The only thing I think we have wasted again is a realistic oppertunity to finish top 4. Losses to Geelong, the Lions in particular and to some extent Richmond were games that I think we could look back on and rue as winnable games we let slip. Our slow starts to seasons are killing our best opportunities to win flags. As I see it, we have still got a good oppertunity to just make finals from here, if we continue build our form and start to beat teams above us like Collingwood, Bulldogs, Essendon, GWS and St Kilda that I think we are more than capable of. If we keep our list healthier than everyone else, maybe we stand a better than average chance of winning a flag from outside the top four. As much as anything though, realistically I'm looking at making finals as an oppertunity to test our team and game plan against good opposition to set-up a genuine crack for next season. I wouldn't call that a wasted season. Beyond all else, how can Mick call it a wasted season when it isn't finished yet? A lot could play out from here. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

I'd really like to see either Hunt or Hannan back in the side for ANB and/or AVB. I think they both have a bit to offer. It's true that they can both be a bit hot and cold, but I think both of them were somewhat victims of playing a bad game on weeks we had loss. The extra pace and footy smarts these guys would bring into our forward half would be very valuable. They should both also have super fresh legs compared to a lot of blokes playing off 4 days which should also help. I think there is a place for both Hunt and Langdon in our side. Langdon's disposal in the forward half is pretty ordanary, where as I think that's where Hunt's disposal is best. Asides from those two, the other I'd be considering bringing back into the forward line is Kosi.

If we can't beat North without Max and Viney and a near complete list of fit players from which to replace them, we are going nowhere this season. Similarly Collingwood will be without DeGoey, Adam Treloar and Jeremy Howe and playing off a 4 day break compared to our 6 - don't expect they will raise the white flag, though I do think it's a game that we should win.

They do say necessity is the mother of invention and sometimes I think you need to be put in that position where you have no other alternative than to take the leap of faith to try something new. The other potential eventuality is that we just stick with the same kick in strategy and substitute Max with say T Mac or May.

That's where there is a place for him in the midfeild I recon - when the opposition has a dangerous player that we need to nullify or when an opposition midfeild starts to get on top. He really should have been thrown in the guts against Port and/or the Lions.

Like what the Weid has bought since he has come back into the side. Plenty of aggression, attack on the footy and is starting to look dangerous. He's normally a very good set shot for goal which is one of his strengths, I just wish that he had nailed one of his multiple shots on goal against the Lions a few weeks back. I think the wind down there at Carrara was a bit tricky, but if he's going to be a gun forward, kicking set shots with a bit of wind and/or under pressure needs to be bread and butter stuff. Look forward to see where he can get to over the course of the rest of the season with some continuity and hopefully no more major injuries.

Not sure how Preuss is travelling, but I'd personally like to see us throw a combo of T Mac, Tomlinson and Jacko at Goldy and Daw. I think it's a good oppertunity to run T Mac into some form. They shouldn't change up the Weid in the ruck now that he's finally found some confidence form as a key forward and he's undersized for being an effective around the ground ruck the way he plays it really.

Salem did start one of those chains of possessions up the ground that led to us beating the Eagles and making finals a few years ago. It was an effective pin point pass to a good position from memory. I feel like Salem's a bit out of form and not presently playing to his potential. That doesn't necessarily bother me that much, because he's a quality player and I think he'll come good at some point and tear a game apart for us. I actually think it's a good sign that the team is winning games without all of our stars firing on all four cylinders. I recon watch out when the whole team switches on and screams into action.

Charlie Cameron blocked Max's run to get into positions to mark outside 50 from kick-ins multiple time when we played the Lions. Nothing dirty, but just being an annoying little [censored] standing in his was and basically shepherding without putting his arms out repeatedly. It was so bloody blatant, I don't know how one of the umpires couldn't have seen it. It's clear it's become a tactic to reduce Gawn's influence. Max is a gun and it's to be expected that he will attract attention and that teams put a lot of effort to try and curb his influence, but when it's Max Vs illegal tactics from 18 other players, that's complete BS. What should also happen is that when one of their's attacks Max, it should be two of ours getting into them and turn it into a melee if we have to and/or maybe we should just nominate a player to shadow Max around as his body guard to clear the path. If the umpires aren't looking after Max, it's time our boys stood up a bit more for their warrior skipper.

I agree about the dinky kicks out of defense to a fair extent. If you kick long and turn if over, at least it's got further to come back. Also in the camp for seeing Rivers given another go. His line breaking and long accurate kicking out of defense has so much promise.

He did push up the ground a few weeks back, I forget who against (the Suns perhaps?) and was deliving to good effect inside 50 and kicked a goal off a turnover. More of that please.
