  1. I think this sums it up, Mach. Has he done enough to earn another contract? I reckon it's touch and go at the minute. I think he has done enough to catch the attention of someone like the Suns, though, where he might get a consistent crack at it in 2019. I wouldn't be averse to giving him another year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he misses out either.
  2. To be fair, that's almost 50 years ago. Times change. I can't see Freo supporters going round to his house about this incident. I think his reaction to it and his immediate apology after the game will be enough to calm down even the most over the top supporter. He isn't Barry Hall after all.
  3. Correct. I loved it when we signed Lewis and he hasn't exactly got a perfect reputation for on field behaviour. What Gaff did was terrible, but it doesn't change the fact that I think he would be a very handy addition to our side. Gawn to Oliver, handpass out to Gaff who runs 10 metres and hits Hogan on the chest. Rinse and repeat. The bloke will do his time for the punch and then he can move on from it and do all in his power to rebuild his reputation in the game. Melbourne can help him do it.
  4. Very true. I'm probably trying to be a little more optimistic than I should be, but 100 point drubbings are still difficult to achieve. I could see them getting one over GC, but I'd expect Freo to put up more of a fight.
  5. They won't win both by that margin. Just won't happen. They might win one, but two in a row isn't in them. I know Hawkins is in decent form, but they don't have the firepower like they used to. 10 goal wins is more realistic.
  6. I doubt Pedersen plays. All they have is Franklin and some smalls who pick up a few scraps. We don't need another tall. Wagner for Smith makes sense. If Melksham is ready then he'll get a run, if not then I think we just go with the one change this week. Hard to drop someone when you win by 96 points.
  7. It's great to see Vanders back in the side. Whether or not he'll stay there long term is beside the point right now. He will get a few games to show his worth and potentially get himself another year on the list, where he can have a proper pre-season and hopefully get back to some of the form he displayed a few years ago. I still think he has something to offer. Spot on. What he has done for us this season has been excellent, even if he does fade in and out of games as most rookies do. In time he'll be able to build that core strength and running capacity. He already has the smarts, skills and courage to become a good player for us long term.
  8. He did play a couple of senior games earlier in the season LH, but your point is still valid - since the incident he hasn't been the same player, nor has he been held in the same regard by the coaching staff. Prior to punching Mills he was in good form and he's not really gotten close to reaching it again, apart from the 4 goals he kicked against Norf.
  9. You can always tell something about a supporter when they complete the 'ladder predictor'. Some are realistic, others can't help but go with the 'horror scenario' of us missing out, even if we reach 13 wins. If we win this week then we're almost a lock to make it. Winning two is ideal, but 13 wins and super percentage should be more than enough.
  10. It's a double edged sword, Doc. On one hand, you can understand supporters having high expectations. We expect them to have it, so I guess we should have them as well. However, it's not long ago that we would enjoy any win that we could get our hands on as they were so few and far between. Why supporters are so quick to forget that, and therefore not enjoy a 16 goal flogging like they should, is baffling to say the least. I know it was against poor opposition, but 16 goals is 16 goals. I'd enjoy every minute of it.
  11. I don't think I've disagreed with a post more than I have with this one. Well done.
  12. Who would have thought, just a few years ago, that we would find something to complain about when we win by 96 points.
  13. You don't want reigning premiers??
  14. Gaff just played his last game in yellow and blue. He'll be in red and blue come 2019, running around with a bunch of reigning premiers.
  15. I also thought Vanders had a good, solid return. He didn't do anything special but you can see that, with more game time, he could be very, very handy with finals around the corner. You could almost expect him to keep his spot when Melksham returns, as I feel like he brings a little more to the table than someone like JKH. Having said that, it goes to show that we had good depth and there will be some fierce competition for spots in the next three weeks.
  16. Outside of the Joel Smith injury, this was the perfect win IMO. Just look at the maturity of the players in the last term and the way in which they continued to hunt the opposition with crunching tackles and hard running. It was fantastic to watch and further proof of how far this side had come. I know many will talk about the Gold Coast injuries, and you can't argue they fielded a very poor side today, but we are still missing Lever, Viney, Hibberd and Melksham, four very important players for us and it shows how good our depth is that, even with those guys out, we can still smash a side by 16 goals. So much to like about our performance as a whole, and to come out and put the Suns to the sword in the first term was very satisfying to watch. You could name 15 players who had a major impact, and everyone played their role. Enjoy it all, as this Melbourne side has the ability to go somewhere special this year. The last 3 games, to me, are all extremely winnable and I see no reason why we can't finish in the Top 4 at the end of Round 23. Demons!
  17. 6 goals is disappointing? We are shooting for finals here - 4 points is the objective, no matter if we win by 10 points or 10 goals. Why winning by 6 goals is disappointing is beyond me. Losing will be disappointing. Winning by any margin at the pointy end of the season is always a good thing.
  18. Couldn't be more confident if I tried. Dees by 10 goals!
  19. And I see no reason why we can't be doing that. The Eagles in Perth will be tough, but I think we can match them on the day.
  20. Super round of footy so far. If anything, this round should be proof positive that we should fear no team in the competition. Swans might have fallen over the line tonight, but I think the win paper's over their cracks.
  21. Why waste my time speculating? I have no idea, and neither do you.
