POSTGAME : Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Deemania since 56 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was waiting for our plan B all match - to give the umpires nothing to penalise us for - and to generate some wider-field attack lines where midfielders and flankers would be close enough to distribute and take open shots for goal. We are stuck in the deep forwards mentality and they have proven all season to be inadequate for the number of entries we make. Pathetic, mindless, predictable and half-hearted. -

It would be dee-lightful, but with Sam, it just sadly ain't gonna happen. Wasted jumper. Put Petty forward until JSmith is ready to play after injuries. -

Interestingly, Barassi - like so many Demon supporters - was seldom incorrect. Possessions - and the retention thereof of the football for plans C, D, E & F in a chain of continuous possession - are everything. Too many Demons think they are Tracca-clones, going goalward but in most cases, too far out. Bedford needs teamwork to get support for his little cameos and when he is lining up close to goal, it is almost a certainty. It is up to the team to provide that support through not bombing the pill in panic from too far out. I love his pace, his grip-snatch on the ball, his ability to lead to space. That is what needs to be recognised by midfielders and roaming half-forwards; Bedford, like Kozzie, is available. It will only take a bit of training practice and one or two 'game-time' experiences to settle this play, Petal. This is offensive work, not defensive pressure . -

That combination of Kozzie and Bedford could be legendary. -
Variation at the kick-ins is needed and rather urgently. Like our selection procedures and decisions, it appears 'stuck in drying mud' - out to the left-of-centre - rarely valuable and highly predictable. Can we not have a few tricks up our sleeve?

POSTGAME : Rd 18 vs Port Adelaide

Welcome to the real world. -
What a loss it would be to lose Yze. He is ready for a senior coaching role and would sit nicely in charge of what he is already working with - making the Dees great again.

Must agree, Tomlinson was quite serviceable and handy. I have also noticed that he is getting back to his space-making habits to come into and out of the area play, thus avoiding some congestion at the ball - as he used to do when he was on one wing and Langdon on the other. He is certainly, on today's performance, getting much better in the air knocking on or clearing, and many of his kicks were commendable, to targets/zones. -

Agreed, Harmes put stoppers on Port, early enough in plays to have to wait for a fellow-Demon to help out or even take the tap-on. -

May went leftie, again. Time and again. Two teams with two-thirds of the onfield roster lined up waiting for May to deliver the ball - and how few marks, clearances and/or forward progressions were made. -

I thought May's game was rather pedestrian - thank heavens for other backmen. -

I liked it, too. -
Jake is going to have to put in a very, very mobile game to make a contribution. No standing around.

Win or lose this one against Port, I'd suggest that no matter what the opposition's form and talent may produce, Viney will give it his all. The challenge for him is a big one, playing his role with less selfishness that previously, replacing the drive of Clarrie, blending with Trac and Kozzie whilst exploiting what hopefully will be a re-energised Gawn and Jackson combination - in all roles that he must play and under such pressure, Viney usually does produce those special games ticking off all the boxes for which he is notoriously famous and admired. Step up, Jack, and annihilate those Port misfits.
-
When needed, Viney will produce. I hope some of his opponents have unfortunate injuries, as well, just to temper their levels of rule-breaking enthusiasm by which they are characterised.
-
Bedford has real talent; he just needs some confidence - perhaps a little more grunt and mongrel at the ball will assist in this regard - he is fast, he is lethal going goalward, he has an eye for an opportunity, he blends with others well - usually on the outside or in space. If you do not play him with some consistency, he is going to wither on the 'tried that' vine at the Demons. Play him against Port.
-
That foot of his only needs to be used a couple of times in a match - it's a high percentage winner, in my book. I'd make him a CHF, to kick goals of course but also, to exploit his mobility, and apply that foot and its accuracy (high, low, fast, slow) to feed Fritta and JSmith deep forward.

Bite the bullet with Weed. His chances are now historical failings of consistent effort and performance. Whilst he is still young, his moving to another club in different circumstances may be a real opportunity to get his game and contributions together with some personal onfield success. He wears the jumper well, but the jumper is a wasted issue from the Club. So many times he needs to be 'backed-up' by teammates who already have a full load of their own in the process of doing something positive and rewarding for the team against increasingly tough opponents and playmaking.
-
Surely, with nearly three quarters of the ground absolutely free, there must be some level of flexibility for May to kick to advantage - not hope - for a change. All it would take is two leads, two kicks and we are in the hot zone or ready to line up a big one should we have two players with initiative, opportunity and an understanding of the potential within May's rhs vision.
-
Chandler has talents, no doubt - but I'd like to see him come into the seniors as a raging bull type of player with more confidence and aggro. More developmental opportunities (as pathways to resultant success) could produce a player in the mould of Leigh Matthews (at least along those lines of talent) as our current smalls lack grunt and to some extent, bravery.
-
Hunt promoted, JVR and Laurie step up to the big time, perhaps think of Rivers getting a run to replace Clarry as he is good on the ground pick-ups and has conditioned knowledge of the seniors' game plan. We have the space of the season (sitting Second on the ladder) to give it a try - win or lose - so we must stop thinking about getting back to No. 1 on the ladder, anyway.

When you find out how to stream it, let me know ... same problem!

been out of the loop for a few weeks, re-locating back to Victoria. Where can we watch this match?
-
Evil sentiment does exist - directed at MFC and our surprising, recent successes. Sells more copies to those needing a newspaper columnist to sort out opinions. Perhaps Trump, amazingly, was correct; fake news is in abundance.

What They Are Saying at Moorabool Street
Deemania since 56 replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Geelong will be exhausted, exposed and much slower at the ball in the last half of the second quarter, getting more incapable of stopping the Dees all over the ground and by the fourth quarter, most of the Geelong players will be able to statically watch how it is done. If you're going to the game, take some carrots - bunnies love 'em.
