  1. I can't believe they brought Baker in for a ruckman. I guess Kosi is going to have to ruck now as the second ruckman, but Brown's been in good form so that's not the easy task it sounds like. As for Davis, well, he's a big-game hack, so I fully expect him to have a stinker.
  2. Well the teams are in, and Collingwood has pulled a shock of sorts by naming Presti and Leon Davis. Nathan Brown and Tyson Goldsack are the two unlucky guys who get dropped. And the Saints have pulled an even bigger shock, dropping McEvoy, a ruckman, for Steve Baker! 3. This is a salient point IMO: if it's there, it will be used. Teams will use it just to get a 2-3 minute break while the umps check the decision, especially if they're one down on the bench. It allows for messages to be relayed, changes to be made, drinks to be had etc., all while the game is paused. There have been a few more incidents this year than the last few (e.g. Byrnes' non-goal, Dunn and Green in our Friday night match, Gardiner's last Friday) but again, I reckon some better umpiring will solve the problem.
  4. Sorry to continue this debate rpfc... What is ridiculous about it is saying that an 80% white jumper is going to be a bad design no matter what it looks like. That's rubbish, and like I said, go and have a look at some of the designs some of the members here have made and put into the clash jumper thread. Exactly.
  5. How frustrating. Well, I guess that's the price you pay for such a lacklustre opening game. Our NRR took a hit because of that game, and despite beating CSK and thrashing the two other sides easily, we're out of the tournament. I maintain that we're the best team there. At least the most well-rounded.
  6. The camera in the goalpost used in the St Kilda vs Dogs game was a failure. The resolution was too low, the frame rate was too low, and the camera's position was such that you couldn't even see Lake's fingers in the shot. Total failure, and the perfect example as to why we don't need video technology. The best way to ensure goal umpires don't make mistakes? Get a second one down there, and bloody well train them better. All these rule changes that have been proposed of late, most of them have been designed to make the game easier for umpires (field or goal). Why not make the umpires better at what they do?
  7. Your first post wasn't so bad, but this is a bit ridiculous. In fact it's ludicrous. That other thread that was doing the rounds, there were plenty of good designs in that thread that were white jumpers.
  8. It's not really. I'm attacking those who suggest that our history is important yet whose argument seemingly goes against said history. Sorry if you took that personally, DC, but you seem to have an argument that says that we shouldn't have white because it's not a part of us being 'red and blue', and yet it was. I don't particularly like the white jumper either, but not because its white. I don't like it because of the design. Personally I reckon if we could get a decently designed jumper, even if it was still white, there'd be less complaining.
  9. Hopefully the Warriors from Sth Africa beat the Super Kings (or better yet, it rains), so we qualify for the semis. And it would be against South Australia, too. Our form is dramatically on the way up, with 3 wins in a row after that early loss. It would be kinda hard to swallow for the team I reckon to finish 3-1 and not make the next stage.
  10. Why? He was suspended for an offence committed in a finals game. Not a home and away game. So there's no reason at all why he should have been ineligible for the 2009 Brownlow. As for the 2010, again, he didn't commit any offense in the 2010 home and away season. Sitting out matches for a suspension from the previous year is akin to missing games through injury.
  11. Huh? So what we were is a part of our history, but not important enough to have any bearing on the modern day? Pick what you want. Do you want to totally ignore our history for the sake of your borderline-pathetic argument, or would you (and DC and WYL) care to wake up, take a reasonable stance, accept that white was a part of our history, that we are a club that respects our history, and that the white on our jumper is OK?
  12. Judd should have been ineligible. That aside, he will always poll well when he is in a team like Carlton with no support. It's a fair indictment on Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson and co. that they all polled quite low relative to Judd.
  13. Well he got one. 1 vote in Round 5 vs Brisbane.
  14. There would have been no issue if Collingwood had finished below St Kilda. Check out this video from Round 3 this year (Riewoldt does his hammy game): Clearly Collingwood's wearing its alternate strip and St Kilda is in its regular strip. So that wouldn't have been an issue. AFAIK the white/dark shorts issue is solved easily whereby the team with the darker jumper wears the dark shorts and the team with the lighter jumper wears white. For example, Fremantle wore its home guernsey against Geelong, so they had purple shorts whilst Geelong wore white.
  15. For mine the most intruiging part of the lead-up to the GF is the Presti debate. On the one hand, Riewoldt's in fine form, he's a proven match-winner, Presti's played on him before (and done well) and Collingwood's key defenders (Reid and Brown) are young, smaller, probably less able to run with him all day, and inexperienced. On the other hand, Presti hasn't played since Round 20, and bringing him in would both break up a successful backline and mean shattering the dreams of one of Reid, Brown or Goldsack. If I was Malthouse I'd play Presti. I can't see any other Collingwood player doing a good enough job on him, and he will be the key IMO to St Kilda winning. FWIW I think Collingwood will win (sickening as it is) with Pendlebury winning the Norm Smith.
  16. You know what I meant. And if you don't, then I'll spell it out for you: Alwyn Davey sucks. He really, truly, sucks.
  17. Doesn't do anywhere near enough. A nice kick for goal, and that's it. Plus he's just another medium-sized forward. And we don't need his ability to defend.
  18. There's talent in there, but we've already got Spencer on our list, so our quote of gangly, unco-ordinated giraffes is probably filled at the moment. Seriously, he will most likely become a good player but I reckon they'll keep him. Kozi can't hold that FF spot forever.
  19. Blair is. But I like Blair, he's good, and I wouldn't say that Jones is much better. Point is taken though. Swan, Pendlebury, Ball, Didak and Thomas are streets in front of our midfield at the moment, so keeping players like Jones in the side hamper our attempts to get a premiership-quality midfield.
  20. Right. So until we win 2 premierships in three years we are forbidden to pass any form of critical judgement upon any Geelong player? Further to that, we cannot comment on Jason Akermanis, nor James Hird, as no-one from our club has achieved what they did. How ridiculous.
  21. So if you finish on top, you can't play 2nd, because that would be stupid, right? So you either play 3rd or 4th in the first week. Why would you then make the minor premier get the tougher opponent in the first round? If I was Collingwood, I would definitely have preferred the 4th-ranked team first up, get the win, the week off, and prepare for the 3rd ranked team (which is the most likely scenario). There is no problem with the current system. Any argument against it that I've heard can always be countered.
  22. He's not that fast. And what Wonna has that Davey doesn't is an ability to impact on a game. I'm not exactly what you'd call a 'Maric fan', but if getting Davey meant losing Maric (which it wouldn't, but anyway) I'd stick with Maric.
  23. Maybe back in 07 (his AA year) he showed a bit of skill. But the last two years he's shown nothing but aggression. Sure, every team needs someone with a bit of mongrel, but not only is that all Brown's shown over the last 2 years, but he sometimes just takes it too far (e.g. last year with his stupid comments after the Essendon match). Right now, in 2010, I don't rate Campbell Brown at all, apart from his strength.
  24. That was all in the second half. Junk time. Meaningless. When the game is there to be won, and the opposition is half-decent, Podisadly can't cut it. He dominates when he (and the team) beat up on lower-ranked sides, but he gets exposed for a lack of pace, no second efforts and poor ball-handling skills, especially below the knees, when the opposition is good.
  25. No, there still isn't room, for the simple reason that there's no room on our list for a 27 year old player who just isn't any good. This discussion would only have merit if Alwyn Davey could play AFL football. But he can't. So this discussion is a ridiculous waste of time.
