  1. I can now confirm an update on that - the Filth lost to the Swans and are now out, as well. It may well mean that the Swans will topple Geelong in the Granny.
  2. Weightman eventually killed Cowboy Neale's career, didn't it?
  3. Do you reckon it would help if we became 2nd tenants at Kardinia Park? We could train the house down then, knocking to absolute sheet out of the mongrels in navy and white jumpers.
  4. Longevity, reliability to resist longer-term injuries, actual physical fitness and endurance, diverse rucking skills, and other criteria. Possibly better to have a more youthful and developing ruck addition than a 33 year old Grundy who is at the sunset of his footy career, and that youth would need to demonstrate current abilities in advance of those of the Weed. Money could and should be directed to forward line investments. Both a ruck - and a forward - are out there, somewhere, and the money otherwise expended on Grundy would be very handy to find such footballers.
  5. A brief but honest appraisal by Max expressing his thoughts and feelings about missing out on progressing further in the finals this year. I am glad at this point that he did not elaborate on any specific 'onfield' criticisms or other related issues. He appears to be set on righting the wrongs of the season as these affect Members and supporters, so that is a real positive; in particular, his leadership is going to be called upon to a massive degree and frequency in the next season - so musing on the what, why, how and applied methods will take a while - probably until the first bounce in 2023. We are in for an interesting 'off-season' of remediation and reset. Looking forward to the decisions about to be made.
  6. Maybe players get excluded if they wear the red'nblue?
  7. It is a considerable shame, that performance. He could well have given match-winning input to our overall effort. He is still contracted (and was in that game, of course) but did not appear to be capable of accepting the responsibility of wearing the jumper with pride, providing the inputs and outputs that were anticipated, absolutely required and so very necessary for an improved overall team result. Some un-blooded Casey or AFL bench-warmer did not get that opportunity, as a consequence. There seems to be some attitude barrier, perhaps; we need players who enter the field with determination for the team, with the team and share their skills as members of the team.
  8. (a) more running to make space and required fitness increases more central corridor entering forward line and tandem entries/ghosting lock in improved foot passing/goalkicking skills (There are more to add than 3) (b) JVR for BBB (Swap AFL/VFL) Joel Smith for an ageing Hibberd or re-injured TMac Bedford for Spargo (re-train Spargs at Casey)
  9. The very moment that Tracca started limping again.
  10. That is a declaration that you don't go to games when the Filth is playing. Neither do I, for similar reasons.
  11. Little trinkets of garbage are so related to many of our third and fourth quarters, this season. They (the trinkets) might have been quite appropriate and at the same time, condescending. it would also be of some early value to receive little trinkets of garbage in that scenario early - just before game time - as an indicator and pacifier of what was about to come onfield.
  12. Now we're thinking, CovidDan. Just one tweak. There are several tweaks that could have been tried and most probably, were shelved. To get over the loss against Brisbane, I set time aside to watch the Mighty Casey game and by hell, we have some talent down there. Not playing Bowey was a terrible mistake. TMac looked fit to play well. JVR is very competent. Mitch Brown knows where to lead and can take a reliable mark 1-on -1. Moniz-W could be a star with some specialist coaching. Bedford is wasted at Casey. Chandler is solid on-ground and a great team asset hand and foot. Tomlinson is a good defender but his forte is on the flanks, preferably wing, where he still finds terrific space and delivers well to teammates. JSmith is a straight-line mover and kick with several assets required at AFL level. It's more than depth, it is a cue for immediate development for the AFL side. There are others, unmentioned, some with great untapped potential.
  13. Deliberately non-specific, again. Coaching failure and selection across the season may well be the reasons why. These matters needed to be specified, addressed, confronted, implemented and evaluated with reasoned tweaks back in May, through June, July, August for readiness in September.
  14. Reality has stomped on the dreams we held.
  15. I do hope we get these traits next year. However, I also suspect that the competition has risen somewhat from last year - we provided a template of play that was highly effective, particularly in the finals and it has been copied, modified and cloned well by other coaches. Hence, the need for game plan 1(b), 2(a & b) and 3 (a, b & c). All it really requires is for our coaching staff to understand the needs of - and recognise - our players within those future and variant plans - not sink injured or less-than-physically-fit round pegs into square holes. Building 'team' above all else is going to be critical and will require diverse thought, advice and manipulation to effect successfully but that is what coaching staff (including the head coach) are paid so well to do, isn't it? After all, members and supporters, it's your money being expended so casually to elicit 'former' successes in the next round, so you have the right to question the disappointing ground exhibited in the 2002 season. If we can Grand Final our team two years out of three, then I will be happy. If we can achieve two Premierships in that timeframe, we would all be wetting ourselves with joy. At this point, it's over to you, Goody. Seriously.
  16. I did. It seems that as the topic went further, many other DL contributors felt what I was feeling and thought what I was thinking, and responded with supportive comment or additional yet related points of fair discussion.
  17. Our team has no surprises left. Then we further hamper our rare opportunities by forcing 'non-team' (ie: individual) efforts from the few capable of their 'declining, (for one reason or the other) abilities'. In the end, the necessary workload is not shared; instead, we have an exhausted array of great players up and down the field who rightly cannot sustain the effort across the third and fourth quarters. This is not an opportunity for abstract and unspecific 'learnings' as so frequently deferred to, it is an opportunity to to enact alternatives on a regular basis.
  18. It is frustrating to see, hear and then interpret Goodwin's unspecific points of focus. It is almost as if he has no idea, whatsoever. We need continuous development: fitness, teamwork and re-orientation as a team; better preparation and trialling of youth at Casey; versatility of roles and execution; game plans that are quickly rotated, implemented and understood; with these adjustments (and there are obviously more left unmentioned) we can build again to effect improved onfield performances. We have some of the best (at least a third of our team) in the competition, yet it does not show in any sustained manner.
  19. Agree about Yze. Very strongly. The team has lost its identity as 'a team'; it is fully functioning as a series of unrelated individual performances and manic attempts at filling gaps that selection has endorsed. I've always been sceptical of SG, he was not knitting players to a purpose or three and it exposed increasing numbers and areas of dropped stitches.
  20. We, the fans and members, feel betrayed and have felt this way since we lost the 11th game. Goodwin is a major reason for this, and team selection has been very poor/conservative and incorrect. Player development as a team has been negligent. Horrid end to this season; predictable across nearly three months.
  21. Pathetic, so many weekly warnings recently and no response - congratulations Brisbane, you stuck to your guns. Yze should be our senior coach. Full stop.
  22. It is a coaching issue - 'our' method is now conservative reading for every team.
  23. He's just waiting for the ball to come to him, not leading into the ball - and there have been some very good low passes to him...
  24. Don't you mean: 'Hoping for some ... slapstick magic and limp-wristed, hand on hip with one bent knee second efforts...'?
