Not sure if this is true, but legend has it that when Melbourne won their first premiership in 1900, Fitzroy were such raging hot favourites that they had already had a carriage painted in club colours with "Fitzroy - Premiers 1900" written on it!
-
I know. I was agreeing with you. I like Neale Daniher and think he's been good for the club but I don't want him to coach Melbourne next year because I don't think we are getting closer to a flag with him at the helm.
-
I thought he was playing as a genuine winger but pushing back to take kick-ins (as TJ did until recently).
-
Getting a new coach is always a risk. Even a coach with a pedigree (ie. Dennis Pagan) is no guarantee of success or improvement. The only question that needs to be asked is "Can Neale Daniher take Melbourne to a premiership?" If the answer is no, we need to find the best available coach. It's not possible to wait for someone better because you won't know that until probably 2-3 years down the track. Unless they win the flag in their first year :D

Robbo to kick 23 straight and start a late season campaign to become the first demon to kick 100 in a year?

Where are the people that stick up for Bruces kicking?
Kit Walker replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting that they are specifically working on Frawley's kicking. Frawley article Wonder if they'll do that with Bruce too and a few others who seem to be getting worse as they get older. It is very noticeable the decline in his kicking particularly this year. -
Would love to see that. Grew up watching Robbie play sensational football in a shocking team when we still wore royal blue..

Reaction of Carlton players, supporters, coaching staff and John Elliot when they lost the 2000 qualifying final to Melbourne. B)

Good turnout from the dees supporters...

Further explanation of his hatred of Melbourne... Brian Taylor Age Article -
I'd back them but the odds make it pointless.

Couldn't agree more. The only thing I'd say in addition is that they need to pick one of those two roles and stick with it. He's not a Cameron Bruce type player that can adapt mid-stream to different roles.
-
That's right. For most of the season they have been without their two best key defenders - Hudghton and Maguire. I don't think they've had a first choice midfield all year either. On top of that they have this ridiculous public spat between their current president and immediate ex-coach. Can't help matters.

Skipper rejoins chorus to re-sign Daniher
Kit Walker replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
You seem to have missed the words "pretty much" in my post. Of course the board took the final decision but it was under intense pressure from fans and sponsors. The point was however, that the players had very little influence in the final decision. -
Hawkins killed us. 4 goals in the second quarter. They must have a selective breeding policy down there with all their top quality F/S selections...
-
Don't see your logic. Melbourne beat St Kilda in the first final last year and are now two games and percentage below them. How does your argument work?

Skipper rejoins chorus to re-sign Daniher
Kit Walker replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
Fans and to a much greater extent, sponsors, pretty much decided Roos would be coach of Sydney. I agree with the second part of your post. Have no problem at all with Melbourne's professionalism off the field this year. -
Skipper rejoins chorus to re-sign Daniher
Kit Walker replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
Players should not pick their coach. Ever. Neale coached well on the weekend but whether he get re-signed should be based on his/Melbourne's performance over the last year/3 years/10 years and whether the board believe he can take Melbourne to a premiership. I don't. -
Agreed. He may only play 3 or 4 games a year but he was fantastic on Monday.

Michael Christian is the worst commentator in football. Even worse than Graeme Cornes.

2006 - 68 goals 2005 - 39 goals (think he was carrying an injury most of that year) 2004 - 69 goals 2003 - 65 goals What are you talking about?
-
Melbourne have a leadership vacuum and you want the best leader at the club to retire? Hasn't it been abundantly obvious this year that we lift when he's on the park? If we can get 2-3 more years out of him that would be fantastic, but one more at the very least for some stability in the changeover of captaincy. Not to mention what he adds to the side.
-
What's happened to Bartram? He was supposed to be available by round 12-13. If he's still 4-6 now he won't play this year.
-
Getting a little bit narky isn't it... I like it when when a team leader gives it to another senior player for dropping below the standard expected. Would have been different it he had a go at Petterd or Frawley but it wasn't. Good to see he put his hand up for the undisciplined 50 as well. Shows he can take responsibility as well as demand it.

Who is Melbournes Most Improved Player of 2007 ?
Kit Walker replied to Deano74's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bell - Has now become a quality versatile backman Godfrey - Has stopped pretending he is TJ and now just stops others getting the footy (plus the right foot goal!) Paul Johnson - Can mark overhead, kick and get hit outs
