Vince Retires
One of my favourite players since he joined the club. It made it hard for me to be critical of him in his final year. I really hope he can play one more game, he deserves it.

Key tactical issues v Geelong
I agree. It was never O. Mac's fault that Hawkins got off the leash in the last qtr. Hawkins had an okay night for the first 3qtrs but he wasn't a real issue when our midfield was on top. The moment cats got to hit targets with no pressure O. Mac was never stopping him. Harmes does the run with role on Selwood for me and keep Viney as a pure clearance beast. When Viney does run with roles it takes away what he's good at. Back Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney to win the ball and be harder.

Sam Weideman
Really liking Weids at the moment. Something that i've noticed is all our picks in the Roo's - Goodwin era are all great characters who are willing to crack in. When we drafted Weids i was amazed watching his introduction interview in which he said he was prepared to wait for his chance. Granted when he had his chances at AFL level he wasn't a beast like Hogan was, but he has grown a lot this year and i think he will be a weapon in the final series and hopefully a more permenant starter next season.
