  1. 1. Grimes 2. Garland 3. Jurrah 4. Blease 5. Watts Morton, Bennell, Moloney, Frawley, Warnock make up the next 5.
  2. Agree. I think too many people here rip into Joeboy just because they don't agree with one of his statements. The point is to create discussion, not for Joeboy (or anyone else) to tell everyone how to perceive a player.
  3. This is the final membership ladder for 2009: Hawthorn 52,496 Adelaide 46,472 Collingwood 45,972 West Coast 43,927 Carlton 42,408 Essendon 40,412 Fremantle 39,206 Geelong 37,160 Richmond 36,981 St Kilda 31,906 Melbourne 31,508 Port Adelaide 30,605 North Melbourne 28,340 Bulldogs 28,215 Sydney 26,269 Brisbane 24,873 Poor Bulldogs. Can't get 30,000 on the back of a prelim last year.
  4. Full credit to Ten for allowing her to have a go. And full credit to Kelli for cracking a male-dominated industry. But as I said in another thread, it borders on the incredulous that Ten could give her 3 consecutive Geelong matches when her bias towards Geelong is so blatantly evident. Made for shocking commentary, given that she was paired with Hudson.
  5. Refering to YM's original post: I agree with the comments on Robbo and McDonald. Junior surely won't play on next year, and shouldn't. He is past it, despite years of valiant service. I'm not convinced that McLean isn't carrying an injury. But if he's not, he needs to work on how he's going to deal with tags, and how he's going to improve his fitness. Robertson is almost gone. Goes to ground in every contest, pins his hopes on one or two token chases, and isn't providing a consistent target. But he is getting the number 1 defender most weeks at the moment. The comments on Bruce were unfortunately pretty accurate for the weekend's game, however, Bruce has been good this year.
  6. This is the issue. Top picks don't guarantee a star player. But the best chance of getting a star player is with those top picks. So we do ourselves the best chance of winning a premiership by getting the best crack at picking a star out of the draft this year. By winning more than 4 games this year we won't be giving ourselves the best chance to climb up the ladder. That doesn't mean we won't win a premiership in a few years. It means that we aren't giving ourselves the best chance to do so, and that's why most people want to see us win no more than once more for the rest of the year.
  7. Good point YM makes. He mightn't be able to sledge, or understand when others sledge him, but he does seem to like the old hip-and-shoulder.
  8. Prefer Morton up forward to down back. But I think his best work will come on a wing. Dispense with the loose man across half back role. Play him forward/midfield for the rest of the season.
  9. Her commentary wasn't horrible, but her bias was unbelievably obvious. Which begs the question: of all the games for Ten to let her call, why have they given her 3 consecutive Geelong matches (next two weeks she's doing Geelong v Hawks and Geelong v Collingwood)? Along with Huddo, it made for some pretty poor and one-sided commentary at times. In case anyone still cares: 6 - Moloney 5 - Grimes 4 - Petterd 3 - Morton 2 - Bennell 1 - Jurrah
  10. Agree. Think Jobe Watson, and how important he is to the Essendon team. Mind you, I reckon Moloney's hands are alright.
  11. Mark Stevens in today's HUN: Mend fixture to end tank talk He puts forward the already-raised idea that PPs should be awarded after 15 rounds to teams with less than 3 wins. The first 15 rounds should be played against the 15 other teams, rather than having instances of clubs playing twice in 9 weeks, and others not playing till round 21. The reason why I like this idea as opposed to the NBA lottery-style draft is because, after Round 15, the biggest incentive for teams is to play out the remaining 7 games looking for a win each time. With the lottery, I'm sure we'd still see tanking occuring, since finishing 16th gives you a greater chance of getting pick 1 than finishing 13th.
  12. This is one of the more stupid things I've read from you. How do you expect him to 'take the next step' when he's been injured all year? A ridiculous statement. And if you're looking for a 'dominant skill', try his kicking. His set shots for goal are brilliant.
  13. If the financial impact wasn't severe, I'd look at elevating and playing as many rookies as possible (especially McKenzie and Hughes). Great way to see where they are at, the club gets to assess their positions on the list, and it helps us with 'list management'. You can only glean so much information from VFL form.
  14. Lol.
  15. At an extreme level, imagine a club with 4 wins after 15 rounds, thereby qualifying for a PP. If this club then wins its last 7 games, finishing on 11 wins, finals are a possibility. So we could have the premier getting the first pick. Very unlikely to happen, of course, but it isn't impossible. I think the best way to reduce/eliminate tanking is to remove the PP.
  16. I thought Wheatley played poorly, both against Port and West Coast. I keep thinking that the only reason he's in the team is because he can kick the ball a long way. If it was up to me I wouldn't be wasting time playing him. I'd rather see younger players in the team. But I think I'm in the minority on this one.
  17. Agree BBP. No more than 2 interstate, and it would be preferable if they were both in Darwin. For the selfish reason that I want to see us play at the MCG as many times as possible.
  18. Of course this is what the club says. As if they would admit that, yes, we're looking to manage our season such that we only win one more match so that we get pick 1.
  19. Late, yet again, but anyway: 6 - Bruce 5 - Green 4 - Petterd 3 - Jurrah 2 - Jetta 1 - Moloney
  20. A largely unheralded player, is Warnock. Although he did get a mention in one of the papers (HUN I think).
  21. In: Cheney Out: Bell Don't swing the axe after wins.
  22. Over the next few weeks I think it's imperative that we give game time to McNamara, Cheney, the promising rookies (i.e. Hughes, McKenzie, maybe Spencer if he's fit) and Bail. I'd prefer them in the team to Miller or Newton.
  23. Must work on his kicking though. And his tendency to give off a handpass straight away, without checking to see if there are options up the ground. But overall I thought he played OK yesterday. People underrate the value in having someone like Morton who consistently reads the play, knows where to position himself, and gut-runs all day to ensure he provides a target.
  24. A bit sad to say this 24 hours after he does his shoulder, but why the hell is he on our list for next year? What kind of misjudgement was that? He showed again yesterday why he is not up to AFL standard. I feel for the poor bugger that he has done his shoulder, but I find it absurd that he will still be at the club next year.
