And these comments were made at the bottom of this unrelated story........ League delays Aker verdict "Demetriou made the comments at the launch of a celebration of 150 years of Australian football, which will take place throughout the 2008 season. Outgoing Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy was named as the AFL's ambassador for the 150-year celebrations, with Demetriou saying he will fill thet role regardless of whether he gains a new coaching job before next season." Obviously I am not sure how much extra work the role would be, but if this is believed it does seem to sound perfectly doable (hopefully)!!!

Apropos....... Sheedy named AFL ambassador

I think we have lost a few 150th's along the way as well !!! Anyway congratulations to Jeff on what is a magnificent achievement. His contribution to our team over so many years is greatly appreciated and I hope that he can celebrate with some style....... But I am not holding my breath :D !!!
-
So do you think that the club has that clock counting down somewhere (and I am having a James Bond in Goldfinger moment)? Because the end would have to be seriously nigh !!!
-
Well, that would be the most logical thing to do if he is not fit...... So I guess we will just have to wait and see if that actually happens !!!
-
Well said C84....... It is unfortunate that the opportunity this club now has to put its youngsters on that learning curve, which you would think would only benefit the club in the long run, is being rapidly lost amid some truly weird and bizarre selections, especially over the last couple of weeks. And while I realise that quite a few kids have debuted in the last couple of years, which is great and has been encouraging, there still doesn't seem to be any kind of expansion on top of that. And if there was ever a time to put the kids out there with no worries of the end consequences (in terms of results not player development, because that factor really doesn't seem to be being taken into account right now), then you would think that the last few weeks of this particular season would be it !!!

I agree Clint (although Yze can be used there) and he has proved to be a pretty good one at that....... But it would be nice if he was played there a little more often to actually use the skills he has, instead of being pushed into the midfield. Where he is unfortunately not nearly as influential as we would like to think or hope he is.

I am with Rhino on this, you only trade to get someone who will give you a substantial improvement...... However the unfortunate flip side of this is to get something good we are going to have to give up something good, because that is the way it works. The way I see it you trade to fill a hole or to cover a void that you have, not to simply to get rid of a player. If you can't get someone better or someone that you need then trading can become a fairly useless prospect as you can tend to just be moving pieces around and swap one set of problems for another. As for whether we trade Davey (or Bruce or Green or Johnstone or Bell or whoever) I would have thought that it would depend nearly entirely on who or what we would be able to get in return, because we re the club, are already well aware of what his value to the team is, both the pro and the con.

Sheedy or Ratten...... Although Viney may not be the worst choice in the world.
-
And would be a genuinely and unfortunately terrifying prospect for our future......... That article is the most succinct and logical appraisal that we can have in regards to our clubs current state. So thanks for posting it here Bub :D !!!

Well at least someone seems to have the same questions and ponderings that we have...... Its just a shame that it is the opposition coach and not ours  !!!

Demons' eyes on spirited Laidley Chloe Saltau | August 4, 2007 MELBOURNE chief executive Steve Harris has admitted there is a "spirit issue" at the Demons, and yesterday flagged the club's interest in Dean Laidley should he choose to explore coaching options anywhere other than the Kangaroos at the end of the season......
-
You need to be careful with those this year :D !!!
-
It didn't? I could have sworn....... !!!
-
So definite after only a couple of senior games....... I like to think that it is just way too soon to tell with any kind of absolution, but we remain hopeful and only time will really tell.
-
Adelaide - Ben Rutten or Scott Thompson Brisbane - Jonathan Brown Carlton - Mark Murphey Collingwood - Scott Pendlebury Essendon - Matthew Lloyd (and that choice really hurts!!!) Fremantle - Matthew Pavlich Geelong - Jimmy Bartel Hawthorn - Robert Campbell or Sam Mitchell Kangaroos - Daniel Wells Port Adelaide - Cornes (either one would probably do) Richmond - Nathan Brown (when fit) or Brett Deledio St. Kilda - Matt Maguire (or Nick Dal Santo or Justin K....) Sydney - Ryan O'Keefe or Brett Kirk West Coast - Chris Judd or Darren Glass Western Bulldogs - Brad Johnson And you can tell by that, that I have trouble making definitive decisions !!!
-
Well, all that aside..... Congrats and good luck to the young man :D !!!
-
Connolly to talk with Demons
-
Hopefully you are proved correct Haydo....... Sheedy confirms Dees talks
-
Seriously, this has run its course now, right?!!!

Its kind of like going into New Year...... You get a chance to put everything bad aside, set new goals and start again (even if that is not quite the complete reality) with a clean slate. And this is pretty much where we find ourselves at this point in time. Its our 150th year, a massive event, and with a new coach and philosophy, new facilities on the horizon (finally), possibly some new players into the fold, and hopefully a whole new attitude within the team and club, it could well be the fresh start we all so desperately need, especially after this season. Besides we always live in hope :D !!!

Congratulations to Kouta on a great career and I wish him all the best for his future :D !!!

Cheers Madness ........ And despite the enormous effort that Nathan has put in throughout this year which should never be underestimated, Selwood is still my bet for the final award. And for some to take pot shots at his competitors is staggering, and it doesn't make them any less worthy of the awards that they will more than likely get. All players, even those in the better sides, have to do something that makes them standout to get nominated, let alone be the favourite and subsequently win. And I do understand it is easier to be a standout in a better side but they still have to play some bloody good footy. Anyway congratulations to Nathan on this nomination and such a wonderful year for which we are all extremely grateful for :D !!!
-
Hopefully I will get to congratulate Col next week (if fit), when he actually gets to play his 50th game :D !!!
-
Well said bub I agree with you........ It was probably not the easiest decision to make, especially given the pressure surrounding him, and his choice of club, rather than the decision whether to coach. The automatic assumption that existed would have been hard to go against, given he would have definitely had a gig of his choice next year. Hopefully he will be the better equipped for the position in the future, if he decides to go that route when he is ready. Apropos...... Voss vetoes coaching role
