With a whole year off, natural maturation and a big pre-season it will be interesting to see what shape his body takes. He may well be ready for bigger tasks and bigger bodies.

Hadley's story is a really sad one. He was talked about as the next member of the fab 5 at the tail end of the Brisbane run of Premierships. We can learn a lot from Richmond's mistake with David Rodan. Midfielders can comeback successfully from knee recos and it seems like they need a full year to recover and then another year of playing to get back their touch and confidence and mobility. But, as has already been pointed out, he's had two, not one. Definitely worth a punt if the cost was low.

And this from the Adelaide Advertiser: "Sydney - as a first move - is offering a third-round draft pick for Mattner, who reportedly has been tempted by a three-year contract from the Swans. But Adelaide - after dismissing former South Adelaide ruckman Stephen Doyle, 26 - wants at least a second-round draft pick. The Swans are reserving this for out-of-contract Melbourne key position player Brad Miller." I think most people would be happy with Sydney's second rounder (pick 28).

I heard his parents wanted him to escape the bright lights and every-days-a-party adelaide lifestyle. -
LETS LOAD UP ON TOP PICKS AND GET THIS DYNASTY UNDER WAY!

Mate, I love your work. There was no need to edit your work. Your legend would have grown greater unedited. And feel free to call me sunshine anytime you like. Stay gold Ponyboy. -

That's the part that worries me. Everything else says great pick-up. -

That's gold. What does one lose when their credibility bank is already overdrawn? -
THE TRADING CHRONICLES 2007: ZERO HOUR

This is what I can't quite get my head around. All the talk at the moment is about ruckmen. Why wouldn't other clubs be making a play at Meesen? Unless I've missed something, nothing has been revealed about why he chose us. Can't remember that happening before. I would have thought this to be significant. Maybe after the Judd fiasco, what would in the past be considered significant just seems mundane. -

Carlton is about to use pick 1 on a ruckman who has done absolutely nothing at AFL level. As a ruckman who you'd expect to take anywhere between 2 - 5 years to mature, taken as a pick 8 a couple of years ago, he's certainly worth pick 21 or higher. The only reason we should get him cheaper is the fact he's out of contract and we have a pick 3 is the PSD. McIntosh and Hale are good examples of highly credentially junior ruckmen like Meesen who took a little while. Patience is needed. Adelaide will be spewing. -
exactly

He can - but only if he agrees.
-
If or when? You're sounding less and less certain.
-
You can say many things about TJ but suggesting at 27 going on 28 that he's over the hill is a little unfair - not only to TJ but to any of the Demonlanders who find themselves over the age of 30!
-
They don't but they may not have much choice.
-
I think we're over-rating Adcock a little. I see him play pretty regularly up here and he's a very good player but Graz is right, he's not elite. Any suggestion of us giving up pick 4 is crazy. Pick 4 and TJ or Sylvia is just plain scary.

Agree, Scotland an interesting choice. Campbell Brown too high. Shaun Burgoyne too low. Otherwise a reasonable effort.

Players we should be looking at for trade week
Goodvibes replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pace is the key. Schneider, Tenace or Sherman should be targets. All have their limitations but show me a potential trade with pace that doesn't have limitations. -
I thought your club was no longer taking members: http://groups.msn.com/NarcissismSupportGro...iritualStruggle

Perhaps if Travis was a Hawthorn target (to add a little class to the grunt of Mitchell and Lewis) we could offer round 2 and round 3 upgrades. In other words Melbourne gets Roughead and picks 29 and 45 and Hawthorn gets TJ and picks 21 and 37. If we were to use our third rounder (45) for Meesen and pick 4 on the best available midfielder I'd be pretty excited about our three inclusions at the expense of just TJ.
-
Yeah it doesn't make much sense. But the fact remains Boyle, Franklin, Roughead, Dowler and Thorp is one maybe two too many talls all wanting a taste of senior action. With Gilham holding down FB and Croad with a few years left in him and Zac Dawson (stop laughing) still on the list you can understand their thinking. You've got to remember this is the club that traded Croad to get Hodge. Their thinking was shown to be shrewd back then and if they are thinking of getting rid of Roughead in this trade period they'd only do so for a top pick or an elite midfielder.

Mark Riley to Carlton And Josh Mahoney To Us?
Goodvibes replied to deestroyers's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looks like both at this stage. Mahoney locked in I think. Cripps likely. -
More evidence of the advisory groups vision. He may not be Al Gore but . . . http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...124-664,00.html

Mark Riley to Carlton And Josh Mahoney To Us?
Goodvibes replied to deestroyers's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is from today's Australian - Assistant coach stuff plus the obligatory Judd reference: Former St Kilda player Jason Cripps is being lured back to Victoria by new Melbourne coach Dean Bailey for a similar role with the Demons. Bailey, who was an assistant with the Power before leaving on the eve of the finals to take on the senior job at Melbourne, has poached recently retired Port forward Josh Mahoney to return to Victoria as an assistant coach. Cripps, who is understood to be keen to return to Victoria for family reasons, is contracted to the Power for one more season. Melbourne believes Chris Judd could make his preferred destination known as early as tomorrow. Chairman Paul Gardner yesterday denied that the Demons had become frontrunners for Judd. "I've heard a few whispers, but it's all news to me," Gardner said yesterday. "We might hear something on Sunday." Meanwhile, Collingwood assistant coach Adrian Fletcher has been told by the Magpies that his contract will not be renewed. Michael Broadbridge, who has worked as an assistant coach at Collingwood and Fremantle for the past eight years, has joined West Coast as a skills coach. And former Richmond player Ashley Prescott, who has coached Claremont in the WAFL in recent years, is set to join the Dockers as a development coach.
