Fully agree - in nearly every involvement. Slow, exposed, beaten, left standing, limited physical contact, not reading the play with virtually no anticipation; ball rebounded negatively most of the time. Possessions and despatch are both rarities - no more chances.

Big improvements and efforts from Salem and Garlett; some of Jeffy's shots were very near misses so it looks like he may be coming back towards lethal. Salem was terrific. Vanders was good for a return match and should stay in the side to fully recover his mojo for the game. Smith is already a great loss as he was really good for most of his game time - will be sadly missed with what appeared to be a broken clavical. Sydney is going to be a test and Franklin does appear to be the only avenue to goal for them at the moment. Their outside run needs to be quelled early so our use of the bench to match them in this regard across the game has to be very strategic. Frosty needs to be on his game to challenge Buddy body on body. His pace will help him stay in contact where Franklin can be spoiled these days with close attention. I'd like to see Kent come in to display his pace and aggression, and to contribute to the accuracy of passing inside 50 and goalward. I noticed before the Suns game in the clubrooms how 'left out of it' Kent looked as the players left for the ground - he was 'burning' to play, getting back to stinging any opponent, and he would probably be a better tool against the Swans than JKH. OMac on the wing was slow and stuffed up again several times but passing was serviceable and height was useful. I'd reckon Frosty is starting to 'ace' the Fullback position and is blending well with teammates. His disposals by hand and foot can be errant but his body work and positioning are very good. After the first quarter, we had a few players down on recent indicators so let's hope that such lapses disappear against the Swans.

Great game and always, it is fantastic to have a win - and one so convincing as this game against the Suns. However, we must all wish Joel a complete, speedy recovery from a 'dangerous tackle' slinging him to the ground. His game, today, was the best he has played for the MFC with some great intercepts and running pick-ups, good disposals and coverage of his opponents. Well done - best wishes with the recovery.

Cold beer (usually the old-fashioned Foster's recipe in tinnies), and a keg after the game. Some people, myself included, think Pedo is a vastly superior player and asset than at least 5 other players, regularly selected and letting us down in one game or another, repeatedly. Whether fwd or in defence, or in the ruck as Gawn's back-up, which ever you choose to criticise. We are not going to have him for much longer due to his age, and we need him, now. Strong thoughts, I know, but not rash.

My anxiety stems from this worry about the team: How long can we do without Pedo in the game, given the very long period of his ascendancy and great form with Casey - and his well-known attributes to defend, attack, mark, kick, slaughter, maim, shepherd, screen, appear from nowhere, intimidate, punish and win games? Pedo, Frosty and AVB - in form, raging, ready.

It is all good thinking and needs to be focussed upon, as I am sure that coaches and FDs are currently doing. It's not quite 'tanking' but it is 'seeking advantage' and why not? The AFL creates a 'system' where such conspiracies can occur.

I see an AFL interest brewing in the new rules to quell the 'now' problems that the reigns of Whoreform, Tacky Puts, Essendrug, The Filth, Carlscum and Swans are having relative to the 'lesser' teams in the league. As teams age and the rest of us build and strengthen, something less obvious than umpiring assistance needs to be posited to ensure continuing gate receipts and vested interests. The KPs are melting; recruits get games and do well on the other side of the coin. It will be interesting to observe change and its effects. Status quo is at stake.

About a year ago on a trip in Tassie, I heard about this young fella from a knowledgeable local - big wraps and of all things - comparisons with some of the AFL greats.

Terrific round of footy! Helps us if we can control ourselves in the sunset of the home and away rounds. Due to unforeseen results across the weekend, our best position is to make 4th in the top 8 teams should we crucify the Suns today; it must be stressed that percentage is critical to position. Let's hope that we can also maximise our talent base for each game - limited experimentation with 'possibles' and clear standards of winning football including the strategic use of the bench (talent, form, experience and asset-driven returns). Hibberd, Viney, Pedo, AVB, Hunt, Harmes, Kent, Frosty, Wagner, for example, back to form, fitness and impact. We have to play 'nasty' and keep it up, too, in order to cement an impressive footprint on the game that might force other teams against whom were are directly competing to concede surprise and unmanageability onfield. Exposure to solid football and its related confidence of intent will also assist us to negate the White Brethren interference in the outcome of games that we play and the unchallenged nature of such interference at a time when, thanks to this week's round so far, the AFL is under massive public scrutiny for decisions in the plural that it has used this year - in particular - to underwrite the success of certain teams. The MFC must play football akin to the toughness of the Cats and the Hawks in recent, previous years. Now, let's friggin' well go for it across what is left of this season and into the finals. Take no prisoners.

Now that the Toiges have beaten the Cats, I have a confession to make: My heart bled for poor old Geelong. It seemed as if their hip-pocket umpires deserted them across this game, with the loss forcing them well down on the Live Ladder - and the two showings against the Cats by the MFC were - despite the results - very impressive in 'finals-type' football. We move up to sixth as a consequence, and should be at least in 5th position by Sunday night. Things are getting exciting and there is a possibility that with a little more confidence and biff, we could be finishing around 3rd on the ladder prior to the start of the finals. Carna Dees! We'd be second had we beaten StKilda, Geelong x 2 games, and one or two others interrupted by the White Brethren.

Any player is a realistic acquisition given the correct incentives, that need not be purely financial.

You betcha, correct, correct, correct. Aggression is the key up to a point, toughness is even more. My little post before this one was more of a joke or jest at creating friends with umpires who can/do interfere with our games to our detriment in the recent past. That is why I'd like to see our team full of bulls, hitt'em hard-types, no mercies or apologies, see ball-get ball and use it, knock the sheet outta 'em. Do it, move ahead, as you say.

Might be worthwhile - we need an extra real defender and he could be blooded to our game and intent.
