As an asides, I actually think playing Rd 0 was an advantage to us. Rd 1 teams are usually a little scratchy, but we had a proper game last week, not a practice match per the dogs and think we are that bit more match fit as a team compared to them. Well at least that's what I told myself during the week after our loss to the Swans and I guess it transpired as such.

I should add that I use to have alot of respect for Harmes (and still love him deep down too), but also have more love and respect for May.

Instead of all our games being played on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday night - yes absolutely!

I've heard the lore of all these great VFL games he's played, but I'm sorry every time he plays at AFL level he looks scared and out of his depth.

Yeah, don't get that at all. I hardly think I've see Laurie play a hard contested manner or with a defensive mindset. In neither of the practice matches did he show any class and poise handling the ball that is suposely his one wood. Look good on him if he goes on and proves me wrong, but from all I've seen, he's just not senior AFL standard. We have plenty of other up and comming players like Wowewodin, Kynan Brown, Throstrup etc that are already ahead of him and don't see why we keep gifting him games or why we extended his contract. Hope he's only getting paid peanuts. Billings on the other hand had been great in both our practice matches. Looks to be a really solid citizen off the field and would think he would have been oozing our club values. I thought it was a huge mistake to play him starting as the sub last week.

He had sticky hands today thats for sure. Everything he went near he cluncked clean as. Has great forward smarts too.

I think Harmes went hard on May, gave a bit of niggle and Maysy wasn't having a bar of it. Seriously how stupid would Harmes have to be going May.

Can someone please tell the MCG staff to TURN THE PA SYSTEM DOWN. CAN'T HERE MYSELF THINK. I know it's been this way for several seasons, but seriously it's ridiculous. Doesn't improve the experience, it makes it worse.

Throw a bunch of spare salary cap money at him and see if we can land him. Would love to see him back (imagine him and JVR in the same forward line). Equally I don't mind him being at the Giants and hope he continues to go well for them - just not against us!

So I think this is the sort of good news story this thread is about: What champion bloke. Said it in the other thread, that alot has been stated about our culture, but the media should have a good look at this bloke and see what character and culture is all about. Watched him in our practice match against Richmond and thought he's clearly too good for VFL. Best of luck to Marty on Sunday and hopefully there is a great second career in the making here at the Demons. Worthy wearer of the No.27 too - love that he's got that number which has belonged to some great MFC defenders in my time as a supporter.

Goto say, I think Tomlinson was very stiff being dropped. I haven't re-watched the replay of last week, but thought he was pretty solid and one of our better players last week. Great work by Marty Hore, T Mac and BBB working their way back into the side. Will see how they play, but I think all have worked hard in slightly different ways to get their way back into the senior team. If T Mac and BBB are sufficiently fit, then their more than capable of putting in good football performances. Marty Hore - what a great effort in preservance to make it back from the VFL after being a mature age rookie to begin with. Talk about MFC culture, I think this guy is made of the right stuff in this respects.

It's a pitty he isn't still in the Red and Blue really, I think we could be a bit thin for KP backs if May gets injured and our young guys in development don't come through. Wounder how long he has left on his Freo contract and if we could actually lure him back?

We were lucky not to loose in similar fashion in Rd 1, 2021 against Freo at the G. Look what happened after that. It's Rd 1. Relax, it's a long season.

Watched this happen first hand against Brisbane at Cararra stadium back in 2020. Charlie Cameron was blocking/shepherding and interrupting his free run at the contest practically every kick-in. Yet not a single free kick was paid. Just imagine if this type of behavior happened with Buddy. How Gumby supporters like me can see this and the 1000 umpires on the ground can't is beyond me. Particularly when there are umpires in the stands that see goals that are touched in slow motion (when they arn't) and call clear goals behinds with the same brilliant technology. BTW, I don't think it would be any use if we tried to support Max in this regard, as they'd see the free kick for any kind or defensive/retalitory action instantly. Some players and team are protected species, yet ours clearly isn't in this category.

Please I'm begging - someone show me the vision that shows ANB's goal was actually touched. Unless someone can, I'm calling them absolute cheats. They have already got away with it once.

Nup. The match review upire was clutching at straws when he reversed that goal of ANB's. Sydney wouldn't have even played finals last year if it wasn't for those fools.

I know we played a shocker, but the umpires were way worse. We only lost by 20 odd points and momentum means alot in modern footy. Here's 4 obvious examples of were we got well screwed over: 1. ANB's reversed goal (I've watched it 10 times and than match review guy must have been on some good drugs to see fingers move). 2. Free kick out of nowhere to Heeny for an incidental high contact a mile off the ball - we were out. 3. Only 50m penalty of the night for what? 4. Max gets pushed out/Sheparded of the contest that opens the way for an easy Sydney mark straight in front. 5. Steve May gets his head ripped off going for the ball - play on. Max clearly targeted, particularly late in the game - if he was Buddy, just imagine how many few kicks and 50m penalties he would have got. Sure we didn't play to our ablity, but put the pressure back on them and all of a sudden Sydney don't look so great either. Look forward to the rest of the season.

AFL have got their opening round wish. Umpires have it to them. Gawn has been man handled all night. Just pushed out of the contest in front of Sydney's goal - no free. What [censored] BS
